2k9 control system

Question for the guys who've played the NBA 2k series before for XBOX360 and PS3.

How does the control system on the gamepad differ from NBA Live? For Live, the right analog stick controlled crossovers and spins (pretty intuitively too) and also free throw shooting.

Are there different buttons for dunk, layup, and shoot?

Same for rebound, tip dunk, tip out?

Any insight would be much appreciated. Totally excited about this game.

Right analog is for shooting/dunks/layups
you can also press X for that on the 360 controller

rebounding is all done with the Y button

Well yeah, there's the Isomotion which works with the left thumbstick and eventually the turbo button.
If you move your stick fast alternately to the left and to the right he will do like 10 crossovers.

Either way, since it's on PC, I'm guessing it'll be possible to remap the buttons. That right analog stick thingy sounds like it'd annoy the hell out of me pretty fast...

Nah the shot-stick's awesome.

If you're used to one button to shoot, you really have to get into it, but later on you won't want to change it back anymore.

It's pretty sweet cause the shot depends on how you push your stick. if you push it away from the basket it will be like a running shot, if you push it left to the basket he actually should do a left handed layup/dunk.
This year we'll be able to do more mid-air adjustments, so I think it will be even better.
And I heard in an interview we're finally able to pass out of every shot.

That's ultra slick. When you said you shoot with the right analog stick, I thought you meant that you pull back and push forward just like a FT in Live.

I was afraid that the 2k series was old-school (only had a pass/switch and shoot/rebound) button. I'm glad they developed new control mechanisms like Live with their Freestyle controls.

Freestyle on the right stick is stupid anyway. It doesn't make any sense unless you map shooting to the top buttons or triggers.

Or have three hands.

I can't say I have ever heard any complaint about Freestyle like yours. I can't say that I, nor anyone I know has ever had an issue doing dribble moves (or in NG live 08 / NG MM 08 post moves) with the right stick and not be able to hit the dunk or shoot button after.

I only played nba 2k8 demo sofar, as I'm new to ps3
how do you dunk? I can't seem to make dunks, can i decided whether it's a layup or dunk or is it computer controlled?
Same with release, do I have to push the stick and release it, so that the release is manually controlled , or is the release computer ie ps3, dependent?

you gotta hold the aggressive modifier aka turbo to dunk, that is how you differentiate between dunk/layup for the most part.

release is user controlled, you just have to let go of the stick to release

2k8 had different controller setups, you could use the right stick for isomotion aswell. But once you get used to the shot-stick, there's no way going back. True story. (L)

I also hate the button binds that NBA Live used. They'd link shoot and take charge together so that I can't bind another button. For me, having played Live before 04, it was much more intuitive to have Shoot/Rebound mapped to the same button. Why can't they just allow us to make the binds like in almost all PC games? Of course that would make Live PC superior to Xbox360 and PS3 live. And we can't have that of course.

I do not want to shoot after the move, I want to shoot out of the move.

Yeah, like the little stutter half-crossover dribble into jump shot motion. A thing of beauty if pulled off correctly - both in real life and in video games.
