Talk about NBA 2K9 here, as well as all previous games in the NBA 2K series.

NBA Rulebook wrote:Section XVI-Five-Second Back-to-the-Basket Violation
An offensive player in his frontcourt below the free throw line extended shall not be permitted to dribble with his back or side to the basket for more than five seconds.
The count ends when (1) the player picks up the ball, (2) dribbles above the free throw line extended or (3) a defensive player deflects the ball away.
PENALTY: Loss of ball. The ball is awarded to the opposing team out-of-bounds on the nearest sideline at the free throw line extended.

Nobody is really dumb enough or slow and methodical enough to do it in the NBA, but it exists.

If I'm not mistaken, that rule was implemented because of Charles Barkley.

Should I trade in my 2k7 for credit on 2k8? I was playing it in a store and it seems really good. Have many of the issues from 2k7 been fixed/improved?

Do it up man.
Trade it in.
You won't regret it.
Read the review Gamespot.com gave it.

How do you call plays? Not the quick A,B,X,Y, plays, but the ones you set in your user profile. I looked in the instructions book and i dont see anything about calling plays.

volsey wrote:Yea that IGN review wasn't their best. But I don't think it was that far off. TBH the leap from 2k6-2k7 was bigger than 2k7-2k8, and while I don't think its even possible for 2k7>2k8, I just don't think 2k8 is that drastic of an improvement. They added better footplanting, more realistic weight and momentum, new animations, player personalities, the Blacktop mode (which in my opinion is completely worthless), lock on D (which isn't as bad as the IGN review said, but still isn't good), and improved the offensive AI. All that said ill still be getting the game sometime this week.

Speaking of AI is the defensive AI as bad as the reviewer says? From the demo I can definitely tell the offensive AI has improved but didn't think the D was too bad either?

The blacktop mode is actually a bit fun because it includes a dunk contest which is difficult to perform in. It's funny to see your player fall hard when he tries to jump over a car to dunk but hits the car

And no the defensive isn't bad at all, the demo was set on Pro difficulty, these are the difficulties:

Rookie, Pro, All-Star, Superstar, and Hall Of Fame

I tore apart some teams (by 10-20 pts) on Pro which felt like fun, but when I bumped the difficulty to Hall of Fame, I got torn apart by the Computer, for ex. my score: 3pts, CPU score: 25 pts, yes it was that brutal, the CPU wouldn't let me get good shots most of the times.

If you try to make half-court passes, the ball is surely going to get picked off with a defender close to the ball.

This game feels great because the amazing part is, teams play like their actual real life selves.

When I played the Suns, the Suns would hurry to get the ball in and fast-break down the court and get open shots, they wouldn't slow down at all and Nash would initiate their offense most of the times.

Tracy McGrady will tear people up by shooting long 3's and driving inside and kicking it out to open players.

Kevin Garnett is take open jumpers if you're not guarding him, plays like a monster inside by scoring 10 straight points at times.

Trust me, this game feels real, all ya need is a nice HDTV and your game console with the game in it.

I called a couple stores. They are all sold out. One told me they don't give credit for year old sports games, another told me I could get $3 credit. 2k8 and Live 08 for the 360 are in a section right next to each other in the store. 2k8 had only two copies left, both reserved. The Live 08 section was full. For the PS3, there was about half as many 2k8's as there were Live's.

ive played about 5 games so far. Had it on rookie since this is really the first 2k game i have played. Just turned it onto pro and lost by 30 to the spurs and i was the bucks. Damn michael Redd couldnt hit anything, and i even bumped up the sliders to 70 for layup success and inside scoring and they still miss alot of easy layups.

NBA 2k8 is a great game ( XBOX 360 ).

Since NBA Live 95, I was playing NBA Live on the PC... but after last year's disgrace that was NBA Live ( bought it online from EA, it was so fucked up that I literally had to download a warez copy for a stable non-hassle playable version of what I paid for ), I've moved onto the 2K series for all basketball.

I own both NBA 2k7 and College Hoops 2k7, and now NBA 2K8. The only thing left at EA Sports worth 2 shits for me is the NCAA Football series, which still has glaring weakness in NCAA Football 2008 in terms of all of the simple polish stuff they didn't do correctly ( win the national championship, nobody even celebrates.. shit they did that and wore the actual BCS badges on the jersies in NCAA Football 2004... so you make sense of it ).

