Official 2k9 Impressions thread

Talk about NBA 2K9 here, as well as all previous games in the NBA 2K series.

Postby [Q] on Mon Oct 13, 2008 10:20 am

yeah they pretty much stated everything already. it's a nice screen to have to diagnose your team's problems during the season but doesn't really thrill me too much. however, i do look at the efficiency stat to "scout" players I'd like to trade for.

Feh, the nba.com efficiency stat is stupid. Especially if you're still allowed to see overall rating.

And I doubt the game follows the four factors, so none of it probably matters anyway.

Take Two (yeah, yeah):

Second impressions are more favourable. This game is awesome. I hate the letter grading system, the nba.com presentation, the cut scenes still show even though I turned them all off. The gameplay, though, once you get used to the motions and controls, are freaking amazing.

Orlando's for me. I'm going to trade anyone who's name isn't Dwight Howard.

My current association is with the Celtics

Traded Cassell back to the Clips for DeAndre Jordan

Got rid of perkins for some shmuck + a 2nd round pick. Next Day got rid of that shmuck for some benchwarming SG from Detroit + a 2nd round pick.

Then got rid of Lean Powe for benchwarmer Korver + a 2nd round pick.

So I have 4 2nd round picks this coming draft with 0 roster space....yay? Haven't played since that last trade so I'll look to get rid of some of those.

When I get it on PC I was considering recreating this team and starting over from the beginning of the season but instead I think I'll fantasy draft it up with the rockets like I did with 2k8 last month.

Oh, and I love the nba.com setup and how the association gives you information.
Opinions are my own.

Just a question I don't have the game yet. I'm waiting for PC version. I want to know if its possible to save stats like NBA LIVE did.

Thats a boxscore of a online game
http://community.2ksports.com/community ... 0&g=370070

How can they save the stats?
Could it be possible to save offline or only online?

what do you mean?

In my association I can go to any game that has been played by me or by the CPU vs CPU and look at the box score but I dont think we'll be able to export those stats to a txt file like Live did

because it was an online league game, you can't do that with the offline association mode and remember that "online" is a dirty word when it comes to the PC version, except to activate the game.

just got the PS2 version... played in this afternoon.

It was pretty much like 2K7 and 2K8, just with updated rosters. But obviously, this is the better basketball sim game. I got very realistic results from my first matchup (LAL vs CHI). Kobe torched the bulls with 42 pts, 5 rebs, 4 asts. Bynum had 10 points and 13 rebounds--which I LIKED! Derrick Rose and Luol Deng had 21 apiece.

What is a buzzkill for me is that I still cannot edit player jersey numbers. (N)

I did notice a few new sliders. Am gonna tweak them more tomorrow! Yay!

Oh, and why are the "Brand New Heavies" in the 2K beats?? Apparently 'Jump n Move' isn't exclusive to NBA Live :-o

Overall, i give it a 9 out of 10.

If we could only edit those darn jersey numbers...

got the game since friday 17th. god damn that was a tough weekend...

just to keep it simple:
few weeks ago was it the news of the year that t2 gonna relase next gen baller stuff, fell almost from the chair. ordered the game immediately.
was very disappointed about the ea-going, got almost every f** release since 96.

this game is beyond all expectations, grafx, animations, presentation, you name it.

i´m not through everything right now, what i have recognized is some sound prob, (spontaneous buzzing and slomo sound during slomo  ), and some gamepad probs (thrustmaster dual analog 3).

grafx cannot be played at all maxed out (2GB, 4800 x2, 7900 gtx) but is still amazing.

A big Hug to Take 2!

hope they keep on caressing us with game and roster patches. I also hope community gets the modding going to make this a legend game!

8-)

Hey Jao, maybe we should email or send Take 2 (2k Sports) the link to this thread, that way the ppl who are involved with the PC side of 2K Sports will know our impressions and feelings and that way (if there's a lot of positive impressions) they will continue producing NBA 2K for PC users for years to come?

Played Live series till 2008, after few games with live 2008 i stopped!
Was sick and tired of EA f***** Sports and their ugly games for years, finally something's changed and we can play real bball on the pc.

NBA 2K9 PC is awesome, smooth, realistic bball game, was surprised when i was playing my first game, tons of details around flawless gameplay if you comparing with EA's deep s*** ball game.

Graphic looks fantastic on my new gtx 280 and it's realy beautiful.
Tbh this game worth more than 20$ bucks, much more that that.

Just wanted to say THANK YOU 2K for this awesome game !

Now EA sux even more !
Kobe ftw

Here are some of my first impressions of 2K9 for PC.

First thing I noticed is that the control is alot more responsive. I am not sure if this has anything to do with my 360 being hooked up to an hdtv or not, but the menu and in-game control has a better feel to it, imo.

There were no slowdowns during the first freethrow. It is running at a near constant 60 fps with vsync on at 1680x1050 with everything on high or ultra high except the crowd, which I am not too worried about. The only slowdown I experienced was during the substitution overlay during a dead ball.

I had to remap the controls because the triggers were reversed. For instance, on the 360, the right trigger would be equivalent to R2 on my rumblepad, but it was mapped to R1, so I had to switch it. The same goes for the left triggers. Also, the game is not recognizing the thumbstick buttons so I can't view a player's card unless I press "5" on my keyboard. There are buttons for spin and crossover, but the crossover button is the quick pick and roll button. While it still calls for a screen, my player does a crossover. I am going to try and unmap that button if possible, and see if it can still be used to call for a screen without performing a crossover. I also can't find the screen to change the right thumbstick defense to absolute, instead of screen relative.

The icons above the players are confusing because I am used to the xbox360 gamepad icons. On pc they show up as B1, B2, etc. I know most of the players so it isn't that big of a deal.

Gameplay is the same as the 360 version, if not better with the feeling of more responsive controls.

Graphics are better in a way. There is no blurry court, it looks great. I am not sure if there is supposed to be players on the bench during instant replay, because there were nothing but empty seats when I checked a replay. I may not have that on maximum, though. I'm also not sure if the following is an issue with the 360 version or my hdtv, but the shiny jerseys look great on the PC. On the 360, they had a banding effect or what would look like a posterizing effect if you are familiar with that filter in photoshop.

Completely agree. EA lost a lifetime customer. I've been with the Live series since NBA Showdown '94. They've done NOTHING since then. And in the last few years, they started to seriously show how little they cared about PC users. I almost want to write a thank you note to Take Two and also a check for what I think the game is worth ($60).

Why would the display you hook it up to have any effect on the performance?

I still feel that 2k9 is one of the most unresponsive sports games ever made. The sheer number of situations that are possible where the shoot button has absolutely no effect is baffling to me.

I think you have to spend more time with it and master the controls. Then I guarantee you will be impressed by the actual control you actually have over shooting and or shot manipulation.

With that said 2k9 is not for everyone. Some may like the arcade like play of the Lives series, but I sure know 2K9 is for me. NBA 2k9 is a complex game (control wise). Your not going to pick it up and master it within 10 minutes like you can with Live (shooting wise). There's much more to 2K9, you actually have to put time in and learn. It took me 5 days to actually appreciate it and master the controls. Everytime I play I learn something new. Everyone should give it a shot, its more than worth it
