Oklahoma City THUNDER, not the Barons(how gay)

Okay, first off, I know they're going to be called Thunder. So any argument below is just a mini-rant on the OKC organization.

Personally, "Barons" sounds classy. Plus it gives the OKC players an actual name for themselves.

"Hi I'm Kevin Durant and I'm a Baron"

see? Sounds neat.

what about

"Hi I'm Kevin Durant and I'm....a.....Thunder God (I'm not Thor)? Thunder Man(?!)?"

Sounds weird. Just like being a member of the Heat. What would Dwyane Wade be? A Heat Man (sounds like Hitman, only lame lol)? A Heater? At least "Jazz Man" for Utah Jazz players really makes sense. Thunder?!

Yeah, Outlaws would definitely have been better. Tornadoes, it's okay. I would have preferred the classy Barons or the nifty Outlaws. :D

Anyway, regarding the jerseys. brother karposter. It's really up to you if you'd want to release the jerseys (they look totally sweeeeeet, btw!). Personally I really would love to have that concept jersey in my game, but it's ultimately up to you, of course.

But I just think you should just put it up as an alternate home and away jersey, not overwrite the regular Sonics ones. Again, the OKC team did choose crappy Thunder as their name, so they really would make a different official jersey. The Barons Concepts would be better off as extra jerseys. My opinion. :D

Where is this info coming from? Do you have an official source to quote that? Thunder hasn't been chosen as a name yet. Nothing has been officially released. The NBA fixed the links to the pages. Now whether or not somebody leaked or they're just idiots remains to be seen.

As far as the jerseys are concerned, I do love the way they look, no matter if the name says Thunder or not. If someone were to make and release these, I'd use them. They look bad ass!

I respect your opinion, but when I think of basketball, a classy mascot would give off a weak vibe for your team.

I'm not sold on Thunder, like I said Outlaws or Tornadoes would make more since out here being I'm the only one on this board who would know(I moved from Connecticut in 2003 but I don't forget where I came from which is why I haven't changed it). But I still would have it be the Thunder, which does get rough out here because of all the tornadoes we do have out in the country, than the Barons. Really, wtf is a Baron? Nothing around here screams Baron. Besides why should we have a team named after a current NBA player?(and don't even mention Magic Johnson) What if by some crazy twist of fate(or contracts) he gets traded at some point to the OKC Barons, how awkward would that be?

I like mascots that strike some sort of fear into other teams. OKC Thunder does more than the Barons, or for that matter, the Marshalls, the Bison, the Energy(which still would be cool for a WNBA team), or the Wind(are you serious??? get real...).

Personally, I think the NBA should get rid of all weak mascots such as the Clippers, the Pacers, the Knickerbockers, the Nuggets, and the Nets. Then give the Jazz back to where it belongs, in New Orleans!!!

Just my opinion, but I definitely respect yours. Peace

I actually don't know which Baron they meant. :D But whether it's Baron as in The Red Baron (flying ace?) or Baron as in nobelman. Yeah it does sound weak for an NBA team. But I was going for what name would go well with Oklahoma City, you know? Barons just fits name-wise.

And it's just a name; I mean, Clippers, Lakers (though I'm a fan of the Lakers, even with Minneapolis that name sounded lame), Magic...Barons would sound classy. doesn't have to strike fear, in my opinion; I mean, you have the New York Knickerbockers. Who'd be afraid of underwear?

But I was just picking the best name from the list. I prefer Barons. I know OKC has tough weather; and even then I'd prefer Tornadoes over Thunder. Tornadoes sounds even more dangerous. :D Thunder...it's just a sound. lightning is frightening (hey that almost rhymed), but thunder...idk. I just deemed Thunder "crappy" because compared to the other suggestions, Thunder isn't on my Top 3.

Barons, Outlaws, Tornadoes, Marshalls (misspelled wtf)...imo they all sound cool. As for mascots, well, other NBA teams who do have mascots have weird mascots. I mean, the Suns have a gorilla. Not a Sun, or a Cactus (Shaq doesn't count)...a gorilla. Bah. anyway, thanks for undertsanding that it was my opinion; I do get your point too.

Anyway, an upside to Thunder being the name...they can always use Thor as a mascot (Zeus is awesome and all, but Thor is Marvel. :D)

Anyway, brother karposter. What kind of dbf editing are we talking about here? You need help with choosing primary/secondary colors? Because personally I am not that choosy with the colors. Whenever I make a new jersey I copy an existing record from an existing jersey whose colors would, I think, be nearest to what I prefer, change the ID and the code, and leave the colors alone.

For example, I made a fictional alternate purple jersey for the Hornets, I copied their existing jersey - classic 1997 away, which is purple - changed the ID number, and voila! Lazy Bastard gets a new jersey!

So yeah. Colors, I can probably lend a hand if you like that method. Everything else, I can say that I just copy existing records. I've made tons of fictional alternates for a number of teams and I get to use them in the game...

Not quite...I'm a born and raised Okie, 30 minutes from downtown OKC. So don't go spouting off on something you're absolutely sure of. You're not the only one who would know, I spent many summers chasing tornadoes not far from home.

You've obviously never heard of the term Oil Baron.

Oil Baron
Main Entry: oil baron
Part of Speech: n
Definition: a powerful person in the oil industry
*quoted from dictionary.com

Since you've been living in Oklahoma for 5 years I'm sure you've heard of T. Boone Pickens, the guy that's given $400 million dollars to Oklahoma State University. He is a prime example of an oil baron. Oil was the main reason for Oklahoma's existence at the turn of the 20th century. In fact, it was a big part of the economy until the 70's. Want proof? There's a damn working oil derrick in front of the State Capitol building! Kerr-McGee had its headquarters in Oklahoma until 2006, when the company was bought out. There's plenty of things around that point out where the name Barons comes from, you just have to look.

* karposter you can have your thread back. Sorry for the hijack! :)

Well it's good to know I'm not the only NBA Live fan in this state :) I've been inundated with football ever since I got here! LOL!

Yeah I know about all that, but there's a lot of people who don't so the name would be meaningless to a lot of people and an irrelevant mascot in the eyes of most avid sports fans.

Plus given our current times and gas prices, to have 15 Barons in one place would make since if this was going to be a basketball team in Saudi Arabia :)

So, the OKC "Barons" would only make me think of Baron Davis who is a Clipper...

clipper // n.
1 (usu. in pl.) any of various instruments for clipping hair, fingernails, hedges, etc.
2 a fast sailing ship, esp. one with raking bows and masts.
3 a fast horse.

Another stupid mascot. I could live with Thunder literally and figuratively :)

So, which mascot are you sold on?

pHiL :) Your post cracked me up. I too was hoping there was at least one more person from Oklahoma on here. Thanks for not proving me wrong. Football is absolutely huge in Oklahoma as you can tell. From little league all the way up to OSU, OU, Tulsa, and the Dallas Cowboys, it's definitely a way of life down here. I get what you're talking about with the Barons though. As far as a mascot/nickname I'm sold on? I do like the Barons name still, but if the team was to use the logos and jerseys posted above I would be more than happy with Thunder. It's unique and its not a damn ferocious predatory animal. Wind should be kicked to the curb, along with Marshals. Outlaws would be nice, as long as the jersey/color/mascot theme went well together.
