Pdub, I often use the triple threat to fake a drive .. the defenders bite on it quite often (too often ...) and take a step back .. then you have enough room to get off your shot.
Layups which are hard to block can be performed by pulling the stick away from the basket ... your player will perform a tear drop then quite often which is hard to block or he will move with his back to the defender drawing the foul ...

Abuse the inside. If the CPU AI doesn't adjust by double teaming, it's not your fault, take the advantage, screw the open shot.
It's hard to abuse the inside though when the great Adonal Foyle is your post scorer.

True, and so I do. I couldn't get to sleep after laying in bed for an hour before work, so I got up and played 2 games. I was alot more patient when it came to isomotion and I got alot of easy buckets and scored 67 points in the first half. 42 in the second quarter. I was up 70-30 at one point against the 76ers, who had team ratings in the very low 50's, so I can see why I ran them so easily. I think it was easier for me because I wasn't trying to force myself to make jumpshots, I just took them at any opportunity and they were going in. 5-8 from downtown.
Also, when the game is loading and it shows the controls, it showed me that by holding the aggressive modifier and using the shot stick inside either tries a dunk or a drop step layup, and that is why I was getting all those slow and weak layups blocked, I was using the aggressive modifier. By not using the aggressive modifier on layups with smaller players, they performed "better" animations for scoring, but using the aggressive modifier with big men looks like a good idea. I lost my damn manual somewhere.
hova-, thanks for the tip. The triple threat fake does give me some space, but it also moves my player forward if I try to shoot while still in the animation.
I did this alleyoop from Sam Cassell to Al Thornton. Thorton was using the windmill animation. Before the ball got to him, it was tipped by a defender inbetween my two players, but he still caught it and dunked it.

I started my first Association today with the Kings. But I lost by 9 against the Hornets in my season opener ... Peja had 28 against his former team of better times.
Kevin Martin scored 34, he is really sick from the charity stripe .. 12-12.
A very nice play to get your SG open is the PG SG pick&roll, got me open quite often with K-Mart.
I really love the "difficult" layup animations when you push the stick away from the basket ... had some decent fastbreaks that ended up in and1 plays.
But I really need better rebounders, any recommendations for players ?
Wed Jan 02, 2008 4:23 am
David Lee...
Ive found Spencer Hawes to been a pretty good rebounder as well, since you are already the kings.
Wed Jan 02, 2008 6:43 am
Hmm David Lee would be nice, Hawes aint too bad but he has nothing else to offer imo.
Well I just got blown out completely on the road by the Spurs .. 70-130 loss what else shall I say .. Bibby and Artest were in foul trouble early and I couldnt hit shit with any other player. Bowen scored like 12 of his 15 points in the 1st quarter and in a row.
It just seems like I cant get any defensive stops without fouling, maybe I will lower the sliders a bit ...
edit: Again blown out, again with 60 points, the Mavs just kicked my ass. Actually I cant find a way to rebound effectively .. I was outrebounded 22-46 .... and they just run those backdoor cuts all the time kinda makes me angry ..... arghhh

and they just run those backdoor cuts all the time kinda makes me angry ..... arghhh
I think lowering fancy passes, offensive awareness, and attack the basket sliders may help with the backdoor cuts, and it makes it a bit easier. It was a bit too easy for me so I turned attack the basket back up and it got more challenging but they don't use the backdoor cuts constantly. I don't know what to say about the rebounding, since I have Kaman, Brand and Maggette grabbing between 7-9 boards each.

The day before yesterday I bought a Xbox 360 and NBA 2K8. Now I am searching for some realistic sliders for 12 minutes quarter on superstar/hall of fame. Any one can give me some help? Browsed this topic already and could not find anything about sliders.

You have to register but that aint a problem, many slider discussions here !
After another loss to the Cavs I decided to get David Lee :
Shareef and Beno Udrih for Malik Rose and David Lee.
I think I give up an old player who had a mentor role but nothing left in the tank and a nice shooting point guard whose release was simply annoying to me. Malik has a bad contract but Sheef had one either.
So I hope that can shake things up a bit. I am no facing the Twolves which should be a win....

David Lee sounds like a good pickup. That guy still putting up double-double like numbers off the bench?
I was offered Krstic for Brevin Knight. Needless to say, I accepted the trade because Aaron Williams and Paul Davis are my only backup centers. I had 4 pg's, so I can increase the minutes for the other reserves. I will miss Knight's defense, he was averaging just under 1 steal pg off the bench in limited minutes.
I lost to Boston, but it was very fun. They traded Paul Pierce away, the idiots. My rebounding trio wasn't very good against KG, he was all over the offensive boards.
thobra88, from my experience with sliders, you should really learn what they do so you can fit them to your playing style. Maybe grab someone's sliders and then tweak from game to game. I like to reach alot so I have the reach in fouls down, so I can get away with a few reaches. Anything higher then 50 and I get the ticky-tac calls.
I only wish that the cpu would play a quicker offense without me having to turn up all the shooting tendencies, becuase when they are high, guys who shouldn't be taking outside shots will take them whenever they are open, which makes it even easier, since I can back off them and they will toss a brick. I'm afraid turning it down will cause the cpu to shoot less ouside shots, though.
Thu Jan 03, 2008 12:46 am
Okay, thank you guys.
Pdub, that is what I do anyway. But I am totally new to this game, so I need some sliders to begin with.
Besides, I just finished my first game on hall of fame level, Magic 113 @ Cavaliers 110. I played the Magic.
Howard scored 47 and grabbed 22 boards. Haha, I love this game.

