Advantages and Disadvantages of an all star lineup

Sun Feb 01, 2009 11:50 pm

the subject above says everything.

i am just curious. here is an example:
starter:
C-D.Howard
PF-KG
SF-Pierce
SG-R.Allen
PG-CP3

bench: 3 players only(of course, if u have that line up, you probably traded 2 or 3 or even 4 players just to have one of the above starters)

another question, how can you acquire again the players you've traded(obviously they are in different teams now, so how can you bring them back?)

can someone answer me? coz i keep wondering..

I'll answer your question about getting traded players back first. Your options are pretty limited, once you've agreed to a trade it can be undone...at least in the normal case. You can try and make a trade to get the player back (not necessarily easy and you won't always be able to do it), load a saved game before you made the trade or if you're playing on PC, you could undo the trade by editing the players.dbf file to change the rosters around but I think you're cheating yourself of the experience if you do that.

Advantages and disadvantages of an All-Star lineup...well, the advantage is obvious. With such a talented lineup you should have little trouble winning and making it look easy. If you enjoy pounding the CPU into the ground then it's the way to go. The main disadvantage is that this can get very boring for a lot of people (and I'd count myself in that group) because your team isn't really challenged and you spend most of the games just trying to pad stats and get everyone their numbers.

but how can i perform trades if i only have 3 bench players? how can i bring back the players i trade for the all star players i acquire? obviously, i cannot trade one of my starter coz there will be a salary cap problem and rating problems.

about the disadvantages of an all start lineup, aside from what u said, what else? like salary problem, salary budget for every player and some sort of that.

btw, thanks again, sir andrew.

Well, that's the point. It's not easy to reverse a trade or bring back the players you traded through any legitimate means. You're not meant to be able to trade for a superstar and then get your other players back, that's not the way it works.

And yes, if you have a lot of superstars chances are you'll have a huge payroll too which means you can't sign free agents except those willing to accept a Minimum contract, it's going to be more difficult to trade since you'll be way over the salary cap and will need to match salaries (but on the other hand, interest in your players should be high).

Well you can try trading back players, if that doesnt work, you're most likely screwed unless you try using DBF Editor (I dont know how, but it works)

Anyways for the topic:

Advantages:
You have a team that has no weaknesses with your starting five. You can get very far as long as you give your players enough rest. If you can stay injury free you shouldn't have that much a problem handling a team like the one you have.

Disadvantages: The chances of a low overall chemistry rating is high, players will complain about playtime or roster changes or wanting ot be traded. You have 5 scorers and 1 ball, having the best team possible does not always work out as well as you think. The simulation engine will not be on your side with such a small roster
