Not able to go to "coaching" with controller

I play the game with a controller instead of the keyboard. However, when set to controller, "coaching" option is not highligtable. I have to set control option to "keyboard" to be abel to go to "coaching" mode. Is there a way to resolve this so I don't have to go to "choose side" and change to keyboard every time I want to go to "coaching".

Are you pausing with a controller button? Or with "Esc"/other keyboard button?

I was doing "esc", but it's working now that I do it through the controller.
