Great job PM. Nice to have you over here at NLSC. Look forward to your sliders, playbooks, and gameplay adjustments. One question though: Would you be updating playbooks as the season goes along? I notice that Playbooks are done early in the season and seems to be forgotten after trades and signings, which effects playcalling and player options. Example: in 07 the 76ers playbook was PG heavy, beacuse of Allen Iverson, then he was traded to Denver and the 76ers playbook was same. But the younger AI was now the go to man. Just need a updating as trades go on. Thanks alot.

Hey Andrew, can you make this a sticky?

Thanks guys, dkemp

For Pheniox you should have the Nash to Stoudemire Pick and Role, probably Pick N Roll C, because this is their most frequent play they use. I'll be using your playbooks when I get the game. :)

I'll try to keep everything updated this year but I usually work on other games aswell so I forget to update playbooks in Live.

It's actually pretty easy though if a trade does happen with a star player you just look for a play in the playbooks that best fits his skills or playing style or you can swap his plays to the teamn he was traded to and insert it in their playbook.

I'm definetly going to get Amare and Nash running the pick and roll. I'll also add a 3-Pt play and something to get Marion involved.

I wish EA would've allowed us to have more plays assigned to the CPU's offense because they do good job of running the plays if set up properly in their playbooks.

I'm still trying to figure out a way to program the defense. Occasionally they will runa 2-3 zone but I haven't been able to get them to trap or press yet. That's what I loved about Live 06 the CPU would switch up the defense within games once you assigned them different plays.

Nice stuff Playmaker (y) Keep it up..

Stickied

By the way, this should work on PS3 as well, so you can call it Next Gen instead.

I'll be updating about 8-10 more teams today. If anyone has any suggestions on a specific play to assign any team let me know I can always use some help.

I think Boston has been my favorite team to play against so far because Allen and Pierce really takes advantage of their assigned plays. KG had a double/double by halftime vs me in one game.

I also noticed that under stratgey options if you tell your team to Box Out more they do a better job on the defensive boards. I actually think this year that the team strategy sliders for Fast Break's and Rebounding works better than in years past.

Thanx. . I'll try your sliders

Awesome work playmaker!!

how about the warriors?? maybe have 2 plays set up for "3pt" plays and maybe a pick and fade or pick and pop????

Wed Oct 03, 2007 1:55 pm

Is it possible for isolations? Because when you do the Lakers that should be a set play for Kobe.

I only assigned one 3-Pt play for Jackson, Barnes or Pietrus who ever is on the floor at SF.

I did get Monte Ellis involved on a pick n fade play with Davis and I assigned a post up play for Baron aswell since he's one of the few PG's in the NBA that will post up during a game.

I really wish EA would've allowed more plays to assign for the CPU because there some stuff I couldn't use for the Warriors that would have been great for their run and gun style.

If you can can adjust to the game play speed at 35 and Press Cam at 10-Height without any Zoom it seems to allow the game to play more fluid and you can see the entire court. I'm guessing because the camera is pulled back it seems to help with everything else moving on the court. You can really see the plays being run by the CPU on this setting with the playbooks setup.

Yeah,once i get live 08,i'll try your sliders,looks great!

Updated quite a few more teams and posted projected lineups playbooks are based off of right now.

Playmakers, you were right about that zoom things. . .Game plays a lot better

Fri Oct 05, 2007 11:12 am

I reckon Iverson should have a catch and shoot or isolation for Denver.

The one thing in this game you'll notice for PG's like Iverson is that they will get their shots off jumpers and drives to the basket already.

One of the reason's why I didn't assign ISO for AI is because I tried to take into account the bench players that also play specific position's as backups. If Iverson is out the game then Chucky Atkins or Anthony Carter will assume PG duties and you'll see them running ISO which is not realistic to me.

Some of the plays I'm assigning takes into consideration the backups to the starters and if the plays assigned is logical for the backup player.

Take for example Dallas if Jerry Stackhouse is replacing either Josh Howard or Jet Terry both of those plays is something that Dallas would call for Stack aswell.

I hope that isn't too confusing.

I'm going to post specific ratings that can be made to the players aswell to enhance the game a little more.

EA included a nice ratings editor this year so I don't have to send out 100's of emails with a roster file this time. I'll just the ratings for those who want to take the game a little deeper and post the figures each rating should be adjusted by and the rating editor will allow you guy's to do it quick and easy.

These are the 5 ratings that I've started editing which has helped the game play even more.

1) Go To Guy Ratings-This was increased for the top 2-3 scorer's on each team. It allows the Ai to have clear understanding of who the big dog's are each team.

For Example Boston KG is assigned a 99 and both Allen and Pierce are at 90.

2) Lower all non scoring PG's shooting mentality down to 1 and leave guy's like Baron Davis, Tony Parker and Allen Iverson at their default ratings. That will clearly distinguish the difference in play between scoring PG's and guy's that you want just running giving up the rock.

3). Increase the Defensive Rebounding IQ for all PF's and C's. This allows more guy's to better judge where the ball is coming off the rim at and reduces rebounds hitting the floor. Most likley a +20 increase for all players.

4).Increase all players Off The Ball Awareness. I haven't set a max number on this yet but it'll most likley be around a +20 for all players. What this does it gets more guy's thinking on the floor when the ball isn't in their hands. This worked great in Live 07 as more guy's would sneak back door or come off screens quicker and faster. It also helped the BIG's in setting picks away from the ball last year.

5) Adjust shooting tendencies based off of work that was done by a psoter called Jdubbs last year. He provided a great deal of information that basically nailed the shooting tendencies of players dead on. This means a guy like Dirk won't past up as many 3-PT shots if he has a good look. This doen't impact any of the players shooting ratings already assigned. It only impacts the area's on the court they are most likely to shoot from in a game.

Playmakers, do you mind posting your player changes with the point increase or decrease as you go along or as a post when you are all done? Thanks a ton for all your hard work. You guys make it easier for us, to just plug in you guys work and play a good competitive game. Thanks again.

I'll provide the numbers so that anyone interested can just plug them in for the 5 ratings I'm tweaking. I should be done in the next 3 days with the ratings.

I definetly encourage people to tinker with the ratings because you can basically get the players to react the way you want them to through modified ratings.
