Problems with give and go

Correct me if I am wrong but I think this move is called give and go:

1) I call for a pick
2) I get the pick and
3) Instead of driving by my teammate I pass back to him because he is heading towards the basket (waving his hand).

Unfortunately, he is too stupid to catch the ball most of the time. He waves his hand, I pass him the ball and it just bounces off his hand. It only works about 20% of the time.

For a real give and go hold the backdown and aggressive modifier buttons and pass it to a teammate. The player you passed with will start to cut to the basket and will have the pass button icon over his head. Just press pass to pass it to him while he is cutting.

What you are describing is the pick and roll, and it sounds like you are passing it to him too early.

I thought pick and roll would be a pick by player 1 who holds off the player guarding player 2 and player 2 uses the pick to get past the defender.

That's just a pick, the roll is from the player who sets the pick. AFter the player gets past the screened defender, the player setting the pick rolls to the basket.
A give and go is where a player passes to his teammate and then cuts to the basket looking for a pass right back.
