shooting in nba live 08, no skill?

wtf happened to the shooting button?
there is no timing of the release button at all now?

wtf??

its like they turned this basketball game into a basketball game for babies?

im shocked.

tell me there is a way to turn that stupid feature off!

just when i thought they did this one right and they do this stuff to us again!

its like it is their policy to create a game that takes two steps forward, and take 5 steps backward!

You have to get open to make shots, that's one thing I like more than 2k. In 2k it doesn't matter if you contest a shot it doesn't affect the percentage if the timing is good.

I don't notice though, it doesn't affect me, but it's not stipid because you can't chuck it up from anywhere, you need to execute offense to get open shots.

This is like NBA LIVE, on Rookie mode.
Because even in Rookie mode, you have to get open to make shots but you never had to do a timing on it.

You need to play it, it really doesn't take anything away from the game itself.

That is one thing I liked after you hot a few it was like like you got in a rhythm. As stupid as it sounds but really sometimes you just couldn't hold down the button the correct length of time. Just like in real life when you just cant make anything at times. Is it like this in all versions? Last year they took away the ability to walk and dribble up the court slow is that still gone also?

For those with the game already,

How does the shoot thing work then? If you hold the shoot button, the guy doesn't release? Or is it that you hold the shoot button and the dude releases at the top of his jump? That's so gay.

yeah its real gay that the guy shoots at the top of his jumper since that's how a person is supposed to shoot...

The player release the shot when you stop holding th shoot buttong. Same as every year. Go to Moves too. if you hold the shoot buttont oo long, kobe will release his shot when his feet almost touch the floor.

so kobe would hold shot until his feet would land and the shot would still go in? is that realistic?

Cool2Fool, not for the 360. Seriously, goto the practice gym and hold the shoot button, then just go around grabbing balls. They will shoot and release the shot at the ideal time.

he said ALMOST. if he jumps to shoot and lands with the ball still in his hands it's called traveling....

Hmmm...maybe its just me but there really isn't an existing "shot control" in NBA Live 08 for the PS3 (I'm not sure with the other consoles). You either fake which is executed by tapping the shoot button or pressing and holding the shoot button to...well shoot!.

There is no release or timing involved in shooting this time around. You can hold the shoot button all you want and the player animation will shoot at the peak of his jump or whatever position the player is in in making the shot (like fadeaways). So its like automatic.

Of course being open and player ratings comes into play. You won't make shots when you're contested.

It feels weird if you got used to controlling the release--I mean the whole lot of us players were....However, there was an option in previous NBA Live's where you can toggle between human shot control and AI shot control. I guess EA just eliminated that option all together. :?

You completely missed the point. If I wanted the retarded game to shoot for me, I'd put it on CPU vs. CPU. I want to be able to release it later than normal if some big fucker is jumping to block my shot.

Man, that's what I was afraid of. Complete lack of control of the shot. I always felt that basketball sims have too much control in "deciding" if a shot is going to go in or not. Now, it's even more obvious that this is so.

You guys apparently haven't been paying much attention... This was told in advance that they removed the "player" portion from shooting... Just to get the HOT ZONE's to play out correctly... Now, the hot zones control more of the shooting, essentially probably the same part that was done by the player in previous versions.

Its a feature... Though, I'm probably going to miss it, but still for the relativity of the hot zones, this is a must...

C'mon... Read up the stuff on the game before you go out right and start bashing it.

just on next gen. It seems that goto moves and sig shots may not sync as well with early or late releases, but the "skill" needed to release at the right time is still there.

what is the point of having a cpu control the shot for me?

does that mean there is no travelling?

sometimes, having that control of when to release the jumpshot is what makes the game more realistic.

for instance, if the time is running down, and the guy is all over me, i pass to open guy, and he shoots. and when i shoot, i want it so that he can release just in time, whether it goes in or not. kind of like the fisher's 0.4 sec shot moment.

like if i had 1 second left on the shot clock, i don't want to go for the shot only to have the cpu shoot for me when time has expired! yeah i know the chance of the shot going in is virtually zero but still, if it's in the GAME it SHOULD be in the game!
