Cheating, Hmm.....

I have been a Live fan since Lakers .vs Celtics and have played online since '03, and the ONE thing that i have never seen addressed in this forum by moderators is the multiplayer bugs that go on in Live. Especially, the PC version. Sure the dynasty experience is cool and exhibition is grand but the only reason I buy Live is to pit my wit against real humans. Why has EA made this experience so horrible? Only the cheaters attain the top records. This is ridiculous. There is absolutely no penalty for cheating in sports games, but in other major multiplayer platforms you would probably get your IP banned. Why then, in sports games, which are supposed to be a "simulation", do the developers not incorporate a decent system to check cheating. SInce NBA Live 03 players have been able to quit games without any penalty by using some kind of network connect error. It has been in EVERY single version. In 07 they could even make you lose even if you were winning by somehow fooling your modem that it had disconnected from the internet. WOW. That made me stop playing altogether. I am a pretty good live player. I have been ranked #1 in the PC rankings, won 70 games in a row, shoot i have 700ish-200ish winning record, but my rating is a meager 1790 because for the last month or so i have been getting cheated out of every win. How fair is that? Just about everyone who plays honest ends up getting cheated at every turn while the cheater remains unscathed at the top with the highest ratings. And the sad part is. In today's society, this MUST be ok, right. Because no one seems to repsond or touch on the issue. I would just like some insight on the subject. Is NBA live just a single player game? Does society think cheating is OK? Why has EA not fixed glaring exploits for almost 5 years now? WOW.

I think cheating is okay if you're playing off-line by yourself (or fooling around with friends in multiplayer).

Online, however, cheating should not be allowed (unless there are cheats-only servers that do not affect the rankings of the non-cheaters).

The reason I don't play live online is because the gameplay is different (I think). and the default roster. I played a couple times when 07 first came out so I haven't played enough to see what kind of cheating goes on. The only time I played I played a guy that was the Nets and he just shot about 90% from downtown with VC.

I don't usually have much to say about online play because to be honest, I don't play online all that much outside a couple of games now and then with some of the other guys on the team in years past. I certainly don't think cheating or cheesy play in online gaming is a good thing but seeing as though I'm primarily playing against the CPU and spending most of my time in Dynasty Mode, the issues with those elements of the games are the ones I experience more often.

I would say that it's a similar story for a lot of people in the community. It's not that people feel that cheating is alright, but if User vs CPU games and Dynasty Mode is the gaming experience a person is most interested in, their main gripes are probably not going to be with online play. I'd say for a lot of people - myself included - NBA Live is indeed primarily a single player game so not everyone shares those gripes (or places them at the top of the list).

That said, I certainly agree that cheating should be discouraged and penalising players who quit or intentionally cause a connection error would seem a good place to start.

2K7 has the same issues. online gaming can be really fun in that game, but most of the time it's really frustrating. 2K's almost got it right, but there are still major issues with it.

only time I cheat is when I play an exhibition game against the CPU and I'm pissed cause I'm like down 20 with 3 mins to go i just put my slider for long range shooting up to 99 and heat up :D but that's just when I want to kick the CPUs ass

i play 2k7 online and I played 4 people total so far, I beat all of them, 2 of them quit so i won, 1 of them that didnt quit was cheating and i still beat them :)

You just need to know how to play against the cheeters.

this guy was playing the heat and trying all the tricks in the book, but I burned him.

The most annoying one is 2k7 has a glitch where the players don't go down the court on an inbound, and you can make a long inbound pass and get a basket 9/10 times.

I don't think the problem is restricted to NBA games. I've heard that there's a lot of cheesy online play when it comes to THQ's Smackdown series.

i loved online play since 2004.....there were a lot of cheesers and quitters online.

guys who play to get their rankings up mostly resolve to cheating or cheesing at one point or the other.
players who play for fun always will have low rankings, but they at least play their games out and enjoy all their games. I had my own list of players i enjoyed playing.

now i just play in leagues online where there are gameplay rules. i get bored of the game against CPU. the dynasty is great, but after 5 months or less you get bored.
I'm still playing 2006 online in one league, where we are in 2008 and are about to have a draft. Most GM's are veterans, have good connections and good pc's.

When 08 comes out, i wil be getting xbox360...i just hope that online feature will be good and smooth.
