Portraits help

Postby yosifun on Mon Feb 11, 2008 7:08 am

I have a ton of portraits on my sgsm folder, so I thought I would save some room and some cpu loading time and import the portraits into the plyrprts.viv file.

After I was done importing all the portraits (took a while..), I went into the game to check out the portraits but those portraits were missing! when I tried to start a game it crashed too!

Can anyone tell me what did I do wrong? All I did was overwriting some old portraits and adding some new..

Thanks in advance :D

What program did you use to import into the plyrprts.viv? It's possible that it was corrupted(fix is possible), or the header was corrupted. I smell bigGUI.

I did use bugGUI, is there a fix for it or maybe another program you can recommend me? (a link would be nice).

Well, what you are going to have to do now is extract all the portraits into a temporary folder just for the portrait big files. You can do that with bigGUI since you can select all the files and then export. Then get EAZIP and EAGE, if you don't already have it. Put eazip in the temporary folder with the portraits. Create a new text document in that folder and name it "cmd.bat", right click it and click edit. It will open in notepad and type cmd.exe and save the file. Double click the cmd.bat file and it will open a command prompt in the temporary directory that you created it in. Type-

eazip -u *.big (uncompresses all the files just in case biggui didn't)

and hit enter.

When it is done, type-

eazip -c *.big (compresses all .big files)

Now, open EAGE. Use the Import Wizard. Select "Add files to an external TAR archive." On the left click browse, find your temporary directory and in the box type plyrprts.viv and click open. On the right click "add" and select all the BIG files in the temporary directory by clicking on the first one, scrolling to the last one and holding the SHIFT key and clicking on it. Then click open. Click "next" and EAGE will create a new portrait viv file for you. Once it is done, rename the old plyrprts.viv file to back it up and move the one we just created from the temporary directory into the FE directory. Play the game and you should be fine.

And after all of that I can import new portraits to the new portrait.viv file as usual or will I have to go through all that again?

Is there another (easier) way to do it maybe with another program?

That's the easiest way to fix your problem at the moment.

wDolffin can import images directly into the big files inside the viv file once it's fixed and it shouldn't get messed up.

Try EAGraph.

I use this software to extract & import ".viv" and ".fsh" files.

Hope it works also with ".big" files.
