i can't seem to dribble when i'm in a triple threat position like in NBA Live 06....has that been taken out of the game or am i just lost?

As long as you catch the ball in the triple threat position you can commence dribbling, same as in previous games. If you pick up your dribble you won't be able to resume dribbling unless you perform a Freestyle fake first and of course it will be called a violation unless you've disabled the Traveling rule (which in the game also covers double dribbling).
