Talk about NBA Live 08 here.

I hate to sound like a dope, but I just want to make sure that I get this correct. How do I make sure that the global settings, i.e. the ones with sliders are set to the correct values? There are no numbers for those settings.
You have to count manually backwards or forwards from 50 (The default sliders). Each click is worth one point.
Mon Oct 22, 2007 7:50 pm
I'm stating the obvious of course, but displaying the value alongside the sliders as in the PC/PS2 version would make things a whole lot easier. That could be something for next year's Wishlist; one of those small things that doesn't necessarily come to mind when we're thinking of what we'd like to see.
Tue Oct 23, 2007 2:05 am
can i use these for the ps2 version of the game? i know the thread says next gen, but how about the current gen versions?
or
can someone lead me to a link? when searching for one, i always end up with this thread.
thanks guys

I added the following 5 players to the file and can send them out by email request:
Glen Davis-Boston
Penny Hardaway-Miami
Louis Scola-Houston
Juan Carlos Navarro-Memphis
Yi Jianlian-Milwaukee
These are the only guy's IMO that was worth creating.
I'll be doing some further testing on PG's as I noticed there's a Template you can select with Steve Nash being a traditional PG and Tony Parker being a scoring PG. Since I'm not sure what Template EA assigned most of the PG's I'm going to test a few by switching their Template to Traditional PG and keeping their same ratings I've already assigned for Shooting Mentality and Go To Guy and see where that leaves me. I'm hoping since Tradional PG means a guy that looks to pass first and score second will be something that actually works out even more to help the file.
Tue Oct 23, 2007 7:10 pm
Here's the PG's I've modified some more since the file. Not everyone was edited just the PG's that I found disrupted their team offense the most during game play.
These changes should help if you were still seeing the issues on the 2nd file that was released.
I'll post each rating and the exact figures that I'm using to get good results out of for the PG's......also keep in mind the way you play defense will factor in aswell as I provide them some space and don't play up too close.

You could try, but you'll probably find them unsuitable since the PS2 version is very different. I'm sure in time, some PC/PS2 sliders will be posted.

Which New Orleans Point guard was that, Playmakers?

My bad it was Pargo I left his name out. Paul is just fine he's very balanced in this game as he'll look to score mostly if your just playing bad defense vs him. I didn't see anything wrong with Paul's game as i think EA nailed him perfect in terms of balance (Shooting/Passing).
I don't think the PG play can be any better than the recent updates I made to those posted. They definetly don't go crazy using those settings as they only look to shoot often when you crowd up on them especially Devin Harris. He'll blow right by you if try to play up close and to be honest i don't see anything wrong with that because that's Harris game.
I reduced the outside shooting tendencies to allow people to back off of the PG's and then they'll start the offense more, there is still a slight chance some of them will still pull up and take the open shot though depending on how there other options in the play are being defended.

Finally can start my season now after adding the final tweaks to the Sliders, PG's and roster additions.
I think the biggest difference after all the edits is going to be seen on the defensive end. Not all teams will play very good defense but there will be quite a few using the roster file and sliders together that will take away driving lanes forcing you to swing the ball a little more for open shots.
It's no longer a dunk fest either as you'll see more layups in traffic than ever before....In fact the CPU especially on Super Star Level is going to be very capable of running you out the gym if you take poor shots and don't set your defensive strategy to have your team to get back on defense. Shot's won't be automatic using these sliders as they were using the default settings.
I absolutely love the HOT spots now, because I can't make the same shots with Jerry Stackhouse as I could with Dirk Nowitzki. The defense closes out pretty good and they don't bite on B.S. pump fakes anymore. The best way to utilize out side shooters is to know how to rub them off screens and come off screens. They (CPU) double more even on the perimeter and they switch up between man and zone on Super Star level more frequently. I mixed in some trap defenses now in some teams playbooks and occasionally you'll dribble towards the sideline and they'll jump you as soon as you come accross half court.
I had to speed the game back up to 25 because it helps the defense get to you quicker and it also makes the CPU more quicker when running their plays. In some cases they'll have you scrambling on defense if like to switch off on everything. I boosted up the layup % slider back to 60 because one thing i started to notice is that when you have it lower you get players shooting layups that hit iron and miss way too often. With the layup slider higher it makes layups by CPU look much better even though they'll make a few shots that'll make you mad I'll take that trade off as opposed to seeing guy's hit the front of the rim or side of the backboards when they wide open. It's kinda cheesy but hey it actually helps to take away the stupid looking shots by the CPU.
Some nice passes can be seen by the CPU much more often now aswell simply because of the passing ratings being raised. Players can now throw bounce passes and hit players in stride which is basic basketball but EA's terrible passing ratings didn't allow that right out the box and there's some animations that some of you might not have realized was in the game because of the poor passing ratings.
The one thing I wanted to do was to get rid of the floaty passes but unfornately the only way to take it away is to play on a higher speed level. Believe it or not if you jack up the speed close to 100 you'll see more passes with zip on it and less floaty passes especially if the players have increased passing ratings.

