Injuries should also sometimes have permanent impact on player's abilities.
When progressing with the seasons, there are still commentaries reffering to "last season", which is actually 2006, even if you are in year 2010 for example...
The free agent pool diminshes over the years...
Allow setting fixed, pre-game, defensive match-ups for players or positions on the team.
All-time NBA records, player and team awards should be automatically saved to the dynasty, without the need to push the "Save settings" buttons after each game :\
Allow preventing the assistant head coach from updating roster rotations each time you complete a trade or someone's injured. Also, I'd preffer the old roster editor, with the fixed positions.
Change the scout's inspection ratings for players to rating ranges like 61-70, 71-80, 81-90 and so on, instead of thae A+, A, A- system...
Stats Central in dynasty mode - the minutes per game attribue should be calculated relatively, so if i choose to play a 6 minutes period game and one of my player plays a total of 10 minutes, it would appear on the stats page as 20 minutes (and really, its not that hard to calculate it...)
If you go to another screen and leave the PDA screen, you should return to the PDA messages menu and not to the specific message that you read earlier (or atleast fix that bug with the annoying messages browsing).
Make it possible to take players from the dynasty mode to all the other gameplay modes like 3-point & slam-dunk competitions, individual practice and 1-on-1.
Let your assistant coach to set general team training sessions like you do with individual players.
Playing with rookie players during the off-season 1-on-1 against your star players doesnt give you any info about how good the rookie is and how will he fit in your team. You should make it so: A) you could choose which player from your team the rookie will play against OR B) Match him up against a the weakest player of team which plays in his position.
There aren't many things to do with the dynasty points that you earn. What happened to the team improvements that you could buy in NBA 06?
General Gameplay:
MOST IMPORTANT: the backdown feature. The game is incomplete without it and you can't really box out without it.
Fix the offensive rebounding mechanism so that players would actually jump towards the ball and not run away from it
REMOVE the ability to dunk from players that cannot really dunk and instead force em to use lay ups. Also, get rid of the 'unable to dunk' thing, its just stupid...
Like Titan7x said, ability to save games while in gameplay, between quarters and such.
Remove that annoyance which makes players suddenly stick (or be magnetized) to rival players.
Like someone here already said, a defensive x-factor is also needed.
CPU teams should do subtitutions according to the game situation and to the rival's players, so they won't be mismatched.
Too many times, contesting 3 point shots actually makes the shooter more accurate instead of disrupting him.
Make it clearer with the commentary that there are less than 10 seconds for the quarter/game.
Sometimes, when standing close to your basket and even though you were holding the take charge button for hours, if a rival player comes close to you and stands right next to you, then try to dunk of you, you get called for a defensive foul. Thats pretty messed up...
When a player is pushed out of bounds by rival player (or players) the rival(s) doesn't get called for a defensive foul.
Instant replay doesnt allow watching what happened if you get to it after the buzzed at the end of quarters or after fouls and so.
Allow choosing which Freestyle Super-Star ability the player will start the game with, so you won't need to bother with it at the beggining of each game over and over again.
Add FT%, FG% & 3PT% to the in-game players stat page.
When in the pause menu while in-game, allow returning to the game by hitting the Esc key or the Start button on controllers.
Menus & Others:
Allow choosing of a fixed camera from the game menu (not the in-game menu), which would apply for all game modes, including individual practice and 1-on-1.
Allow changing menu resolutions for the pc game. It just looks too old and pixely...
Ability to skip player introduction (where they step up to the court when its their turn) in 3-point and slam dunk competitions.
Add hard rock, metal or actually, ANYTHING OTHER THAN BLACK MUSIC.
I'm missing Spud Webb, Wilt Chambelain, Dennis Rodman and much more on the legend teams... Also, they need to include legendary dunkers and 3-pointers, like Larry Nance, Larry Bird.
I liked the videos in the main menu, it would be sweet if they could have been combined into the dynasty mode menus as well.

The bulk rating in Live 2000(?) was useful. Right now the body types depend on weight (<180=thin, 181-240=medium and >240=thick)
