What specifically don't you understand about the guide?

Depending on how interested you are in it or how detailed an explanation you want, you might want to search the Internet for more articles on the NBA salary cap but very basically teams have a limit on how much they can spend on player salaries, called the salary cap. Teams are allowed to exceed the cap under certain circumstances but there are penalties and restrictions.

If you don't have any cap space, you basically need to make sure that when you trade a player for another, their salaries have to be pretty much identical. An ideal example would be a player with a $5 million contract for another player with a $5 million but some leeway is given, so for example you could trade a player with a $5.2 million contract for a player with a $4.8 million contract. To make it easier for you, the salaries you're trading need to be as close as possible to the salaries you're receiving.

Section 3
Understanding the salary cap

-The salary cap is really quite simple when in the trading context. The salaries traded must be within 25% of each other. However, if a team is 10 million under the cap any money needed from that can count into this 25% difference. For example:
---Team A -$11.2 mil--------------------------Team B +$20 mil------
---Player One, 15.5 Million<===for====> Player Two, 4.3 Million------

However the team owning Player two is 20 million under the salary cap, so 11.2 million of that is factored into the deal.

At the end of the day

----Team A $0---------------------------------------Team B +$8.8 mil
----Player Two, 4.3 Million--------------------------Player One 15.5 Million

+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-

Key Point - The salary cap is the biggest inhibitor of many trades, beware.

i got this from 2020's Trading Guide. why is the salaries of tho players are very far from each other? any suggestions on how can i trade a 70-80 player for an all star one?

Because not every player in the league is signed to the same contract. The best players tend to be signed to bigger contracts, though there also some lesser players who have big contracts as well. That information is taken from real life, where the stars are the ones that make the big money and there are some players who are overpaid.

As I said, you need to make sure the salaries you're trading are as close to equal as possible to the salaries you're receiving for a trade to work under the salary cap each time.

As for trading a player rated 70-80 for a much better one...well, you can't, at least not straight up. The CPU is not going to accept a trade that doesn't give it equal "value" in return. You need to make sure that the total overall ratings of the players you're trading are equal (or even slightly higher) than the total overall ratings of the players the CPU will be sending you in a deal. For example, you can't trade a player rated 80 overall for a player 90 overall but you might be able to make the deal work if you trade one player who's 85 overall and 75 overall (total 160) for two players, one of whom is 90 overall and the other 70 overall or less (no more than 160).

And of course, you need to make sure that that the salaries match up too.

Looking at the calendar behind the PDA, it doesn't look like it would be an embarrassing record. Lots of W's there.

that was 40-2. i lost to Minnesota(20-16) and to Miami(11-13). the score was too low because it was just a 2min quarter for i wasn't that serious, i just stimulated that to receive an email regarding the trade i proposed. :D

anyways, could u comment on this one:

i traded Perkins+Rondo+2nd round pick for Chris Paul.(at first it was just Perk and Rondo for CP3 but i wasnt able to save my game, and when i repeat my trade proposal, they kept on disappointing me that is why i added my 2nd round pick and that worked)
i dont have a good center so im trying to bring Perk back.

i made a backup on my dynasty before this trade was finalized so it is ok if this was a bad move. i can undo it. thanks!

Shame you couldn't get the first deal to go through and not have to give up the pick but that's definitely how you trade up for a high rated player. (Y)
