It still comes down to whether the features are implemented in the PS2 version. I would suggest that there are some elements that will be exclusive to the Xbox 360/PS3 version aside from the visual elements which is a reflection of the oudated hardware of the previous generation of consoles and the unfortunate situation for those of us who are PC players. Having said that, I don't actually have any info on the PC version at this time so for the moment I can only speculate the same as everyone else.

Again, point taken. But from my point of view its like, what is the point of even releasing the game is there's nothing new, youknow? If thats the case, Live 08 comes out on sunday when you release your roster patch with the new rookies. with the patch coming out when SUM is updated. If there isnt anything new in the gameplay, then we already have better than what they will be selling us 3 months from now. Where is the logic of us even considering the purchase? The 360 and PS3 versions aside, plus the Wii edition (which seems a little gimmicky but time will tell), the now last-gen version of this game has no redeeming qualities that make it worth 40-50 dollars. Regardless of what we don't know, we DO know that the textures will be teh suck. We know that because of when its released, the rosters will (most likely) no longer be current buy the time we get our hands on the game. We also know that because of the older platform the game is based on, all the new things we hope so dearly for are going to either be extremely watered down, or absent entirely. Yes my points are based on speculation, but I think deep down, we all know whats coming down the pipe.

As much as it pains me to imagine it, If theres nothing new coming with the game this year other than a roster pack i had before i bought the game, then IMHO the pc community would be better off without a new edition of live, at least until EA is ready to present us with the better version. Its not to be disrespectful of EA, but look around. Until they show me otherwise, the community did/does/will continue to do better on its own.

The demand is still there, so releasing for the older generation of consoles (and the PC market) meets that demand. Assuming whatever can be ported to the older generation is ported across, issues from last year like the absence of a fatigue effect slider and the substitution bug are resolved and the rosters are updated, it would probably be at least a satisfactory update on the previous year. It would at least meet the demand of releasing a game on those platforms, if not all the specific demands of the game itself.

I suggest that when Live 08 comes out and if we'll find out that it's really is a (badly) patched version of Live 07, than everyone should not buy it and stick with the community's own patched version.
Maybe this way the people in EA will see that we can do without them with regard to the current gen, they won't make the money they expected from the PC version and they will start the port from the XBOX360.

Fri Jul 20, 2007 11:18 am

You know what would be funny, if they kept the same graphics engine and made it Vista only...

an addendum to yosifun's comment, what if, when the game released, we took video from our "chopped and screwed, lol" Live 07 update, and made a public comparison to Live 08 to see how they stood up to each other. If the public chooses our version over EA's then Live 08 get shipped to our homes for free. Whaddya think? :)

@Andrew, there is demand for the game, but due to the last couple of years, especially last year's debacle, the demand is is countered by a very skeptical outlook towards the series and its future in its current state. I'd say there is alot riding on this years live, regarding of platform. and while the next gen releases appear to be (finally) moving in the right direction, I think that releasing more of the same to already frustrated people may cancel out the good work being done. There has to be something they can do to make up for lack of truly new content. Hell I'll take a coupon for a free soda at this point.

I don't disagree, but the unfortunate fact of the matter is that PC users are getting a port from outdated hardware which isn't going to benefit from the same innovations and that won't change until such time as it's ported from the Xbox 360/PS3 version. If they can port some of the Dynasty stuff across from the 360 version this year and eliminate the issues that plagued last year's PC version then I for one will be quite pleased to see that.

Fri Jul 20, 2007 12:00 pm

True, I used to LOVE running my dynasties. now its more work than its worth. For me to be at least appeased by this release, the dynasty mode and sim engine need to get up to snuff, and a mouseover menu must be put back. I swear they sent us back 8 years in pc hardware with the crap they have now. Maybe they operate in an alternate universe that has no knowledge of right mouse buttons and scrollwheels. Please, if any of you EA chaps are reading this, give us a respectable user interface. Everything else we will do if we have to. If not, I'm sending poop in brown plastic bags to your homes and offices. Moose poop. From Jersey. You have been warned.

