This isn't really a TECHNICAL problem, but it could really help me out.
Is it possible to make the screenshots come out smaller?
It always comes out as 1280 x 1024.

hmmm...well..yes..
in detail settings, set your resolution into 800X600
then..take a screenshot..
then, you'll get a 800X600 picture..

You can use the EA Graphics Editor in the downloads section to resize your saved screenshots. "Resample" is what the tool is called, I believe.
