The official DLC for the original XBOX version of ESPN NBA 2K5

Hello, today I will be discussing the official DLC roster updates for the original XBOX version of ESPN NBA 2K5 that you could get if you had XBOX Live back in the day! These updates were released throughout the 2004-05 season by Sega and Visual Concepts, they're very nice roster updates but they do have some flaws like incorrect jersey numbers for a few players, in which I will mention below, It's amazing how the original XBOX version actually got official roster updates back then. I will make this post as detailed as I can.

Here are the nice things about these updates:

Josh Smith's number has been updated from #42 to #5 (Happy late 39th birthday J-Smoove!)

1. Very accurate lineups

2. Officially released

3. Roster "2004-12-07" onwards adds the alternate uniforms new to the 2004-05 season (Ex. the Atlanta Hawks yellow alternate)

4. Fake Hawks rookies Tony Williams and Marcus Johnson are removed from the roster along with Rick Fox, in which I wonder why they included him if he was already retired upon the game's release.

5. Some of the 2004-05 rookies like Trevor Ariza are added even if they use generic heads.

6. Rosters "2005-03-09" and "2005-04-26" correct Josh Smith's dominant hand from being a right hander to a lefty like he's supposed to be.

Now time for the flaws:

1. Despite his jersey number being updated from #42 to #5, Josh Smith is still missing his accessories (including his headband) and his sock length is still set to Short when it should be set to Medium, thankfully the player can easily fix this and other players either have their accessories partially missing or missing completely, which can also be easily added by the player.

2. Jelani McCoy is still wearing #32 and remains unsigned on the 2004-12-07 roster, based on days before the Hawks waived him when he should be on the Hawks wearing #34.

3. Lamar Odom is still wearing #5 when he should be wearing #7, making the Los Angeles Lakers have 2 players wearing #5, the other being Tierre Brown, Brian Cook should be wearing #43 instead of #7 and DeShawn Stevenson on the Magic is wearing #2 when he should be wearing #9, making the Orlando Magic have 2 players wearing #2, the other being former Atlanta Hawk Stacey Augmon, they still have these numbers on the 2005-04-26 roster (the 2005 NBA Playoffs official roster update, the custom player trick I made a tutorial of can fix these players' jersey numbers)

4. Metta World Peace aka Ron Artest is still wearing #15 on some of these rosters when he should be wearing #91 on them. (I tried to use the custom player trick on him but highest jersey number I got for Metta World Peace was #55 therefore it's not possible to get him to wear #91, which sucks)

5. Atlanta Hawks rookies Royal Ivey and Donta Smith are not included. (I have creations of these 2 so I will post creation guides for them when I can)

Been posting a lot about this game as it's my favorite 2K of all time as it entertains me the most.

(Photo was taken with my phone as I don't have a capture device and this game doesn't run very good on emulator)

Official roster updates are something that are sort of taken for granted now. They were a big deal when they first started coming through though, especially on console as it used to be PC only for a while there. Can't undersell the important step that was getting hard drives into consoles!

I double-checked and Rick Fox wasn't cut until September 30th and officially retired October 1st, so he was still technically on the roster at the cut-off for ESPN NBA 2K5 and NBA Live 2005.

Yeah, I also mentioned the flaws with the official roster updates, like Josh Smith missing his accessories despite his number being updated to #5 and Lamar Odom, Brian Cook and DeShawn Stevenson having wrong jersey numbers, etc. the updates were still very nice though.

Overlooking their numbers is odd for sure. After all the unofficial updates I've made for NBA Live PC back in the day, I can attest to oversights happening, but those are some prominent players. Still cool that they did that, though. I have a feeling they beat EA to the punch as far as roster updates for consoles, though of course NBA Live 99 PC did get a couple of updates after the lockout ended.

They also overlooked the player's accessories too, Josh Smith wore a headband, an armband on either his left or right arm and medium length socks during the 2004-05 season yet he doesn't have any of these on the official roster updates, this part bugs me the most with these official roster updates, thankfully, you can easily add them yourself
