Looks amazing except Richard Jefferson looks really stupid trying to guard Gasol.

It looks REALLY good.

IMO, the animations flow so much better than 2k7, I have 2k7 on ps3, and people say in motion it looks really good, but it doesn't, ice skating, the player's walking down the court calling a play and then all of a sudden he's in a running motion, a player's fading away, then all of a sudden he's standing straight up.

I like how smooth it looks and the way the animations blend together, I like how they're improving things like post play.

8-) HOLLY CRAP :D

It's the first good video footage I've seen of NBA Live 08. Looks really good. Dunks and lay ups in the game suck major ass. :D

I thought the Quickstrike trailer was better.

^^yea me too, but this one was good too

This is an awesome video. If you look you see how much better this game's presentation is than previous years. Look closely and you can see that every player on the court has their head looking towards the ball or the center of play, which is great. The only bad thing is how it looks as if Richard Jefferson just gives up on the play against Pau Gasol instead of getting beat by him, but the positive out of that is when you see the reaction of the Nets bench after Jefferson gets scored on, just perfect. And Kevin Garnett's fade-away looks beautiful in green.

This video looks good :)

Looks very arcadish as always. Still not convinced, i'll stick with 2K
The defense in the paint does not look very good.

Sat Aug 11, 2007 7:52 am

i dont get how that looks arcadish??wut about it looks arcadish..to me it looked like realistic and smooth..

Sat Aug 11, 2007 8:26 am

When Jefferson is in the paint and Gasol goes to the basket that's AWFUL.
Theres no interaction, no body contact, no defense, looks like Jefferson is an invisible phantom

Sat Aug 11, 2007 8:45 am

that didn't seem arcadish to me, people have to understand wut you say when you call something arcadish, the only thing that didn't seem TOO REAL(not arcadish) was the body contact

I'm still waiting for new gameplay videos, as you can't really judge too much from these special-camera-angle videos. That said, the animations get a B+ from me, mostly because the net animation is silly and there's something strange about the way the ball interacts with the rim. It can't be that hard to make players' hands contact the rim when they dunk, additionally.

Garnett in a C's uniform caught me off guard :D

Sat Aug 11, 2007 9:45 am

why is everyone jumping so high?
off a standstill too... dirk was like rocket propelled in the air while playing D trying to block the shot

Sat Aug 11, 2007 11:52 am

This game is going to be hot, the only thing that bothers me is the defense.

I really got to say they look good, really good. No hickups, little glitches, speed changes etc. all very fluid. I'm definately renting both games this year, I never thought I'd consider buying a Live game again, and even if it wasn't for Live, i didn't think I'd ever consider not buying the newest 2k game and just play last years 2k game.

I want to see how the gameplay looks though. Visually it looked decent last year but I just didn't like some animations. Like how the players were always kinda bent over protecting the ball when they're in the middle court with noone around and such, thats one thing i do like about 2k, thier animations do feel real (even though they tie together like shit). So far the post looks great, even if it just had the few moves shown in the vid, I'd be happy.

Sat Aug 11, 2007 4:20 pm

It said at the end that you could creat ur own go to move. is that only in the post or generally your ingame go to move?

NBA live is Back!!!!!!

Alot of you guys are impressed too easily, and I think that is one of the reasons many think Live is going downhill.

One of the things I don't like is how scripted the animations look. It just doesn't look natural to me. EA should try what they did in 04 and just mocap some 5 on 5 games. The moves lack some intesity. They just look too casual.

Some of the moves look good, others look really bad. Dwight Howards up and under fake where it looks like his body turns in mid air looks bad, but the move he pulled before that was nice, which is a move they seem to show a few more times. Camby's fakes looked weak. I liked the hook shots and the up and under fakes.

Once again we see a lack of defense, not by Dirk, not by Jefferson, not by Z who just stands there. Most of it looks like there still isn't a sense of weight and strength whenmaking physical contact. I'm willing to bet that the animation where the defense jumps at a fake is canned. I can only cross my fingers and hope they are holding off on releasing some information abou being able to play defense.

As far as creating your own go-to move, I talked about that in another thread thinking that you could string together a set of moves in the edit player screen, but Andrew said it meant you could string together moves in-game using the quick-strike ball handling because of the amount of combos you can put together and being able to break out of an animation. Correct me if I am not understanding it completely, Andrew.

Yes, yes, yes. I don't know if EA stopped doing that, but Live 2004 and 2005 was the best Live engine they ever created. Their focus for 2004 was entirely on how the players operated as a whole with all ten people on the court. Other than the excessive bumping issue, they had focused on all the little things and that's why it was great.

That's what 2K has perfected, ever since 2K2 they've focused on the little nuances every other year, and therefore gotten those things down perfectly.

I've seen nothing really that amazingly new in that video at all. As I keep saying, the base animations are the same ones since Live 2003. Heck, a lot of the post moves are derived from the same ones as we had that first year with freestyle.

One thing I really loved about that video, was how few true low post players were used in the video. How many of those guys operate mostly out of the high post? Ilgauskas is arguably the best true low post player in that video, and he was only playing defense.

Another thing I'm wondering, is how many of these post moves are given to guards? Guys like Sam Cassell post up more than half the guys in that video.

If by base animations you mean the triple threat stance, yup those look the same. The actual backing down the defence is entirely new. Just the fake-to the-top then spin baseline move that they show STAT doing is a huge step for NBA games, which says a lot more about how badly post play has been neglected. Hell, Live has never even had a simple turn baseline from the backdown move, least not one that worked. And sorry to say it, the 2K series hasn't been that much kinder to Shaq, STAT, and Duncan fans. So far all we've had is guard games, big men need not apply.

It's a good start, but considering it's been over 15 years(almost 20 counting arcade games)since the first 5-on-5 computer basketball game and they are just now getting around to adding a low post game, it could be too little to late for me. And keep in mind, I'm one of the most optimistic EA shills on this board.

Correct. Plus, 2k7 has all of these and then some, smoother as well.

Sat Aug 11, 2007 11:57 pm

the vid looks VERY good. The graphis and moves are a lot smoother, BUT........EA is really smart. I still play live 06 in a league and turst me most of the post moves are possible in live 06. You just need to play it long enough. the fake, step, pumpfake , spin, one dribble and pull up for the hook or fade away. it's all there in live 06. They just made it come forward more with some specific buttons for it. I don't play live 07 so i can't compare it to thatone.

It looks very nice, but keep in mind, they won't show bullshit video footage for promotion. They will pick the best looking moves and graphics.

I´m not overly impressed. the animations look smooth but the movements just don´t seem realistic to me. It´s to early to tell but I have a feeling we´ll be in for a disappointment. Again.
