Association - no preseaon games before the first season?

so, i started an "association" with the raps and i put "on" to preseason games, however, i noticed that BEFORE my first season, the schedule starts in late october, which is the beginning of the first season. i simulated the whole season and when i went to my second season, i noticed that preseaon was there (early october) - does preseaon games only begin before the START of the SECOND season?
