Second. The whole point of basketball games giving us more and more control over the things players do is to allow moves to be performed with precision and on cue. Button mashing works in other games like THQ's WWE series but it's a bit too arcadeish for games like Live and 2K.
I do think we need to have more control over making a strong drive to the basket though. Holding the button for a certain length of time would be a preferable option in my opinion, with the outcome based on the player's abilities, physical strength and weight, as well as how long the button is held down. There'd be a risk/reward factor involved since such drives would increase the risk of being called for the offensive foul or sustaining an injury in a hard collision. The length of time the dunk/layup button is pressed could also be a factor in negative outcomes as well as determining the likelihood of a successful shot.
