How Can Live 08 Improve

Sun Apr 22, 2007 9:09 am

I wanna know how Live 08 can improve in your opinion? My list is on the topic don't get your hopes up.

The Wishlist Supplement pretty much covers my thoughts on the matter.

In my opinion the biggest problems have for three years now lied in ball physics, player animations interacting with each other and the inability to keep scores realistic, plus the fact that the teams and players still do not resemble their real-life counterparts' styles enough.

I agree, that's definitely what should have been improved last year or two years ago, so hopefully we'll get there with '08.

my opinion is that they should make some new animations like moving jerseys hair and whatsoever even if they will still use the recent body types of the players as long as its is like the graphics in xbox 360 and they still need to make a major fix on the real life moves of each players so that this would be the next best game ever in pc

one thing that makes it a lot degraded as titles flow, in is that they tend to get a sense fiction on the game itself: ie.. creating unrealistic dunks and lightings, they tend to invent the series on a whole new unrealistic approach.. that makes it feel away from the real NBA game which most of us are having our likes with... Sportsgames with real life counterparts should not be created into a fantasy,.. IMO

You must remember that EA isn't making an "NBA sim." They look at it as a video game, something that 2 friends can enjoy while they are competing against each other. I'm sure they try to make it as realistic and fun as possible at the same time. The problem is, it should be an NBA sim, and not more of an arcade game. They have NBA Street for that arcade type of basketball.

To add on what you said Tuomas, I think another big problem is the comeback code/ai. I didn't experience it that much this year, but the last game I played just showed me how bad it is. Also from learning about the assignment file in the aiact, I've noticed what look like typo's with some of the names of the ai routines. I can live with a few bad animations/clipping if the gameplay is superb. Of course, we pay money for this game and shouldn't have to live with them.

How can 08 improve? Pretty much by releasing it so we don't have to play 07 anymore.

Can EA at least put a decent mix of player physics and animations?

Maybe we'd need a AGEIA PhysX processor to fully enjoy them...
Seriously, that would be nice to have some impovements on that level.

 I agree with that 101%

I can live with a not so great graphics as long as the gameplay and the simulation is realistic.

A little bit off topic. Why cant EA contact some of the great patchers here? I mean NLSC patchers are doing CF, courts etc for free. If EA would just contact them, and pay them a half a dollar per CF (just an example), give them mugshots of the players then they can include it in Live release.

There are rumors, that EA will add the option to play from the possision of the Owner in Dynasty mode!Something im wishing for from Live 2004!!!

i would like to see more games modes like in other EA Games
For example- Have an NBA Superstar like madden where you can play the role as a Pro through his carear also should skills contest and what not from all star weekend. and Showing the play of the half and the play of the games would be cool like in Macrh Madness 08

xox, there may be some truth to that. There are unused dbf files in 07 that point to an owner mode similar to MVP Baseball 2005. Custom arena, abbreviated with cusarena.dbf and Custom uniform, abbreviated as cusunis.dbf. I bet they wanted to get it into 07 but didn't have enough time to finish.

those dbf's have been in the game since Live 2004, sorry to burst any glimmers of hope.

I think that's certainly a big part of the problem, appealing to the casual gamer while satisfying the hardcore fans who crave sim features and finding the right balance. NBA Live 2003 is a good example of that balance being unsuitable for those of us who find fun in realism; the exaggerated blocked shots with booming sound effects, the ease of scoring and the silliness in the cutscenes wouldn't bother someone looking for a high speed, action packed basketball game.

The thing is, they do need to appeal to the casual gamer and ideally that could be accomplished through the sliders. A couple of additional automatic slider settings might come in handy as they would provide an alternative that's in between Sim and Arcade; perhaps an "Action" or "Up-Tempo" setting that maintains some level of realism but plays a little faster with higher scoring.

i really wish they fix up the simulated stats for dynasty mode

put in ppg, apg, rpg and stuff like that instead of totals

seriously whocares about totals, i want to know what my player is averaging per game

also a career avg for each statistical category would be awesome as well especially if you created your own player

Thu Apr 26, 2007 5:34 pm

I'd say a lot of people do care about totals; ideally we should be able to view season and career totals and averages as we once could. The more stats screens the better, especially when it comes time to making Dynasty threads.

Definately.

I like the stats a la Live 98, 99, and 2000.

I don't remember which one had the most, i think it was 99.

it can improve by trying to make it a basketball simulator and not a pile of crap
