Yes, that was another strong indication of there being a PC version. :)

anyone played virtua tennis 3 on pc? they have mocing jerseys, dramatic lighting. much closer to next gen than any other game. so i think we pc actually do have a possibility of supporting semi next gen graphics

Wed Jun 06, 2007 12:41 am

We've already covered that a few times in this thread alone. The question is not whether a PC can support a port of a Next Gen game but rather will the PC version of NBA Live be ported from the Next Gen version at some point. Just because one company decides to do it does not mean another company will.

PC may be a market that EA has a monopoly on when it comes to basketball games but it's also the smallest corner of the market and hence the least profitable. Therefore it is not the corner of the market that receives the most attention because that's not where a majority of the revenue is coming from and it's not where the competition exists to take revenue away. It's a shame for those of us who have always preferred the PC version but the unfortunate reality is that a game developer needs a sound business plan as much as they need to be innovative and deliver when it comes to their product, and catering to the smallest demographic wouldn't be a sound strategy.

So once again, hopefully once Current Gen is phased out EA will look at the PC sales and decide that there's still a market for that platform and port the Xbox 360/PS3 version across. But as long as the Current Gen consoles are still being utilised and the PC is a port from those platforms, it's going to suffer from the same restrictions, even if it shouldn't really be bound by them.

I like how you said that instead of if.

I'd hope not, after all the drama and negative press last year.

Ya I doubt it will be as bad I mean we almost destroyed them last year lol. You can only imagine if it happened again.

I wish they would upgrade the graphics some I mean it has looked the same for 3 years (05 06 and now 07 will we go on 4?) I don't really care about the crowd being cardboard cut outs I just hate that they are blurry. I mean look at Live 2000 the crowd is 10x's better and that game came out in '99.

Will EA update the graphics to next-gen graphics in live 08? I'm too cheap to buy an xbox, so this is my only hope to get the graphics of next-gen.

Good chance it'll be only a slight step ahead of Live 07 for the PC. To have Live 08 with next-gen graphics would require users to have the latest hardware for the PC just to probably even run it steadily, it'd definitely alienate most of the PC users who haven't bothered updating their PC's. Besides, with the patchers that this community has, we don't need next gen graphics. (y)

True.

I really do hope this game gets a better gameplay and improved physics..

In my opinion the market will still be there given the amount of people who still seem to prefer the PC version. It's a matter of whether or not EA will still see it as a worthwhile corner of the market; hopefully they do. Even though I've got a 360, I'd still prefer a port to the PC.

if there's no PC game it's safe to say that i won't be playing Live any time soon. Not a fan of the console...besides i'd actually have to buy one (which of course will be obsolete in 5yrs). Unless of course the game is THAT good!

They probably don't see the PC market has being profitable. NBA Live has already established a longtime following on the PC thus the games continued to be released on that platform.

Frankly i don't into buy all this talk about pc game dying, that isn't happening, the market is changing but pc gaming is still alive and kicking.

The thing is most pc gamers won't buy mediocre teen games ala easports, that kind of crap isn't welcome in pc gaming. If you want to sell in the pc gaming market you must put out a quality product as the competition is tough. Who would want to play 30 bucks for nba live 07 when you have games like half life 2, medieval total war 2 or oblivion at the same price. The pro evolution soccer series is selling very well in the pc gaming platform because they are putting a quality product, hell even fifa has good graphics and a decent gameplay. Pc gamers are really out of luck with bball games, I don't think it will change anytime soon but it has nothing to do with the state of pc gaming.

And frankly, right now I don't get how any serious baskteball fan can have any hope on an upcoming nba live game, I mean that game isn't even good on next gen systems.

I agree, as a platform PC gaming is still thriving. However, representatives from EA Sports themselves have confirmed that the focus is not on the PC market and while I agree that there's no need for immediate alarm, one can't help but speculate on what the future holds for a game that is ported from a platform that is expected to be phased out in the next few years.

Anyone who wants a PC basketball game, which needless to say is something those other games do not provide. Certainly for the casual user they're more likely to choose the superior game but for the person who wants to play a basketball video game those other titles don't really come into the equation. Again, we're not talking about the state of PC gaming in general, simply the PC sales of NBA Live and EA's focus in developing the series.

photek wrote:And frankly, right now I don't get how any serious baskteball fan can have any hope on an upcoming nba live game, I mean that game isn't even good on next gen systems.

I don't think hoping NBA Live 08 will show an improvement is any indication of whether someone is a serious basketball fan or not. At the end of the day it's the only option PC gamers have as far as NBA games are concerned so naturally we're going to hope for the best. Is that setting ourselves up for disappointment? That's certainly possible, some would say probable. But I think anyone who wants to see those improvements has to be a serious basketball fan, else they'd be satisfied with the product no questions asked.

Fri Jun 08, 2007 8:13 pm

Keep in mind that a lot of influential people in the computer industry are trying to change the perception of PCs as a gaming platform. Look at the "Games For Windows" promotion, and the press releases touting Vista as a "gamers" operating system.
How well game makers respond to this remains to be seen, but Microsoft, Intel, ATI, Nvidia, and the rest finally realise that gaming sells their products more than any other aplications do.
Sadly NBA games are so low on the totem pole, that we'll be the last to see any benefit from this change in attitude.

By the way I heard you have an xbox 360, what about making a roster update for nba 2k, It could be awesome.

Did you enjoy that game?

Sun Jun 10, 2007 4:54 pm

I don't own NBA 2K on the Xbox 360 and I have no plans to buy it, so I won't be doing any updates for the 2K series. Of course, I don't do any updates for the console version of NBA Live either.

Andrew,

I'm a long time Live fan as I'm sure many are. Far be it for me to say what you should do....but please stay true to what this site has been about.....NBA Live. I know we've all been taken out behind the woodshed the last few year and our money stolen from us with a terrible product. But I have faith that they will turn out around one of these years. I originally got attracted to this site because of the NBA Live info, not because this was an all encompassing site for nba games. No 2K crap here!

Tue Jun 12, 2007 11:35 pm

Well Andrew has been here longer than any of us so I believe he's doing nothing wrong here. He just mentioned "2K" because the post above his asked about a "2K roster update".

Wed Jun 13, 2007 2:10 am

would you guys be willing to wait 2-5 years without an nba live game update for pc if they said the next one will be in next gen?

Well as I said, I have no plans to provide any roster updates or coverage of the 2K series 2K discussion is welcome in the Video Games Central section of course but that's the only facility that we provide for that series. Believe me, I'm not interested in taking the NLSC in any other direction, though we do a bit of NBA Street coverage from time to time.

I'd be disappointed to say the least but since I've got a 360 I'd make the transition. I would still prefer a PC version though and if it came to that I would hope they'd continue development in the PC market at some point (though I'd hope it wouldn't be as long as 5 years between releases).

2KSports should join with EA to make the best game ever!!!

Thu Jun 14, 2007 11:15 am

NBA Live sucks, it is the worst basketball game ever.

NBA 2k7 kills it and 2kSports is much better than EA.

If 2kSports and EA combined that is only way that we can have a perfect game.
