Player Editing

Sat Apr 19, 2008 12:08 pm

Somewhat new here, been cruising the site for years, but havent had an account.
Decided to get one.

Anywho, I've seen a few places around here for editing players in a dynasty (this includes changes ratings and moving players from teams) I can't find any now, I was wondering if I could get some detailed help. I have tried it before with no real success.
Thanks.

Welcome (officially) to the Forum. :)

Ratings can be edited by modifying fields in players.dbf. To do this, you need to download DB Commander which is available in the Downloads section. This utility allows you to open NBA Live's .dbf files and modify the data inside. If you want to edit player ratings, these are the fields you need to look at:

FGPBASE: Field Goal/Jump Shooting Rating
THREEPTBAS: Three Point Shooting Rating
FTPBASE: Free Throw Rating
DNKABILITY: Dunking Rating - controls how often a player can make difficult dunks
STLABILITY: Stealing Rating
BLKABILITY: Blocking Rating
OREABILITY: Offensive rebounding rating
DREABILITY: Defensive rebounding rating
BALABILITY: Ball handling (passing) ability
OFFABILITY: Offensive Awareness
DEFABILITY: Defensive Awareness
SPEED: Speed rating
QUICK: Quickness rating
JUMP: Jumping rating
DRIBBLE: Dribbling rating
DSTRENGTH: Strength rating
DHARDY: Hardiness rating - controls injuries in simulated play
DSHOOTRANG: Shooting Range (8-25 feet)
FATIGUE: Fatigue (Endurance) Rating
INSIDESC: Inside Scoring Rating
PRIMACY: Primacy Rating - how often the CPU will use player to score
CLUTCH: Clutch Rating

This tutorial explains the method for trading players through editing players.dbf. More tutorials can be found here and throughout the Patching sections of the Forum.

One of the most important things to remember when working with the databases is to make a backup before you begin tinkering with the data in case anything goes wrong. This is especially important when editing a saved Dynasty because if you mess up and can't restore a working copy of your saved game, you've lost it.

Thanks Andrew :)

Help was greatly appreciated.

Everything works fine, just a crash when opening the Assistant :\
No complaints otherwise

Thanks :)

No problem. :)

What changes did you make? If you made a trade through DBF editing in the middle of assigning training time, that might be the cause of the crash.

No, I made the trades right at the beginning of the year, on the first day of the regular season. Made the trades, everything seemed to be fine (except my roster lineup was way out of order, but that was easily fixed). Went to assistant, got the send/don't send error. After reloading the game, I decided just to forget the assistant. But after about a month of simulating, the game crashed, forgot what the error was but I remember it mentioning the players.dbf file. For some reason I didn't save that month I played (don't ask me why) so I lost it, but no worries there.

Since this thread is about player editing, I would like to ask also what affects player development? What are the value range for LEARNING and WORKETHICS? Does age also affect player development or what field affects age? What is this SPECMAP field for? What field affects MVP candidates if there is any (as my created player can't seem to be included in mvp candidates)?

You might want to check out the DBF Editing Guides. I still need to post the NBA Live 08 guides but the info in the NBA Live 07 guides still applies (only the new fields in 08's databases are missing). Here's a quick rundown though:

CAREERPKG is the attribute that determines a player's potential to develop. It ranges from 1(best) to 8 (worst).

WORKETHIC ranges from 0-3, 0 being the best and 3 being the worst. LEARNING is a standard 0-99 rating, 0 being the worst and 99 being the best.

There's no field that affects MVP candidates per se. If a player has good enough ratings to produce good stats, he'll generally be a candidate. The game's selection criteria when it comes to the awards is far from perfect though so it's difficult to control.

Thanks so much Andrew. The info you just gave is very helpful as i don't have to do trial and error for those values anymore. BTW i checked my PLAYER.dbf a couple of times now but i can't seem to find the CAREERPKG you mentioned. Any ideas? Im using nbalive 2008 pc version REALROSTER.

Sorry, I had a mental blank there; that's what it used to be called. The field you want to look for in NBA Live 08 is actually called DESTINY.
