Talk about NBA Live 08 here.

All the articles about Live 08 seem positive. But so did Live 07's. I wont be convinced until I read peoples reactions.

well remember, 07's previews were assuming that the glitches would be touched up, too bad they never were.
Personally, Im getting the PC version the day of the release. If there is a demo of the 360 version before the release date and I enjoy it, then I will get the 360 version on the same day. If there is no demo, I'm waiting on impressions and reviews and Ill just pick it up for 20 bucks on ebay later in the year.

You know I'm kinda bored of this flashy high flying thing! You canot play a normal gam because dwayne wade will dunk on 4 people! that is just disappointing! for me the most important thing is the gameplay. From what I've read, it seems like EA realised that people need a realistic, simulation type of bball game instead of the flashy crap! I mean there has to be some really good moves and stuff but Live 07 showed signs of NBA STREET!
thing is ball physics really suck. when you hit a jumper, there's still only 1 way the ball can go in! it never hits the rim and rattles in or something like this! dribble animations have been improved but still far from good. Signature jumpshots are missing as well!
Last but not least: the bodymodels just suck! Centers look like giant babies due to their huge heads! T-Mac looks fat as always! (that has been a problem for a while now)

I agree about the body models.. Everybody looks buffed.. The body models in the current gen looks more realistic..

Like every year, i bet 20 bucks that they'll change something that worked well in live 07
Few examples :
- Rebounding worked well in 2005, but inexplicably it was in a mess in 06 and even worst in 07.
- fast breaks were good in 2004, but were impossible in 2005 (players stopped when received the ball)
...On and on....
When they announce that they are working on collision, omg what they are wanna do ??? there are already way two much collision in the game, they should decrease them, no need to add new one or rewamp their system !

Personally, I don't think there's too many collisions, or at least, they don't look or feel like actual physical contacts at all.
The more I think about it, the more I wish EA could implement for almost any moves what needs to be done for jump shots: having to hold and release the button. After all these years of Live, it'd certainly feel strange at first, but I'd really like to use the same principle for layups, passes, and dunks.
You would be able to control the strength of your pass, the moment that you release your fingerroll...I dunno, it could much more intuitive to control the player's offensive moves that way.
Just a random thought...

Yesterday, I thought about something... What do guys think about adding "Playoff experience" as an attribute to all players? we all know how some superstars and all-star players choke during playoff games. It might really separate the real superstar from the wannabes.

I think adding "Playoff experience" would be cool especially in the Dynasty mode. But I think the attribute should be given to every player because some guys who aren't exactly stars have a lot of Playoff experience like Derek Fisher, Robert Horry, and etc. I think the experince attribute can also have some effect on the player's clutch rating to at least a certain extent.
Also, I hope when they implement 5 on 5 basketball, players who average a 70 rating won't play like their rating is 90. I want to see the stars be stars, the X-factor be the X-factor, and the 12th man be the 12th man. I fear in 5 on 5 basketball that everybody on the CPU team will play like stars.

Not a bad idea but the Clutch rating already controls that aspect of the game, to a certain extent.

How would you guys like to see somthing like mental ratings?
Somthings like tempre, conssistancy, decision making?
Fri May 18, 2007 10:23 pm
As long as they were put to good use, I'm all for ratings and attributes that allow for deeper player logic and realism.

Mr. Andrew, do you know if they are going to implement the player attributes from the Xbox (the ones we saw last year) into the PC version?

No, you can't have negatives and that's what Isiah Thomas' decision rating would be in.

Not yet, not much info has been released yet and unfortunately the people I'm in contact with can't really release much yet. I intend to do another Q&A this year where I'll of course try to get more info but for the moment I don't know anything about that.
However, if I had to guess I'd say no since it's likely the PC version will remain a port of the Current Gen version.

