Features

  • 10 Man Rosters for all 30 NBA teams, based on 2010/2011 season rosters

  • Ratings, sliders and settings adjusted for NBA Jam-style arcade action

  • All players can dunk!

  • NBA Legends team with jerseys and logos

  • Over 70 Special Players/Boss Players including legendary NBA players

  • Arcade Sound Effects from NBA Live 2004

  • All teams play on a custom LIVE JAM court, based on the Thomas & Mack Center

  • Black Remix Tour-style court also included

  • Custom Basketball with glowing, On Fire-type appearance

  • Player and team art updated for the 2010/2011 NBA season

  • Can be used alongside the regular roster update with minimised overlap

  • Compatible with all game modes

  • Optional ABA-style basketball

Limitations

A few things we can't do with LIVE JAM.

  • Sorry, no 2-on-2 or 3-on-3 gameplay. We've never been able to get that to work properly.

  • No NBA Jam-style dunks, somersaulting off the screen and the like.

  • No custom commentary. We can't edit the commentary, so unfortunately we can't stick in a "Boomshakalaka!" and the like.

  • Unfortunately, we can't use the NBA Live 2003 sound effects. I tried and it crashed the game, which is a shame because there are some really good arcade-style sounds in 2003 that would've been perfect. Can't be done though.

  • There's no way to represent Fire in terms of gameplay.

  • And in general, we can't add brand new modes or gameplay elements. So whatever this mod does has to make use of what's already in the game.

Future Releases

In future releases, I'd like to add more special players but to do that, I'll need to have an appropriate cyberface (and preferably a portrait as well). Feel free to suggest players to be added or donate any face/portrait files, including portrait files for special players who are currently missing one. Other ideas on how to improve and expand the mod are also most welcome.

We can make bigger faces.

To replicate big head mode? Yeah, I guess that's an idea but right now getting normal faces for the special characters is more of a priority.

wow live jam. amazing name

Pat found something that scales all CF sizes, I forget which game or what file but big head is possible

I got a stadium I made, dark crowd like lakers, scrolling dorna as the video ads, Ill try to find it, it would work well for this

we can actually edit the height of the dunk.....just, where the dunk finishes, not mid flight. So we could add a 2nd rim 10 feet above the normal rim and have dunks go there but that kind of defeats the purpose....and it looks like crap.

as for "on fire" we could add better effects for when freestyle moves occur below the player for 06-08 but not much else. For Street 07 I tried to exploit the X-Factor thing to allow gamebreakers but nothing good ever came from it.

That'd be awesome if we could scale the faces. That court sounds good too. (Y)

Yeah, doesn't sound like editing the height of the dunks is going to work out the way we want it. I reckon we stick to the High Flyer dunks, everyone's dunking and jumping ratings are maxed out and I'll be editing dunk packages on top of that so that everyone's got one of the packages with flashy dunks.

I did wonder about making use of X-Factor. As it is, the mod is going to be a little different for each game because of the way they handle the special moves. NBA Live 08 is probably going to work out the best with automatically triggered moves, NBA Live 07 will allow people to switch as necessary and utilise X-Factors, for NBA Live 06 I'll have to set the most appropriate FSS movesets to each player by default (probably High Flyer mostly though) and NBA Live 2005 is just going to be up-tempo and arcade-like without the special moves.

Andrew, im will to help in any way (especially on the NBA LIVE 08 front)!

I'll start look into creating a logo and maybe menu arts/backgrounds/JAM menu background videos? and post previews asap. i havnt been into arts as much as i used to, but i was recently forced to find art myself when the arts for TUP10 were slow...so maybe i can still be in that mode. if someone can do it better than me, please.

the things i remember from JAM is the simplicity of the game. so how about just one set jersey for each team? current home and away. no practice, no classic

also unproportional body sizes (bigger heads, smaller body, etc) would be nice for an arcade feel.

since all players dunk/jump are maxed...will they all be dunking with highflyer dunks? (even if its someone like Muggys B?)

"settings" should also be released along with it right? one that has a really high game speed, high shooting percentage (esp for long rang) high dunk frequency...etc.

maybe we can learn from hawk_3y3's RAP patch and make the crowd chant things like "boomshaklaka?" or other quotes? then just have the commentators 0 volume....but then it would be random if the crowd is yelling it... :|

overall, interesting idea. hope i can help in any way! (Y)

Thanks KidJustin, it'd be great to have you on board. :)

Some frontend art and the like would be good, it would require a bit more effort switching back and forth between regular mods and JAM but obviously it would be great for the atmosphere. As for the jerseys, I considered that, or even making the away jerseys the only ones that are used for home and away games (since in the original games, the home jersey was only worn when two teams had away jerseys with similar colours, eg the Bulls and Clippers). On one hand I'd like to allow people the opportunity to play with the classic jerseys as well, but that's definitely an interesting idea. (Y)

It's going to work a little differently in each version of the mod because NBA Live 06-08 handle special moves differently (and 2005 has no FSS moves) but in the 08 version everyone's going to be able to perform the High Flyer dunks along with the others in their designated package. The settings will definitely be included so that the necessary sliders will be used, along with the altered rules. However, since I can see people wanting to switch back and forth, I'd also include a listing of all the settings in case people want or need to make manual changes.

We might be able to edit the audio a bit, though it wouldn't be quite the same as custom commentary. ;)

That'd be great. :) Cyberfaces are probably the big thing at the moment, so that I can get the special characters in the game. Which I guess brings up the matter of who we're going to have as the special characters outside maxed out NBA Legends.

