The pc ver. doesn't seem to record all the assists. I will feed a big in the post, back em down n score but when I check the stats the pg isn't given an assist. What up w/that? Or is it just me...

Maybe get the shot off faster? I know a pass leading to a direct shot, like an alley-oop would get the assist for sure, but maybe you took too long in the post.

But that's not how it works in the real world. An assist is always awarded to the player who passed the ball to you, regardless of how long it took for the ball to go in the hoop. I'm a big stats guy and this is irking me to no end.

not exactly, it's awarded to players who make passes that lead DIRECTLY to a basket, but in the game I'd say that you have 4 seconds or so for it to count as an assist

Not true. For example, if a player passes to his teammate in the backcourt and then they take it all the way to the basket and score, it would be a very generous statistician who awarded an assist. It does vary a little and there's the eternal debate about star players getting more lenience so they can rack up bigger numbers but traditionally speaking an assist is supposed to lead directly to a basket, though again there is some leeway in that. I've never actually timed it in NBA Live so I'm not sure the exact leeway it gives but it's usually about right in my opinion.

There's no such thing as a 4 second rule. Live 08 is much much more stingy w/the assists. Again, if I dump it down to my big and his post move takes some time I don't seem to get an assist for that. Just saying.

Maybe it is slightly different to previous games but the official ruling on assists is that they come on passes that lead directly to a basket, so if the recipient over dribbles before attempting the shot it's not counted as an assist. Again, a player can't pass to a teammate in the backcourt, have the teammate dribble the length of the court and score and be credited with an assist. There's leeway, but not that much.
