Talk about NBA 2K9 here, as well as all previous games in the NBA 2K series.

I believe there was an announcement that NBA LIVE 2010 will be coming out for the PC next year, and if 2K decides to continue making their game available for the PC, will you guys go back to the Live series? Or do you intend to stick with 2K?
edit: let's say that the new LIVE 2010 will be a XBOX 360 port...

I doubt EA will port the PS2 version to the PC, and let's say they don't and port the XBOX 360 version, would you still go back to Live?

then it´s a tough question...i´ve never played live on a nextgen console, so i don´t know about the gameplay. i really like 2k so far, it "feels" more like "basketball" than pretty much any of the nba lives i´ve played before.
and after being let down by ea sports more than once regarding their pc games i really don´t know if i should give them the benefit of the doubt once again(in years past you didn´t really have a choice as pc gamer).

I've seen videos on the gameplay of LIVE on next-gen consoles and they don't compare to 2K. In LIVE, the players on the court really don't look so smooth and seem robotic but in 2K, it looks like the players are organic and true to the motion that they are really playing basketball. I still don't have 2K (hopefully i get my copy tomorrow) but by looking back at the History of LIVE, with all these substitution bugs and fatigue bugs and unrealistic gameplay (PG domination) and also with them screwing with us this year, i'm looking to become a perminant 2K player lol. The only reason why i've been buying LIVE all these years (since 1997) is because as a PC gamer, i had no choice, LIVE was the only basketball game in the market but if i had a choice of 2K and LIVE, I probably would have converted to 2K after 2006 (that's when LIVE started to go down hill)

Don't need to post it yet, most of us don't have the 2k9 yet...

Here you can see my feelings.

Both of our threads are very similar though.

i would still stick with 2k

if we'll talking about next series...
Yeah, agree with beatboxer, Live's foot planing were great, hate 2k's sliding, but if they'll fix it, maybe i consider them next year.
If Live will port the PS3/Xbox360 consoles to PC thats the point that i should go back to them.

I don't care if EA makes a holographic NBA game, they screwed us one too many times.
First they test us in 2002 by skipping the PC version.
Then they put out current gen garbage for the past 5 years.
Then they put a pathetic Live 2007 and Live 2008.
Now they screw us by canceling the PC version.
I felt totally screwed. As bad as the game was, I always looked forward to a new bball game and the new additions to it. They LAUGHED IN OUR (PC USERS) FACES and told us to get a PS3.
And along comes 2k9.
They offer us a PC game to save us from an empty year.
They offer us NEXT GEN graphics!
And they're selling it for $19.99!!!!!
EA, you can suck my d* for the rest of my life. I'm never EVER going to buy an EA game. If I see that a game so much has the EA logo on it (as developer OR publisher), I'm skipping that garbage.

JWL3, have to agree with you on some front, especially the one where you said they screwed us one too many times. Well, to be precise, they screwed PC users one too many times.
I was really excited about Live 08 when they advertised "Signature Go-to moves" and "Own the paint" at the back of the box and all over the place. I was so thrilled about the thought that Marion would finally stop shooting with the generic shot and all that. I bought the game only to find out that there are less than 10 signature shots and less than 10 Go-to moves. To make matter worst, "Own the paint" can only be found on consoles.
I felt totally screwed too, but only for Live 08. I've enjoyed playing the previous versions of Live eventhough you guys think it sucks.
My answer to the first post of this thread is, I'll stick with Live series as well as playing 2k9. I dont see anything wrong with playing both games so why not?

I'll play both, just like i did this year, just like i have every year.
You don't have to play either one or the other. There's no limits on how many basketball games you play per year, believe it or not.

Yeah, but most people tend to choose the better of the two games and play it over the course of a year. (If 2k10 is clearly better than Live 10, I wouldn't bother with the poorer version - waste of my time. Sports sims aren't like First person shooters where even if the game is worse, the maps and adventure are different.)
Live 07 was pretty bad, didn't you think? It was worse than 08.
It was painful to hear all the cool marketing gimmicks (signature shots, quick strike, post up moves) only to realize - oops, you PC losers aren't getting it. Only button masher babies with consoles need apply.

in my eyes, ea is not only dead since years, its already rotten completely.

to me 2k is just a more realer game to me. the graphics, gameplay, and atmosphere are all superior to live

NBA 2k9.....Might not make a 2k10.....because of whats currently happening...(activation codes)
Like this whole steam thing is stupid.......
Wed Oct 22, 2008 8:11 am
Wrong. Steam is awesome.
The way 2K is using it is stupid. If only they used it like everyone else does.

I will definitely stay with NBA 2K series! WOW 2k9 is so much realistic than LIVE 08, the little things they add to the game like when players collide in the air and fall down, players running around picks, the presentation, the highlights during the games and after the game. The feel of an NBA game is so much realistic on 2K9 than any LIVE game so ya, I'm loving 2K and never supporting LIVE again!
Sun Oct 26, 2008 12:57 pm
i still dont have the game...but i can comment on the comparison you just made...you cant really compare nba2k9 with live 08 because they were ported from two different versions of the game...i guess you can start comparing the two when they are both ported from the versions...im not a big fan of live 08 and still play live 06 because i found it more playable than 08... but we have to give it the benefit of the doubt that what if it was also ported from xbox360...but it is not so that's why it'll lose everytime we compare it to 2k9...
cheers!

If NBA 2K7 and NBA 2K8 came out for the PC, I would have probably switched since LIVE was going downhill after 06. 2K made the basketball game more realistic, and it presents itself like you are watching a real basketball game on tv. Live just made games and didn't care for the PC consumers since they knew that Live was the only basketball game for the PC so they knew we would buy it regardless if it was bad or good. But now we have a choice and 2K is now the standard for PC basketball games.

I say yes - period. Provided, 2k10 will be in PC. Hopefully.
Sun Oct 26, 2008 6:31 pm
There should be an option: Yes, and never going back as long as 2K releases the game for PC.
Mon Oct 27, 2008 12:14 am
same here. as long as 2k continues to make good games for the pc i will never go back to live.
Mon Oct 27, 2008 7:32 am
2k all day !
