The Button Smashing Duel

Postby LukeJGo on Tue Feb 20, 2007 8:12 pm

Watching Basketball all of my life, I've come to enjoy the power and dominance of players like Lebron and Shaq. But I would like to see a duel between players. For Example: When a player decides to drive the lane, he will have to battle the opposition waiting to challenge the shot, dunk, or lay-up by pressing the shoot button repeatedly as fast as possible. It's a little bit of old school but can work well with this game. I mean How many times have we seen Lebron or Kobe shoot with a body coming down on them and still seem to make the shot? With the Button-Smashing Duel, The player can determine the outcome of these collisions. This way, if a player is down by 2 points with 6 seconds left, he can drive for a lay-up and win the button-smashing duel for a three point opportunity, or vice-versa. Count It! And One!! Or Get that $**t Outta here!!! Not in My house... I think it'd be fun to play against a friend and have this battle going on inside the paint.. What do You think??

um no. button mashing takes no skill. it should not be allowed in any basketball games. unfortunately, it has found a way into 2k7.

EDIT: the only time it was cool was in NBA Jam

Second. The whole point of basketball games giving us more and more control over the things players do is to allow moves to be performed with precision and on cue. Button mashing works in other games like THQ's WWE series but it's a bit too arcadeish for games like Live and 2K.

I do think we need to have more control over making a strong drive to the basket though. Holding the button for a certain length of time would be a preferable option in my opinion, with the outcome based on the player's abilities, physical strength and weight, as well as how long the button is held down. There'd be a risk/reward factor involved since such drives would increase the risk of being called for the offensive foul or sustaining an injury in a hard collision. The length of time the dunk/layup button is pressed could also be a factor in negative outcomes as well as determining the likelihood of a successful shot.