Fri Jul 20, 2007 12:26 pm

I wouldn't be too concerned about the PC version as long as
1. They don't take out any of the gameplay improvements.
2. They give us a PC specific user interface.
Visuals would be a step down, but that's not really a problem with the patching community we have.

Fri Jul 20, 2007 1:12 pm

There are moose in Jersey...?

Anyway, I'd love a PC-centric interface for once. It's not that hard to do; check Madden 07 on PS2 and then PC. Right-click and scroll wheel implementation make the PC version much more user friendly. C'mon, EA, let your different development teams talk to each other!

That's what I've been doing for quite a while now, I have not bought every release of NBA Live and with some of the ones I bought I waited until they were available at a reduced price.

I wouldnt mind seeing the old-gen based games being sold at a reduced price to start. I would pay 80 for the new stuff is its as good as they say, but for the old stuff i think i bargain price is now a fair accomodation.

Sat Jul 21, 2007 9:37 am

I'm not holding out much hope for a PC specific interface in NBA Live 08. Don't get me wrong, I'd absolutely prefer that but it seems unlikely.

I'm sure it's not that they are unaware of them, it's just another unfortunate by-product of being a port from the PS2 version which doesn't take advantage of that technology. It can't hurt to keep asking, of course. ;)

Again, I don't disagree with the idea but in all fairness, how many companies frequently do that? THQ is still releasing its WWE games for the PS2 and give or take a couple of features they are largely minor updates, yet they still sell at the same price as they did when the PS2 was still open to innovation and noticeable improvements. I know that 2K Sports has done it the last couple of years and Rockstar have released the last two instalments of GTA at a reduced price since they're ports of a PSP game but they're the most noteworthy exceptions and even then, they're not $10 bargain bin prices.

are there any screenshots for pc version yet?

Sun Jul 22, 2007 12:45 pm

No screenshots or info for the PC version have been released as yet.

Sun Jul 22, 2007 5:08 pm

Hope Pc version will have go to moves included, or that will be like last year signature shoots- only for xbox:(, every year we hope for something better and we still can't do nothing. We get what we get- a thiny piece of the cake. I don't like game consoles too much, i remember last year signature shots and they told us it will be integrated in the game but it wasn't, that was a trick:) i bet they will make something similar this year.

Sun Jul 22, 2007 5:41 pm

You shouldnt go through life like this, but for this game, my philosophy goes as follows. Just assume everything will suck. That way, if its bad, you're not surprised. But if Its good, then its a present surprise...lol

I'm thinking I'll make a rental of the xbox game to make my decision on the pc game. If I like the way its playing then I'll take the plunge for the PC version. I'm getting the 360 version regardless, however. I only buy 2-3 games a year for that system, live is already in the budget. 8-)

It wasn't a trick; they simply weren't in the Current Gen version last year. Current Gen did have signature free throws though.

Mon Jul 23, 2007 5:57 am

Yeah it wasn't, my wrong:), can't wait to hear more info about Pc version, some vids and screens., hope everything will be way better then last year, and without bugs.

I don't think anything's new, they're focus is 100% on the "current gen" not the "old gen" - I don't understand next gen and current gen, because now the xbox 360/ps3 are current gen.

2k is only releasing their game on the x360,ps3,and ps2 this year too, so no 2k on PC either.

I agree totally with the whole, next/current point you were making. That's the way I've been thinking of this the whole time. After a year, next gen becomes current gen, and current gen becomes last gen.

No surprise on 2k. I dont think anyone will ever port that over. Too bad though. It would do wonders for the live series to actually have some competition on the PC front. Eas has a monopoly on every major American sports game the pc platform offers. FIFA (not so much), NHL, NBA, NFL, MLB. Really starting to miss the days of TRULY independent publishers...
