offense and defense of awareness

I'm still learning the game of basketball so can someone tell me what does offense and defense awarenes means. Because i just got a pda message saying that LeBron James has improved in his defense awareness.

They're both ratings in the game. They refer to how intelligent a player is offensively and defensively as well as how tough they are to guard (or how tough they are as defenders).
