Sat Jan 03, 2009 7:32 pm

When i Put My player detai on ultra high the game is all choppy but when everything is just on high it runs perfectly

then just use high then :) how many FPS do you get on either settings?

run this (fraps:http://www.fraps.com/setup.exe) to find out..usually low 30s would feel choppy (for me)

Actually on my PC and all high settings I get 30 FPS, so quite good. When I set player details to ultra high though, I get 20 FPS and the game is totally unplayable.

My specs:

Athlon dual core 2.3 GHz
2 GB RAM
GeForce 8600 GT 512 MB

set it to ultra high then lower the crowd....the crowd eats up alot of FPS....i have everything on max except for the crowd details...and everything runs smoothly

The Ultra High need a Powerful CPU to support because the waves of the jerseys all depends on CPU.

My Laptop:
WinXP Pro SP3/Win7 Ultimate
Intel Core2 Duo T7500 2.2 GHz
3 GB RAM DDR2
GeForce 8600M GS 256MB

I can also play the game with everything on max except for the crowd details in 30ftps and sommthly like Spree#8.

So I think CPU is very important.

That didn't help me. With crowd on medium and players on ultra high, still ~20 FPS. With crowd and players both on high it's over 30 FPS after installing the patch.

Do you have players on ultra high or high?

I think you guys have to edit that config.cfg file to add another thread to compute the cloth effect.

Could you please show us how to do that?

Re: Ultra high or Very High.. whatever

At the bottom of the config.cfg file, there are four lines that say "cloth logical thread" or something liek that, and they have a number next to them. The first one has "1", and the next 3 have "-1." Try changing the second one to 2 or something. You can actually experiment with the numbers since some people have found that using different numbers have improved it, like 2 and 3, rather than 1 and 2.

The config.cfg file is in the Saves folder.

Didn't work for me, well i can play on everything high and ultra high players but high crowd lags me so i gotta play that medium

Here's my config.cfg file

Code:
VIDEOSETTING_ADAPTERINDEX = 0
VIDEOSETTING_WIDTH = 1280
VIDEOSETTING_HEIGHT = 720
VIDEOSETTING_COLORDEPTH = 32
VIDEOSETTING_VSYNC = 1
VIDEOSETTING_REFRESHRATE = 60
VIDEOSETTING_WINDOWMODE = 0
VIDEOSETTING_MSAA = 0
VIDEOSETTING_MSAAQUALITY = 0
VIDEOSETTING_MAXTEXTURESIZE = 4096
VIDEOSETTING_DEPTHOFFIELD = 0
VIDEOSETTING_FLOORREFLECTION = 1
VIDEOSETTING_CROWDDETAIL = 2
VIDEOSETTING_SHADERDETAIL = 1
VIDEOSETTING_PLAYERLOD = 3
VIDEOSETTING_SIDELINECHARACTER = 2
MAIN_LOGICAL_THREAD = 1
GPU_LOGICAL_THREAD = 0
STALL_CPU_ON_END_FRAME = 1
LIMIT_FLIP_QUEUE_LENGTH = 2
LIMIT_FLIP_QUEUE_LENGTH_SLEEP = 0
STICKYKEY = 498
TOGGLEKEY = 50
FILTERKEY = 114
ACCESSIBILITYKEY_SAVED = 1
LANGUAGE = -482460772
CLOTH_LOGICAL_THREAD_0 = 1
CLOTH_LOGICAL_THREAD_1 = -1
CLOTH_LOGICAL_THREAD_2 = -1
CLOTH_LOGICAL_THREAD_3 = -1

You can try changing the first two Cloth Logical Threads. You can also disable the first one and just experiment ebcasue some people have gotten different combinations to work.

CLOTH_LOGICAL_THREAD_0 = 1
CLOTH_LOGICAL_THREAD_1 = -1

to

CLOTH_LOGICAL_THREAD_0 = 1
CLOTH_LOGICAL_THREAD_1 = 2

or 2 and 3 or 3 and 4, or 1 and 3, etc.

Just experiment and see what happens. My game actually ran a little worse when I did it, but I never had lower than 30 fps with everything maxed except the crowd at medium.

I tried it already with many combinations and none of them helped me. Well, I will probably try again and experiment more though.

Pdub, I'm running everything on HIgh, player detail at Ultra High with around 35-45 FPS. Do you think changing the cloth logic would help out gaining a few more FPS.