I was thinking it'd be cool to have Barack Obama in there, as a reference to Bill Clinton being in the Jam games in the 90s. That, and his enthusiasm for basketball are the only reasons however as I certainly don't want to turn this into a political issue; I personally don't support any Australian politicians, let alone American ones. I'm sure most people will get where we're coming from if we do that but I would like to state now that it has nothing to do with politics, it would just be a reference to a secret character in the original series.

To that point, I reckon Mark Turmell (the original creator of Jam) would make a pretty good secret character as well. There's a recent photo on the Inside EA Sports blog that might be suitable. Terrell Owens and Jack Nicholson are a couple of other names I'd throw out there, maybe some of the celebrities who participate in the Celebrity Game at the All-Star Weekend would be good choices. I'm open to suggestions here. :)

As for jerseys, I'm currently thinking of a custom Free Agents jersey that makes uses of the new EA Sports NBA Jam logo, so that the special characters in the Free Agent pool can be used in one-on-one mode and the like without having to wear that plain Free Agents jersey.

Mon Jun 07, 2010 4:34 pm

Andrew, are there only going to be 30 teams? or will fiba still be available? and adidas? and decade?

will u create an NBA Legends Team?

will special characters be only in Free Agent? or will there be a special character team?

since each team will have 10 players...will the extra be Free Agents? or completely removed?

Re: New Project: LIVE JAM (Help Wanted)

Mon Jun 07, 2010 4:42 pm

At the moment, 30 NBA teams, the two All-Star teams and the Rookie and Sophomore teams. I'll probably keep Decade All-Stars in there, all the other extra teams are gone. I wasn't going to create a Legends team or anything, just have the special characters available in the Free Agent Pool. Any player not on an NBA roster or one of the remaining All-Star teams has been assigned to the Retired Pool, so they won't be accessible in game (but are there in the database in case we need them).

Re: New Project: LIVE JAM (Help Wanted)

Mon Jun 07, 2010 5:11 pm

i see sounds good, as far as frontend art...

when this MOD is out i was actually planning on trying to install 2 versions, that way i could pretend im playing two different games, instead of switching..but thats just me.

..anyways, are u thinking of something fresh and new? or something with more of the classic arcade style feel?

but then again, i'm only experienced at editing Live08 menus...how would that work for older versions? :|

unless u completely didnt want menu arts...so that all versions would be the same?

Re: New Project: LIVE JAM (Help Wanted)

Mon Jun 07, 2010 5:37 pm

That's the thing, we might have to leave them out of the other versions. Perhaps leave them for now unless we can get some more people on board to make any conversions as necessary.

Re: New Project: LIVE JAM (Help Wanted)

Mon Jun 07, 2010 6:09 pm

Andrew, fantastic idea and i can help in any things i could do.

Maybe considering making custom alternative jerseys for each team, making it feel more like NBA Jam in overall ,adding fires in jerseys and things like it.
Also the making of an NBA JAM arena instead of All-Star Court?WIth patterns on the floor resembling the game, like fires etc.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7bUm4_dyiI4

Also looking at this make me think about making a fire transition or sth like that for the game?

Finally about Celebrities.Maybe add Chris Tucker as well. He's been one of the most common participants of All Star Celebrity game nad he's a fan of basketball.
Adding a harlem Globetrotters team?

Re: New Project: LIVE JAM (Help Wanted)

Mon Jun 07, 2010 6:13 pm

Good ideas, and good call on Chris Tucker. If we can muster up the art then I think that'll work out great. :)

Re: New Project: LIVE JAM (Help Wanted)

Mon Jun 07, 2010 6:23 pm

If menu arts will be made at a later stage,i could work on photoshop with Jam-like menus and KidJustin can help me in the import(in order not to mess it up).

By the way, the menus on 07-08 live version isn't the same(and live 06 i think too)?Only the menu vids change.
Maybe if we make different menus for each live but this will only be possible with many person, you have a clearer icon on how much can help the project

Re: New Project: LIVE JAM (Help Wanted)

Mon Jun 07, 2010 6:28 pm

That's why I'm thinking perhaps we don't worry about them for now, work on the other stuff first and then perhaps develop those as an add-on once we've got people to help out with the art for 2005-07.

Re: New Project: LIVE JAM (Help Wanted)

wow sounds good ...
i will help ...

Re: New Project: LIVE JAM (Help Wanted)

Mon Jun 07, 2010 9:25 pm

Thanks, appreciate it. :)

So, a preliminary list of special characters so far:

Barack Obama
Chris Tucker
Jack Nicholson
Mark Turmell
Terrell Owens

Re: New Project: LIVE JAM (Help Wanted)

Mon Jun 07, 2010 9:48 pm

Maybe add these as well
Kanye West,The Game?
Maybe Jamie Foxx and Justin Timberlake as they were the ones playing in the NBA Playoff campaign
(Jack Nicholson ? He's on every Lakers' game )

Re: New Project: LIVE JAM (Help Wanted)

Tue Jun 08, 2010 12:01 am

Sure. The only thing to keep in mind is that the special characters ideally wouldn't require any custom hair files, so we can use the faces with NBA Live 2005 and 06 without too much of a hassle.

Re: New Project: LIVE JAM (Help Wanted)

Tue Jun 08, 2010 12:08 am

I love the idea, keep up the good work (Y)

i would want to see Spike Lee as a special character, if you are taking suggestions.

Absolutely, suggestions are most welcome. Spike Lee would be a good one. :)
