More motion on the attack

Sun Feb 07, 2010 12:50 am

How the hell do you make your players move around the court?

Players of the computer are constantly on the run when attacking, even across, from one side to the other. In the end, someone manages to lose his man, the PG gets him the ball and there's an open shot. My players do not move at all, they are just standing, even if the point guard is moving towards them. If I don't press a quick play button, they don't even go inside the 3-point line, they are just standing outside.

I guess quick plays are the keys but no one knows what the hell they do. It's so typicaly EA, not caring about customers at all. They put dozens of plays into the game without explaining any of them. I know the basic plays, like isolation, pick and roll or post up but I can't only make these plays all the time. Furthermore, none of them makes the players move more.

I always thought there was some generic movement around the court, provided you aren't just standing around dribbling the ball. I know even the older Lives had that.

Live 06 had a feature on Rookie mode that showed the play diagrams on the court, but it wasn't included in Live 07/08. The best advice I can give is to call a play, and stand either at the top of the key or at one of the wings and look for some movement. Usually the guy who you are supposed to pass to shows an animation like he is waiting for you to pass it or something. Been a while since I played, so I can't recall precisely.

I posted this before but try 50 game speed and all players -40 quickness and the players will call more plays. It doesnt even effect the game speed or dribbling. It just smooths out the animations a little more and forces the cpu to run plays. May take a while but worth it. Not perfect but best results. i may do a roster for it.

this might be because they are playing Zone Defense by default...not sure how to fix the default part by whenever i play...

the first time i go on D i just hit the quick play for half court man-to-man

and i'm set the rest of the game....players move around....passes are intercept...etc

playing around with the settings might help also

Thanks for your help guys, but I think I'm done with this game, it's just hopeless. I'm standing at the top of the key, calling the quick plays one after the other and the only movement my players are doing is starting to run towards the paint from the 3-point line then suddenly turning back but that's not enough to lose a marker. It's beyond me what what the mysterious play could be that brings the computer's players into motion (and especially, makes them crossing the paint). Basically, these are the only ways I can score:

-penetration, dunk/lay-up
-post up, backing down, dunk/lay-up
-post up, wait for the double, pass to the open man on the outside
-pick and roll, pass, dunk/lay-up
-pick and roll, shooting from behind the screen
-fast break
-2nd chance

None of them involves motion, all of them are 1 or 2 men plays. This is just not baskeball, it's completely unrealistic.

Haha I feel youre frustration with this game. Nba Live 2005 or 06 would be a better suggestion in my opinion. Have you tried any sliders or any of the gameplay patches. And I hope youre not using a pirated version. Bcuz its not often you see an nba live 08 pc up 4 sale now a days. :)

I'd also recommend 2005 and 06 over 07 and 08, if you're unable to play a more up to date title.

I only bought this game because it was on sale for an excellent price. :) And because I think it's the newest version my computer is able to run properly. The other version I have is 2005 (haven't played for ages) so I thought a newer one must be better but now I see how wrong I was.

By the way, it's a great thing that every version is up-to-date thanks to the brilliant roster updates.

I would be eager to buy 2k10 instead of some stupid EA stuff but my video card doesn't support the technology it is built on.