Re: Ultra high or Very High.. whatever

Well, this tweak was found by someone else who had an AMD dual core processor and had very low framerates with players on Ultra High. Applying the tweak fixed it. I tried the tweak even though I had no problem on Ultra High, and it actually lowered my fps. It wasn't unplayable, but the more threads I enabled, the lower the framerate went.

Re: Ultra high or Very High.. whatever

I tried soooooooo many tweaks but the game is still un playable ,when everything is on ultra high etc. (1400x1050 MSAA x8 ) the game runs @ 39 FPS ,when I set crowd medium I gain 2 or 3 FPS but its still not smoothly enough and when I choose players details high , it runs @ 60 FPS , i don't really understand because I have a pretty good specs I think
here it is :
AMD 64x dual core 6000+
2Go RAM
win XP sp3
ati radeon 4850 HD 512 mo

Re: Ultra high or Very High.. whatever

Mon Jan 26, 2009 10:14 am

Get rid of MSAA, or atleast turn it down. Not much reason for it at such a high resolution.

Core 2 Duo @ 2.66
3.25 gb ram
Win XP SP2
Sapphire Radeon HD 3850 256 mb

Running the game at 1280x720 @ 60 fps with 30 fps during substitution overlay and wide stadium view. All settings high except Crowd at medium and Depth of Field off which doesn't make much of a difference either way.

Re: Ultra high or Very High.. whatever

This game is... :(

Day 1: the game runs well with high settings.
Day 2: because it works with high settings I raise players to ultra high

And wow, no lag. Everything's fine.

Day 3: lag! Same settings but lag! I reset players to high again...but still not smooth. Medium crowd...nothing.
Quit the game...started it again...better.

Could it be that some arenas run more smoothly than others? I could play well in Madison Square Garden, even with ultra high. Today I played @ Cleveland and it lagged but only on the very bottom left part of the court. With my cam set to Nose Bleeds (zoom 10, height 1) you can see the photographers, mascot etc. ... it only lagged in the bottom left corner.

Re: Ultra high or Very High.. whatever

Mon Jan 26, 2009 1:11 pm

Is it lag or low fps? what fps are you getting? and what PC specs are you running NBA 2k9 on?

Re: Ultra high or Very High.. whatever

Mon Jan 26, 2009 5:48 pm

well i try tu set down msaa to 0 and the resolution too , the game runs @ 45 FPS , and it cant get higher , maybe i need more RAM ??

Re: Ultra high or Very High.. whatever

Mon Jan 26, 2009 7:10 pm

RAM dont give you signigicantly higher fps unless you are running really low on RAM, what is your videocard?
I noticed that vsync on limits your fps to a certain level, have you tried turning it off?
I cannot play with it off though as i get above 60fps and from there its erratic (sometimes hit 90fps but then dips to 70fps which make the gameplay not as smooth as a constant 60fps)

but feel free to experiment as to what works for you best :)

Re: Ultra high or Very High.. whatever

Mon Jan 26, 2009 7:17 pm

my video card is sapphire radeon 4850 HD 512 mo
settings set 1280x1024
refresh rate 75
v sync off
msaa 0
player ultra high
crowd medium

Re: Ultra high or Very High.. whatever

Mon Jan 26, 2009 10:58 pm

hmmmm thats weird, my videocard (GeForce GTX260) is just a little better than yours but that 4850 is in the upper range of performance compared to most cards (AFAIK its about the same as the 9800GTX/8800GTX which is plenty of power for this game)

SO with that card, i would expect results better than 45fps at your settings. What processor do you have and how much RAM do you have?just to give you an idea of how many fps i get
at 1680x1050 , highest in game MSAA (i forgot what settings) all highest possilble (meaning HIGH for most and ULTRA HIGH for players) and forced 16x Anisotropic Filtering via the nVIDIA control panel

w/ vsync on
2008-12-31 00:34:51 - nba2k9
Frames: 9435 - Time: 157442ms - Avg: 59.927 - Min: 56 - Max: 62

w/ vsnyc off
2008-12-31 00:38:24 - nba2k9
Frames: 5873 - Time: 74155ms - Avg: 79.199 - Min: 63 - Max: 99

the 4850 being just a tad slower than the GTX260, I would expect it, under normal circumstances, to perform close to that I posted
