Live 08 Crashes. Happened Again (outta nowhere!!!)

Mon Jun 23, 2008 2:11 am

So here's the thing. I've been reading some topics here; because I encountered a codebase error first time I tried to start a Dynasty.

Started out typical; I load my rosters file, I went to Game Modes, Dynasty Mode, New, then when asked if I was sure and that I should save my rosters yadayada, I clicked Proceed. I got a codebase error right after that. It was the

Error #: -70
Error#: 91102
Reading File
dFile4 ...()
APPEARANCE

followed by

Error#: -935
Error#: 94001
Null Input Parameter unexpected d4field

The solution/s suggested were to either delete originaldb (I deleted all three: working, current, original, to be sooo sure), or reinstall the game. First one didn't work so I had to reinstall the game. I still got that error. So I just made a new save file again; redid the rosters and all that. So I go try it. I managed to get through the "Proceed" screen, I was joyous to hear Marv Albert babble on about Dynasty Mode, I picked my team, arranged the Dynasty settings, then BAM, another code base error. Kind of like the first one...but this time, I got

Error #: -70
Error#: 91102
Reading File
dfile4...()
C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\ADMIN\MY DOCUMENTS\NBA LIVE 08\DATABASE\WORKINGDB\PLAYERS.DBF

followed by the same

Error#: -935
Error#: 94001
Null Input Parameter Unexpected d4field

btw, with regards to my roster. I used Albys' Real Rosters v5, added my own created player, added a few players from the NLSC update not on the RR roster update, and added the Philippine National Team from the NBA 2008 mod.

Does anyone have an idea what I'm doing wrong? Or does the universe just not want me to play? :( Help would be greatly appreciated; I want to play Dynasty so badly.

The second error message indicates a problem with the players.dbf file in workingdb. Usually it's just a case of deleting the files in that folder so that the game can refresh them. However, it sounds like the problem might have happened as a result of your editing.

Yeah; it's what I was thinking too...Oh! I also made my created player part of the regular roster, I read Spree#8's post about doing so. I just wanted to give my CAP my own portrait...but I don't have a cyberface (because I know that even if I try to do it, I'd fail miserably). Do I really need a cyberface, or did I miss something, or do you think that's not the problem?

Mon Jun 23, 2008 6:25 am

You don't need a cyberface. Just skip the steps concerning appearance.dbf if you just want to assign a custom portrait.

Weird. I made a new save file, did everything all over again, and now, whatever step I take, I keep starting up NBA Live and starting a New Dynasty to see if it'll work. Everything worked! It's like nothing's ever been wrong. Weirded out but hey, as long as the stuff works, right?

Thanks so much though sir Andrew. :D

You're welcome, glad to hear it's all sorted.

are there any possible ways to fix this problem? I cant play with the dynasty mode.

Sat Jul 05, 2008 5:29 pm

AFter doing trial on errors. I was able to fix the problem...

teddyboy09, To prevent the error. you must avoid to much players in a team. Limit your team players into 0 not into -1.

Sun Jul 06, 2008 1:23 am

^That's weird; I know I made sure every team has 15 players at most before doing anything. Huh; well, I probably missed a team or something...at least you were able to find out the root of the problem though, I (and others) can be able to determine what the problem is when this happens (again; for me). Thanks for the info, 'tado (I mean that in a good way ah ;) )!

teddyboy09, try checking it again maybe you just missed some team. It really works now I'm playing the dynasty mode.

Okay. The first problem happened again. Right outta nowhere!

I load up Dynasty (last time I played - with no problems, even - was the night before), and then I get the error message I mentioned before:

Error #: -70
Error#: 91102
Reading File
dFile4 ...()
APPEARANCE

followed by

Error#: -935
Error#: 94001
Null Input Parameter unexpected
d4field

And I was like, "wtf?" Because I absolutely did nothing with the files; all I did the morning after was make another jersey for the Suns (which had nothing to do with the dynasty), then try some of master CHNxiaoju's Olympic shoes out (didn't replace every shoe with this patch; just replaced existing ones I didn't like with some of the new ones I like). All was well. Then I load up my Dynasty file, BAM. That damn error again.

I load up my regular rosters file (also untouched; last thing I did with it was update the roster with recent trades/signings the night before) as I started up Live again, and noticed there was one other player on the Hawks. No name, no rating. Just something taking up a roster space. I try to View-Player him, BAM. Same error message. Tried Edit-Playering him, BAM. Same error message. I thought this would be the link (though idk how, I just tested it out) as to why it's crashing. I search the players.dbf for such a player who is A: on the Hawks, B: a Center aside from Zaza and Horford, and C: some Hawk with the roster position of 0/1 (he's a C but he's starting at PF next to Horford). Doesn't check out! Both my roster file and Dynasty file doesn't have such a guy.

I managed to play Dynasty just the night before, I have been for weeks now (16-2, even). I would have understood if the game crashed whenever I edit dbfs (I do other-team trades there to sort of update the rosters as to real-life ones) but it doesn't crash then; it crashed when I was doing nothing...extraordinary.

So could it be my rosters file? My Dynasty file? My rosters and Dynasty files? The game itself (meaning do I have to reinstall this mother yet again)? Or the game itself, and the save files? How in the world could this have possible happened anyway? I'm just a mix of weirded out, angry, annoyed, and about to cry about it. :? :| :-(

Hopefully someone can help. :D

It could still be the result of your DBF editing but as you noted it's more common for those problems to occur immediately. Try deleting the files in the workingdb folder though.

Sun Aug 17, 2008 3:18 pm

Tried deleting the workingdb; actually tried deleting all 3 dbs...still no go. :(

You may have a point with the error still being a result of the editing; I don't know how it could happen but it could be possible. I thought something went wrong with my appearance.dbf (although I haven't touched it for a while), but I checked and nothing seemed wrong; I mean, every player in the dbf has its corresponding entry in appearance.dbf (although I'm pretty sure I'm still missing something). Because that seemed to be the problem before; when I got those error messages, it was because a new player I added didn't have an entry in appearance.dbf. :D

I'll try to see later if reinstalling it would work. :D

Sun Aug 17, 2008 4:55 pm

Are there any players with duplicate ID numbers or ROSTERPOS values? It could be something small like that.

Sun Aug 17, 2008 6:48 pm

Hm, I don't think so; I'll check, though, but I don't know if anything's been duplicated. It's something worth checking, though. Thanks!

I have once encountered a codebase error in my 07, I dont know why that happen, I tried using Andrew's suggest of deleting the database folder. But when I tried replacing it with the default database it fix mine. Maybe try to replace it with default one.
