Some questions and things I noticed

Talk about NBA 2K9 here, as well as all previous games in the NBA 2K series.

Some questions and things I noticed

Postby Leander on Tue Dec 02, 2008 10:16 am

1) How do I offer a player and a pick (trading block)? I know how to put one player on the trading block OR offer one pick but are you also able to - let´s say - offer Curry AND a 1st round pick for e.g. a SG with a rating of 80?

2) Not a question...just simmed a season and got the first draft pick. I drafted an Italian PF, 6'10'', A+ potential, blocking rating of 85. 80 overall. Wow, such a player should join my team in my real association.

3) The AI does not seem to build a team well. Minnesota had three power forwards rated 85 and above at the start of the first season.

4) Injuries...injuried occur way too often, almost every game. Which sliders control injuries? Injury severeness? Stamina? Hardiness?

5) If cpu trades are set to off, can you still conduct manual trades for cpu teams and override them if needed?

6) Does a shot count as a field goal attempt when the player is fouled during the shot? There are boxscores with players that went 0-1 from the field but scored 7 points as they went 7/7 from the FT line.

1) As far as I know, you can only add one item to each of the four trading block slots, whether it is a draft pick or a player.

4) I believe the Durability attribute can lessen or increase injuries, and the severity slider just adjusts, well, how sever the injury is.

5) I don't think you can trade controlling two cpu teams, you can however trade between your team and a cpu team. You can use your team as a proxy. Say you want to trade players from one cpu team to antother, you can trade you player to one team, then trade the player you receive to the other team, then trade that player to the other team for your original player so it appears that the trade only occurred between the two cpu teams.

6) No. This would be unfair to the player's percentage, however, if the shot is made during the foul, it does count as a field goal attempt as well as a made field goal.

Thanks.

6) Really? Well, in previous Live games such shots always counted as shot attempts.

Simmed a few games, checked the box scores and team highs. Dwight Howard had an incredible game with 44 points, 18 rebounds and 7 blocks.

I am also testing the trade blocks. I got Buckner for Rose and Nesterovic for Curry.

7. Why doesn´t the Rockets´mascot dance? It can only be seen in the cutscenes after one quarter.

8. Yao Ming is really strange to control. He can score many points because of his size but defending with him feels rather strange. Sometimes he is too tall to reject a shot and the animation looks bad. He plays high in sky and the rest of the players shoot below him. I think even the backboard shook during a rebound because he jumped into it or something. Some SF posted him up, turned and shot and Yao could not reject the shot although his hand was there.

1) You can trade a pick in one of the four boxes and a player in another of the four boxes. I had to set up my controller so button's 11 and 12 worked so I could cycle through the player positions and then get to the picks. This was very frustrating until I realized I had to configure my gamepad.

Earl - 'Hmmm, What were we before we were monkeys?'
Randy - 'I don't know...I don't even remember being a monkey'

On that note, I got my thumbstick buttons working by installing the logitech drivers, which also installed the profiler, and in it I set them as keystrokes for their keyboard equivalent in the game. Worked like a charm.

The dunk contest is really nice. I scored a 95 on my first attempt in the contest after only some minutes in dunk school. I jumped over the car and dunked it. The alleyoops are quite difficult though. I cannot get the ball most of the time. I had the most fun with the car. LOL It just hurts by seeing Vince Carter fall over the car and land on his back. It looks so horrible.

During the dunk contest, I had LeBron James fall over the car twice on purpose and did not have enough time to perform a dunk, adding 5 (!) points to his total. LOL

Is the game easier with fewer minutes per quarter? I cannot beat Pro level with PDub´s sliders yet and always lose by 10 with 12 minutes per quarter but with 4 minutes per quarter I had an easy 50-34 win.

I think that depends if you have Clutch Factor on or not because at 4 mins per quarter it does not give the CPU enough time to comback but 12 mins is more than enough. If Clutch Factor is on then no, it shouldn't be a problem. Maybe you play a different style?