No offense to the SUM team. It was a great effort. But it also shows that even the greatest modders can overlook some simple mistakes like removing the dunk instructions and having the scores not seen well when you press escape. I know that a mod and nba live itself is different since the other is free. But I think it's the time to stop whining about the glitches of the present and future nba lives. Coz after downloading SUM, I feel sorry for them... Just look at the rating given to them for those who downloaded it. And I feel sorry to them because they decided to create the ultimate patch for NBA live with the most glitches. (peace patchers, I'm still using SUM because the the good changes overwhelm the bad)
Anyway, back to the topic. I always welcome the new ideas of EA in their nba live. I like the superstar moves, the new dunks, new moves etc. What I dislike, and I'm also speaking for everybody.. is the basics. Yes, it's definitely overlooked. Even when the official patch was installed there was minimal difference. Fatigue effect, the separation of dunk and layup buttons (which was the source of abuse for dunking, I have read that they will combine these moves again in one button in 08...), the unstoppable baseline dunks, unmakeable 3's in multiplayer mode... etc etc.. We hate it. I hope EA does something with that.
I wish that freethrow would be back to the old times. Freethrows in 07 are so easy to make that I just push the shoot button to make it more realistic. Maybe they can also add 2 options for freethrows. I like the idea of having fans distracting you at the background when you're the away team.
To those of you who want a very realistic NBA live... Don't count on it. Why? because it's not enjoyable to everyone. Face it, Some people love playing for 5 min per quarter than 12 mins. And what is the average age of those who play NBA live? maybe 13 and below that they would like monstrous dunks and fancy moves than realistic ones. I would rather request for a more balance game. I mean the balance of offense and defense, no unstoppable moves, no moves to abuse. [Maybe a seal that the game was tested and approved by at least 200 beta testers (more than a week playing) would not be hard to do. :p]
Another request is making NBA live on pc more keyboard friendly (so that we don't have to download ppjoy). I'm not bragging but keyboard users have much advantage over joystick users. The only finger I'm not using when I'm playing is my left thumb which as opposed to joystick users is the often used. But joystick users use like 6 fingers only. We keyboard users use 8 to 10 so we manouver the moves better. We can call plays while moving the ball. I don't know how joystick users do it using their left thumb only.

To be honest, that's still a pretty disrespectful statement given the effort that went into SUM and simply saying "no offense" doesn't really negate that. In any event, why should the quality of anyone's patch disqualify them from commenting on the game? Everyone is entitled their opinion on the game and to discuss that opinion here in the Forum. I'm sorry, but I feel you're way off base with this one.

I feel that way at times because I'm a fan of the T-Meter system and was sorry to see it go. However I have gotten use to the right analog method this year and it doesn't look like it's going anywhere.

Perhaps, but I still think realism should be the main aim. Ideally the sliders should be able to effectively govern whether the game is geared towards emulating real life or is more of an up-tempo, less realistic game or (if people wish) a flat-out arcade-style basketball game.

I don't really see how only using the thumb places joystick players at a disadvantage at all; I certainly don't feel disadvantaged. To execute a move you just move your thumb in the appropriate direction or if it requires a circle/half-circle on the stick in one smooth motion; it really isn't difficult at all. I have to say your analysis of the situation is somewhat perplexing to say the least.

More like retarded... but Andrew is too nice to say that.

EA should not just limit users with 4 or 5 cam modes only for the 08.
My only hope for pc version is a custom camera mode where users can freely move & rotate their cam preference in x, y, and z spaces (like the one in NFL Fever 2004, old xbox game by M$)
Also, would b great for cut-scenes to have random cam angles, it could reduce repetitiveness.

I'd like technical fouls.. Coaches could be mad at some calls and go arguing..

Not going to happen. The NBA won't allow them to include unsportsmanlike technicals, period. Unless the NBA changes its stance, EA cannot implement technicals other than defensive three second violations, techs that are assessed when timeout is called when a team has no timeouts remaining, and the tech that is assessed when a player picks up his sixth foul and all possible substitutes are injured or fouled out.

It doesn't hurt to read patching documentation, dolt.
The reason for the low rating is because most of the time people download it and didn't even bother to read the instructions, errors happen, they get pissed quickly and rate the way they feel at the time. I may sound condescending but I think it's true most of the time, just look at the threads that ask for help in the Live 07 section of the forums.
In case you haven't noticed SUM also has a version number, because it's not perfect and still subject to future updates and corrections. Even big companies like Microsoft release patches for Windows for its crappiness. If a big, well-funded company of programmers make mistakes, what more of patchers that only do it on their spare time and have no financial incentive at all.
Instead of feeling sorry for them for creating
"the ultimate patch for NBA live with the most glitches" and ragging them for their efforts why don't you try offering something constructive and helping them. It's not like the patchers are from EA and will keep ignoring your opinion on improving the game repeatedly. They're just an e-mail away and would likely respond and act given the free time they might have.
Eat shite and die.
Now I remember why I don't post in Live Sections, it's like encountering retardation in replay, over and over and over...
