I completely agree with you on this topic. I've played all 3 versions of Live on the XBOX 360 and the only thing that really seems to puzzle me is the animations. If they had above average animations they wouldn't get as many complaints. Everyone will say the game is arcadey but that's b.s. because you can get the game to play basketball. But the animations are lacking and in return more flaws regarding the game will be pointed out.
If EA had 2K's animations most people could care less about the bug's in the game. The atmoshere, graphics, sound and arena's all top notch but they just can't seem to provide us animations that were captured so well on the PS2 and Xbox versions of the game.
I've got hundred's of NBA games on tape and I see basic things on the court that makes me scratch my head as to why EA's animation team can't look at a game and say we should go out and motion capture this movement on offense or that movent on defense, I don't know what these guy's do 6-8 month out of the year but sometimes it makes me wonder if they watch the game and observe it closely.
