I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 (laptop) with these specs:

Intel Core 2 Duo 1.73 GHz
2 GB ram
ATI Mobility Radeon X1400

I have the game and it works, but I have to set everything pretty low, with resolution to the lowest possible setting. My question is, aside from getting a desktop, is there anything I can do to make the game run with better graphics? I've heard about overclocking your processor....would that help at all, or should I stay away from doing that?

Please, no jokes about having a laptop. I used to have a desktop, but now I'm on the road all the time and I have to have a laptop. And from my understanding, you can't upgrade the video card in a laptop. Any ideas?

Thanks!

That will not help. The videocard is the main concern for "better graphics".

Okay, I got a pretty poor response from some random pseudo-geek on the previous page (actually I don't even know if it was directed at me but whatever,) so I'm gonna ask again.

I seek a reply from someone literate, preferably one of the regulars here at the NLSC (Jon, Ben, Pat, el_badman, etc.) My question is, how well can a Radeon HD 2600 Pro (256MB DDR3) handle the game?

I suppose my processor and other components don't really matter as much but keep in mind it's an 11-month-old system and it's a Mac so I can't upgrade anything other than memory.

I looks like you should be fine with your system Joe. Your video card is unfortunately not beefed up enough to handle all the highest settings, but that's the only real bottleneck in your system (only 256MB of VRAM, but at least it's DDR3).
I don't know which resolution you usually play at, but you should be able to max some of the settings (maybe player details, environment, overall textures), but others might be slowing down the whole thing too much (like MSAA). You should be fine overall.

Same as el badman. Your videocard is the only thing of concern.

Thanks for the quick response. I usually play at 1680x1050 (native resolution) but I wouldn't mind playing at lower resolution and higher settings.

That's a pretty high resolution. If you can keep it that way, that's definitely the priority, the in-game settings are secondary compared to the resolution. But yes, with this card, I doubt you'll be able to maximize that many settings. It should still look quite good at 1680x1050, that's the one I use too.

I have an HD 3850 with 256mb ddr3 and was playing on 1680x1050 with players at high and crowd at medium. It ran flawlessly, but now I have it at 1280x720 with everything maxed and no AA, but I did turn on 8x AF to improve the court quality. The framerate is pretty steady at 45-50 while it goes down to 30-35 at wide angles. No problems playing it, though.

I think you will be able to run it on medium settings with possibly somethings lowered and others higher, depending on your preference. I'm not sure how you are going to run the game on a Mac, or is it the kind that can run Windows natively and not through an emulator?

Yeah, I have a Windows partition. I just restart and boot XP, natively of course, thanks to the Intel processor.

The HD 3850 isn't all that different from the HD 2600 Pro (both support DirectX 10.1 and Shader 4.0,) just higher bus width (256 vs 128 bit.)

Not sure how that translates into performance but still, I think if you were able to run it at 1680x1050 with high settings, I will too. I was able to run Assassin's Creed (on XP, not Vista) with everything on high at a good 40 fps.

hi, im buying a new system since my old system dont work. im deciding between 3 new systems.
i wanted to know if these systems would run NBA 2K9?

1.
AMD Turion 64 X2 RM-70
2.0 GHZ
NVIDIA GeForce 8200M with up to 1407MB
160GB hard drive

would NBA 2k9 on that system work great, good, ok or not at all?

or how about this system

2.
AMD Sempron(TM) Processor for Notebook PCs SI-40 (2.0GHz)
NVIDIA GeForce 8200M G
– 120GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive

would NBA 2K9 on that system work great, good, ok or not at all?

3.
AMD Athlon™ X2 Dual-Core Processor QL-62 2.0GHz
nVidia GeForce 8200M
160GB (5400 RPM)

would NBA 2K9 on that system work great, good, ok or not at all?

Your GPU(video card) doesn't support SM 3.0.
You need at least an Nvidia 6600GT or an ATI x1300 to get the game work.
