OLD PC => BUY NEW GPU ...GTX 260 NOT 4870 !!!

on my 2-3 year old pc (ASUS p5wd2 + Pentium D 940 Core speed 3.2 ghz + 2 GIG RAM + XP) i tried the game with a asus EAH 4870 1 gig... i had some lags the card heated like crazy ... and i didnt see all advanced options... eventually i made a bad bios flash on it...had the store replace it , added 36 euros for a Gigabyte OC GTX 260...its heaven now!

was my first time trying ATI, and surely my last....i hear the 4870 is nice...maybe if u got a new pc.... cuz this 260 is so much better on my pc

Maaaaan, the problem is your bad4games CPU. Dont blame your card blame your one core pentium.

i dont blame the card...and im running dual core...im just sharing my experience with both cards on the same pc ...

games rely much more on gpu than cpu... even GTA IV runs smooth on this 2-3 years old pc of mine with this card...

+ my 4870 heated like crazy and made much more noize...;im so glad i could change it to 260...

That's ridiculous. I've owned both Nvidia and ATI and I like both brands. The only vcard that crapped out on me was because the dinky fan on an ATI Radeon 9800 pro stopped spinning. There is no difference between the 4870 and GTX 260. They're both very close in terms of performance; each will outperform the other on certain games so which card to get depends on which games you play. Your CPU cannot fully utilize the potential of these 2 cards. One of my computers has a dual core D805 with an 8800GT NVIDIA and the 8800GT is bottlenecked by the slow (yet overclocked) CPU.

In fact, if you look at Tom's Hardware Guide, the 4870 is cooler in peak usage (games) than the NVIDIA 260. However, during idle Windows (2D), the NVIDIA is cooler and uses less watts.

The only real advantage of NVIDIA is drivers...Nothing else !
