The most OUTDATED portrait in ESPN NBA 2k5

Postby boxMAN29 on Sun Nov 24, 2024 11:03 pm

ESPN NBA 2K5 has some pretty outdated player portraits as most were transferred from the previous installment but this one is the most outdated of them all, this is of NBA analyst and former player Jim Jackson aka Jimmy Jackson, This game was based on the 2004-05 season, his SECOND SEASON WITH THE HOUSTON ROCKETS before he went to the Phoenix Suns yet they used an old picture of him on the Atlanta Hawks with him smiling in it (I believe it's from the 2000-2001 season before he got traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers) yet he never smiled in ANY studio portrait while he was on the Houston Rockets plus he's actually seen in the game's intro in a Rockets uniform doing a chest bump with Steve Francis. They also used this for his portrait in NBA 2K2, 2K3 and ESPN NBA Basketball (2K4).

I even dumped it with PCSX2's texture dumping/replacement feature as I have not been able to find the full image.

I also attached what Sega and Visual Concepts could have used instead, which are 3 pics of Jimmy Jackson from Media Day 2003.

What do you guys think?

Wow, that is surprisingly outdated! Just checked NBA Live 2005 PC as it's been a while, and it seems it used the notably less cheerful Rockets media day headshot.

Yeah, they used that same pic in NBA Live 06, It's funny how EA used a pic of Jimmy Jackson on Media Day 2003 on the Houston Rockets in NBA Live 2005 yet Sega and Visual Concepts used an old picture of him on the Atlanta Hawks on ESPN NBA 2K5, I can tell it's an old pic, presumably from the 2000-01 season bc I easily recognize that Atlanta Hawks uniform the NBA analyst is wearing as it's the 1999-2007 Atlanta Hawks home uniform, my all time favorite Atlanta Hawks uniform. What's more, that picture of Jimmy Jackson on 2K5 was actually a picture of him when he was younger than when ESPN NBA 2K5 was released, that picture of him on the Hawks that Sega and Visual Concepts used for his portrait was taken when he was 29-30 years old yet when the game was released, he was 33 years old which is also inaccurate to the 2004-05 season, the season 2K5 is based on.

I have an update, I just recently got NBA 2K2 for the original Xbox and I went to check NBA Analyst Jim Jackson's portrait and it turns out, it's the same one as on ESPN NBA 2K5 but on 2K5, they rotated it slightly so I was right about it being on 2K2 after all.
