Direct connecting online?

I tried playing a game last night with a guy I met and I couldn't join his game.

The nbalive08.exe was an exception in my Windows Firewall. Do specific ports need to be open on my router? I didn't think this was an issue if I was connecting to him.

Not sure what else could be my problem.