The Knicks are not supposed to be that good, even in videogames.
*slaps Jeffx back into reality*
Thu Jan 03, 2008 9:24 pm
Okay I ended my Kings Association after being at 0-8 .... I just chose the wrong difficulty grade I think ... or maybe I still need to play with the sliders but definitely I need a better team than the Kings ..... I m just not good enough to lead a weak team into playoffs.
Well I have to do work for school anyway, I have to write a paper about the history and development of the NBA

This work is pretty important for graduating though.
But maybe some of you could name a few teams better than the Kings ? (maybe stacked teams, but not with too many stars)
Fri Jan 04, 2008 12:11 am
Try the Magic. They got Dwight Howard and Rashard Lewis, and some pretty good role players too. I started with them, and im 12-1 i think
Sat Jan 05, 2008 9:24 pm
Hm I m more like a Western Conference guy, although its more difficult.
I started with the Knicks yesterday though, just for fun, I told Marbury hes a benchwarmer and wont see minutes unless someone is injured but I had to learn that I have hardly any good players left.
Curry, Z-Bo and Crawford can be hot offensively and I told Jamal to be my Star, but I have no defense at all.
And when my reserves enter the court I could shit myself literally, Jerome James, Malik Rose, Jared Jeffries, oh my god, what a talentless bunch of suckers.
Nate Robinson aint the perfect PG either and his backup was Mardy Collins ..... oO
I still dunno if I should accept this challenge and rebuild this club or just take another team.
Sat Jan 05, 2008 9:55 pm
Where's Balkman? David Lee?
Sun Jan 06, 2008 12:14 am
I was just naming the weak reserves to hype it a bit
Lee and Balkman are okay but nothing more, if it was possible to change the lineup after every possesion they would be cool:
Z-Bo, Q-Rich on offense <-> Lee, Balkman on defense ..
But I have to say the Knicks just suck hard, so Ima try to find another team.
Its just like I never find a team Im satisfied with
Sun Jan 06, 2008 1:42 am
That's the challenge. Making a crapass team a winner.

Yeah, this team absolutely sucks on defense. I just got torched by the Mavs, 104-88. Aside from Balkman & Jeffries, I have no defenders - the CPU just back doors my guys to death. I have to hope for the opponent to go on a cold streak.
But the bright side is the Knicks can score with Curry(a beast inside), Q-Rich, Crawford & Marbury. What I did was start Lee over Randolph. That gives me offense off the bench. Morris can get you points inside, so he & Zach make a good combo. Jones & Chandler can slash to the hoop and throw it down if given a chance. Nate Robinson? Useless! Gets torched constantly and don't bother driving to the basket - his sh!t gets blocked every time. All he's good for is hitting open 3's. I'm dumping him soon as his contract runs out.
Rotation(starters): Marbury, Crawford, Richardson, Lee, Curry
(bench): Robinson, Jones, Chandler, Randolph, Morris, Balkman, Jeffries
(reserves): Collins, Rose, James

Hm yeah, but it seems too difficult to me to handle those guys and I as I am a Marbury hater its getting even harder.
Im playing with the Bulls right now a bit, just had an amazing game against my brother controlling the Rockets:
163-166 in Triple OT:
I had the chance to decide the game after the 4th and after the 1st OT but I couldnt make the last shot. It was tough, Hinrich and Gordon fouled out in 2nd OT and I was outrebounded by Dikembe and Yao. My 3pt shooting kept me in the game although I never really led before the end of the 4th quarter.
Battier and T-Mac had 35 points each and Yao had 28/18/9 and 3 blocks.
For me Deng scored 29, had 6 boards, 5 assists and 6 steals and Hinrich had 25 points, 8 assists on 6-10 from 3pt.
Just a nice experience I wanted to share

I just lost the championship to the damn Celtics, i was the Nuggets they beat me 4-3 on hall of fame. Man it was a grueling first season (58 games played them all on 7 min quarters). I kept Denver pretty much true to life with the same players altho i lost Kleiza in the first round of the playoffs with a shoulder ACL hes out for 38 weeks!!! Garnett got the reg season MVP and the Finals MVP also he got the Defensive player so he really cleaned up the awards and got the Celtics a ring. Although i lost the Association is very fun it keeps this game alive. I now look to the off season where i need to sort out the salary cap so i can re-sign Smith and Kleiza.

Hey,
I just bought a PS3 and nba 2k8. But since all the rosters on Operation Sports are NTSC rosters I just wanted to know if someone got a roster update for the pal version and perhaps could send me the files.
My e-mail adress:
maximilian_rosenkranz@yahoo.de
Thanks in advantage for any help.

My girlfriend bought me 2k8 for Christmas hehe.
An awesome game to say the least. I'm neither a Live or 2k fan, however found 2k8 to be a lot smoother and a lot more realistic than Live this time around.
A few things I love about the game include:
-Players dive to save balls from going out of court. If they run into the bench, the players on the bench pick him up, or if it's a coach, he will stop the player from falling.
-If you give a PG, SG or SF an open shot (ie your doubling up on another player) they hit it every time just like in the NBA. I hated in older versions (especially in Live) where it seemed as though your shot was determined before you even shot it regardless of weather you were shooting from the corner, top of the key or had 3 players on you.
-I love how every player has their own shot style, it gives the game such a unique feel.
-It's cool when a point guard brings the ball down the court and will wipe their shoes or point to a position ont he floor. Also, when you get a guy like Nash on the break and he will just turn the jets on big time and beat the opposition down the floor for a layup/assist, very life-like.
-I like how every team in the game plays exactly how they do in real life; ie. Phoenix run and gun in the game where as a team like Detroit play at a slowe tempo.
-The top 3 plays thing at the end of the game is very neat also, same with the shot chart.
