Can't re-sign my own player

Thu May 22, 2008 2:19 am

I've done some looking around the internet and the forum and couldn't find a topic about this...

I'm having a problem with re-signing my own free agents. Lou Williams is a free agent on my team and I want to re-sign him, but the game isn't letting me go over the cap to re-sign him. Anyone know why?

NBA Live 08 offers a few different contract options when you sign/re-sign players which you can toggle in the Sign Players menu, which will in turn display the players who can be signed to a particular contract type (some players will be eligible for more than one option). I'd suggest doing that to ensure that all salary cap rules are being taken into account when you're making your offer.

Beyond that, it's possible that the game is giving you the wrong message in your PDA. It's never officially been confirmed but back in NBA Live 06, it wasn't uncommon to get a notice about being over the salary cap or not having room on your roster when that definitely wasn't the case, leading to the theory that the player was just turning down the offer and the wrong reply was being generated. It's possible that's still the case in NBA Live 08.

Lou liked being on my team, so I'm not sure why he wouldn't want to re-sign. This game seems to be deeply flawed.

I'm not sure how they decide they're advanced enough technologically to implement the MLE, yet they can't get the simple concept of being allowed to re-sign your own players and going over the cap.

That aspect of free agency is in the game and always has been since Franchise Mode in NBA Live 2000. However, it appears that sometimes there's a glitch; either the game's not recognising that you're re-signing your own player or the player is rejecting the contract offer and the wrong notice is being generated. Either way it's a problem with the game but the ability to go over the cap when you re-sign your own players is a feature of Dynasty Mode.