You put de user shots all in 35. Don't you think that is too low? I found too much shots tried.
Have you updated the rosters withe Juan Carlos Navarro on grizzlies, etc ,etc?
thanks

Yes, Navarro is on Memphis.
The trade today between Boston and Minnesota isn't on the file. I'll post my depth charts and any playbook changes regarding those two teams later.
As for shooting it's not really that difficult for Human once you figure out who your shooter's are and play to their strength's/HOT SPOT's.
After awhile you get the hang of shooting down and you'll have some games where it seems like you can't hit anything but that's very rare. Taking smart shots with the right guy's should get in the 42-45% range consistently depending on shot selection of course.

Thanks TechDaddy for helping out once again with the file!
It's not going to be perfect but hopefully it can help a few people see some parts of game play that can be a bit different if they are willing to tweak the game to a certain extent.

It's for the NBA Live community Andrew, I don't have a problem sharing the ratings information.

You have turn auto replay off, but yet they still showing replays lol!!!
Fri Oct 26, 2007 3:03 pm
Anyone have a list of the ratings for Live 08 legends players?
If so can you forward it to me if it's not too much trouble, I'm wanting to create the legends players for the 360 version since EA left them out once again this year.
Thanks in advance!

Ok here's a depth chart listing for you guy's.
It might be handy if you want to keep players in their correct posistion when you start your dynasty. It still has some of the free-agents like Webber and Payton on their original teams. On the file they are free-agents and i'm personally waiting the last minute to see if they get signed by someone if not I'm going to place them on theri old teams roster in the bench roll listed.
Eastern Conference
http://www.nba.com/fantasy/depthcharts_ec2.html
Western Conference
http://www.nba.com/fantasy/depthcharts_wc2.html
I would go through the rosters and use the primary/secondary posistion listed in this link for most players. If you change lineups the rosters will re-set and have guy's in crazy order. You can utilize this link to set the depth charts of any teams you like because my depth charts were arranged a little different.
I'll post this on the Front Page after a few days so if anyone wants to refer to it they can, I also have links under each teams Playbook that has depth charts by NBA.com based on NBA Live 08 rosters.
A couple of moves that were made recently and how they pertain to the file.
Memphis plans to start Damon Stoudamire at PG, I had him coming off the bench.
LA Clippers released Yaroslav Korolev, I would add Josh Powell to their roster he is on the free-agent list as they were over roster limit in the game.
Boston released Dahntay Jones
Denver is thinking of starting Chucky Atkins at PG moving AI over to SG. I didn't go that route i wanted the ball in AI's hands.
If you have any questions about playbooks you want to change and just need a little help let me know I'll try to help out. There's some defensive playbooks I assigned already to each team. I'll post those playbooks in the slider/playbook thread sometime over the weekend.

Amazing Rosters and Sliders. Really makes a huge difference in the game. Some of the ratings for players are still bad, but I managed to edit those to my liking. (Hughes 85, Lee 68, etc.)
Great job, it really makes Live 08 worth playing!