Anyway, I'm getting off on a tangent.

I would say the only thing that mildly annoys me with NBA 2K8 is that you can't edit what players wear for shoes, their height, etc like you could in the 2K7 series of basketball titles. You can adjust their accessories, ratings, tendencies, etc but it would be nice to be able to edit all of it.

Also, it sure would be nice if someone in any of the series of any sports title could add the feature to clone an existing player model into the create player feature. That way you could start with someone who has a LeBron build and features as a base and modify them to the kind of player you want. It's irritating as hell to start from nothing and use randomize, etc to get close to what you want.

Oh well, most of the talent in software development isn't in game development. Video games are good for the obvious lack of talent the majority of them have in that respect. Better to let them design games than critical software.

Anyway, im sure there'll be plenty of copies here in Australia, firstly because it's Basketball and secondly Live is more popular and it's already out...

Super bored so I bought the game yesterday. Me and my friend played 4 games (5min qtrs) against eachother. He played as the Celtics the whole time and just whooped my ass downlow with Garnett. I played as the Nets, Lakers, Magic, and Cavs.

1st Game I demolished him by 30 points Jason Kidd was so fun to play with, running the fast break in this game is so fun to do for some reason.
2nd Game went into double OT, and was so close. Kobe pretty much sucked all game but in the fourth qtr lit up and scored like 12 points straight and ended up with 34 points total. It was an unreal game and really showed how well the crowd reacts in the game, me and my friend were just loving it.
3rd Game Dwight owned, 19 pts 17 boards in 20 min of gameplay (turned fatigue off), wasn't a huge victory margin, bu I led most of the game.
4th Game was maybe even more intense than the double OT game. There actually must have been 20 lead changes in the entire game. Then I'm up by one with 20 seconds to go. Its on auto foul so he i get fouled and shoot 2. Boobie misses the first and then makes the second to bring me up by 2. Then Paul Pierce with 0.6 seconds to go nails a three, it was actually such a clutch shot and my friend actually went crazy. So I'm down by 1 and call time out, to inbound the ball at half court. I run some random inbound play and somehow get LeBron fairly open on the far side of the court. I pass it to him, he gets a good shot off and the ball starts circling around the rim, seemed like it circled for a solid minute before rimming out. I lost by 1 point.

Anyways just wanted to share, only played one game against the CPU so far, and it ended up being a pretty good game on All Star. Def worth getting if you already have 2k7.

Just got the game for 360. I'm not blown away by it but it is definitely a great game. Tried out the slam dunk contest. It took me awhile to get the hang of it(I kept holding down the right stick after the gather instead of flicking it) and I took some nasty spills trying to use some of the props.

I just beat the lakers using the suns on pro. Usually i get my butt handed to me on pro. I guess thats the difference between the Bucks, and the Suns.

One thing that sucked was i got both the "make 15 three pointers in a game" and "get 30 assists in a game" achievements, yet i only got credit for the 15 three pointers. It was probably a glitch or something since i got both achievements on the same exact play. So ill have to get 30 assists again. :(

I love how the roster and subbing rotations work now.
Now you can set each teams subbing rotation and determine approx. how many minutes they get.

Yeah, thats cool and all. But i hate when it auto subs in like five players under 6'6'' and there is a big man on the other team. Sometimes it just seems to put someone in to get their minutes instead of bringing in the best matchup.

I dont know whats up with the achievements. I had two games now where my team has 30+ assists and i still dont get the "get 30+ assists with any team" achievement. Also i got the Chris Bosh (30pts-15rbs-2blks) when i only had 1 block by him. I think i might have tipped the ball out of bounds once, but it still only showed 1 block at the end of the game.

Yeah, I wondered that too. I don't have any console, (and not enough money for a next-gen console) and I was thinking of getting a PS2 with 2k8 - considering Live sucks again for the PC.

Someone made experience with the PS2 version? Or can tell how 2k7 was on the ps2 comparing with xbox 360?

It just isn't worth buying a PS2 for 2k8. 2k8 and most other games are only good on next gen consoles. If i were you i'd save up for a next gen console or i wouldn't really bother...

I tried getting in touch with one of the developers to see if I could get an answer to that very question, but received no response back.
