Hotspots

I dont know whether there has been a topic on this but, hotspots seem to be accessible during the gameplay. I tried searching but could only find a Ps2 debate of whether hotspots are in the game or not.
Basically I hold down the "Crossover" button and the hotspots for the current player is displayed. But this is weird since I cannot perform the crossover move. And correct me if im wrong but when the reciever gets a pass...they cannot do the freestyle moves anymore since holding down the crossover button would display the hotspots, rather than the player executing the moves. Just tapping the button executes the spins moves etc. but I dont have total control over it.
What am I doing wrong?

If you're using a dual analog gamepad, crossovers can be performed with the right analog stick.
