yeah its real gay that the guy shoots at the top of his jumper since that's how a person is supposed to shoot...

There is no release or timing involved in shooting this time around. You can hold the shoot button all you want and the player animation will shoot at the peak of his jump or whatever position the player is in in making the shot (like fadeaways). So its like automatic.
Of course being open and player ratings comes into play. You won't make shots when you're contested.
It feels weird if you got used to controlling the release--I mean the whole lot of us players were....However, there was an option in previous NBA Live's where you can toggle between human shot control and AI shot control. I guess EA just eliminated that option all together.
