New NBA Live 08 video on IGN - 6/15

Postby kaat2g on Sat Jun 16, 2007 10:16 am

IGN has posted some new videos of Live 08 and in fact, I'm quite impressed of what the production team has done thus far. Hopefully, it'll be even better in the final product. The link can be found here:

I gotta admit, made a nice first impression on me. They could actually be making something worth our while here. Very interesting!

The player models look a lot better, but it looks a lot like Live 07's gameplay.

its horrible, but i was hoping for a little more improvement over Live 07 NG than that. I know its early, but I defended Live last year by saying "Oh its just early footage".

BTW, wtf is up with the really really dark crowd. That sucks IMO

Videos are Early. .So it's a positive sign. . .The players move WAY better than NBA 2k7, look how the PG goes up the floor with the ball. OH MY. . Look at the Fast Breaks, What can I say, NBA Live is Back. Live still needs post moves!!! But I like What I see

I think it looks pretty poor...

I do see the rebounding logic that they implemented. That doesn't look bad from what I can see. But that's something you would have to play to really know.

But things like Lebron not cutting to the basket on the fast break are simple things that should be implemented. They claim to have all these different scenarios to account for this. Hopefully, things will get better.

All, I can say is stop focusing on making a "FUN" game because once EA makes a "realistic" game, the fun factor will come naturally.

While it's nice to finally have videos (even though it's next-gen and I don't give a crap about it), I gotta admit that it looks like shit. None of the moves look smooth at all, and yeah that Duncan fake shot makes me wonder what EA has been working on all year long...
Ugh, that was ugly :shake:

I expect another piece of crap game from EA. But with great graphics and added features!!!! EA does this every year. In fact the last few years, on PC, they seem to keep getting worse. They always have retarded AI. This must be what its like in the board meetings...

EA programmer... "Ah, sir... we have noticed that teams dont sub at all, when teams are down at the end of the fourth they tend to throw a full court shot that goes out of bounds, sometimes players just stand there as time expires, teams are called for 3 second calls because they set a pick in the paint and just stand there, when we jump for a rebound the controlled player actually floats away from the rebound, players sometimes shoot a layup into the rim or behind the backboard, scrub point guards score more then the superstars on their teams, and when the defence deflects the ball out of bounds its still called out on the offence."

EA Head director... "You better work on those graphics, and adding a new dunk animation first and foremost! We need to advertise those new highflyer moves to get sales!!!!"

Either that or they have the worst AI programmers ever.

I like the little hop that Nash did when he was bringing the ball up, though I'm not sure if he really does it. I also like when he turned his back to the defender and extended his off ball hand. The little things add to realism, but I hope their "gameplay focus" isn't hindered by attention deficit disorder.

The locomotion where the player turns around looks kind of slow. Nash also owned whoever was playing the game on that pic and roll drive, even though the pic was never actually set(it was a moving screen).

I agree that the pump fakes by Marion and Duncan were really horrible. Another thing is that the dunk by Lebron was way too fast, not to mention whoever was playing ran out of bounds when the video cutoff, haha.

On the Cavs fast break I saw Live 07 AI because the wing went to the corner instead of the basket. The AI needs to realize 2 on 1, and 3 on 2 situations in transition and make those basket cuts. Hopefully these things will be improved.

Either there are some control problems, or whoever was playing it isn't on the development team.

The score overlay was boring, imo, but I did like that they were showing player stats often.

EA Sports needs to wake up and have an open beta test for hardcore/loyal fans like us. Especially the articulate ones.

At least they got the TV camera, but Parker getting bumped by Nash reminds me of Live 2004. Too anemic, too bland in my opinion so far, players seem too uninterested once again... I'm also recognizing a lot of animations and sequences that were in cur gen Live 07, that can't be good. And the shot fakes, no need for more complaining about those I guess. I don't know, we'll just have to wait for more to get our hopes up which seems like a pretty impossible task.

That probably is pretty close to the final product, and it does seem better than NBA Live 07 (but that's not saying much at all). The graphics looks sharp (yet it could easily get 25% lighter), but the game play is still pretty damn bad (yes, better than 07, but then again, what isn't?). If this is the kind of changes that they'll make from year to year, we're going to have to wait quite some time until we get some good, realistic game play. But at least they seem to be on the right track. It's just too bad it took so damn long to get there.

just curious, what ever happened to the revolutionary 10-man freestyle from live 2004. Players just stand around chillin like they did in 2003 again.....

Guys, this gameplay looks like the Nba live 07 with Jimmys AIACT patch.
Guess EA is really trying to catch up to us(nba-live.com), and not 2K.
--------------------------
They should just make an emulator to run 2K7/2K8, then i would be an EA fan again. :D

Honestly, this plays like all the NBA Lives with better graphics. They are using pretty much everything they said. The foot planting feature looks nice, I didn't see any sliding. While yes the pump fakes do look choppy, I hope they smooth that out. I can see the passing is better than 2k7, they are not passing the ball towards the other players backs and trying to roll the ball on the ground like in 2k. The transition animations are better than 2k. In 2K when you bring the ball up the floor, when it changes from the 1st animation, it feels your player get pushed into the half court sometimes you get bumped back in the back court!!! Live just needs to work on hook shot, turn around jumpers etc. from the post

Like I said, It plays like previous Lives. And compared to last year's video this looks more playable and much better. In my opinion, my bro was watching it too, and he said it looks fine and we both are Live fans. When we see longer videos and start seein More and more flaws, I guess I'l start bitching. But I can't right now

I don't like those passes at 10000 mph, Tim Duncan in the paint shoots like if he was shooting 18 feet away..
It does not look smooth at all

Early footage? We got the vids a month bfore the gam came out, so of course it was gonna be crap!! Atleast they showing up they are improving the game, maybe not in ways you guys might like, but I definately see a lot of improvement even tho its a 10 second clip
