v2.0 released...

Talk about NBA Live 08 here.

v2.0 released...

Postby Andrew on Tue Oct 14, 2008 10:16 am

Welcome to the official support thread for v2.0 of the NLSC current roster update for NBA Live 08!

Andrew wrote:With a new season, lots of new players and a fixed installation routine, I've decided to change the version numbering for the NBA Live 08 roster updates and begin by jumping up to v2.0. You can download the new roster here.

Key features of v2.0:
- 2008/2009 Season Rosters accurate as of October 12th, 2008
- Player ratings updated for more realistic performance
- Primacy ratings updated for better shot distribution
- Player positions and data updated/corrected
- Cyberfaces and portraits for missing players
- East/West All-Stars Updated for All-Star Weekend 2008
- Rookie/Sophomore teams Updated for All-Star Weekend 2008
- Maek's Fatigue Fix
- Player Accessories Updated
- Contract & Salary Info Updated
- Seattle Supersonics changed to Oklahoma City Thunder
- Logos, courts and jerseys updated for the 2008/2009 season
- Fixed Installation Routine

See below for additional release notes regarding this pre-season update. NBA Live 07 players, be advised I'm currently in the process of converting the rosters for use with 07. That update will likely be out in a few days once I've fixed up a few things and made sure it's crash-free.

Additional Release Notes
  • As always, I'd like to stress that I'm open to suggestions for the rosters but if you do wish to give me feedback in that regard, please note that I only invite constructive criticism. If you think I've got some ratings wrong, there's no need to be insulting or come at me with an attitude; just let me know. Note however that you'll need to provide some evidence of why you think a rating should be changed; I won't increase or decrease anyone's ratings without reason just because I'm asked.

Additionally, I'd like to once again state that overall ratings are highly overrated and I do not focus on them, thus I do not boost or lower the individual ratings just to make the overalls look "better". If an overall rating appears to be "wrong", take a look at the individual ratings as a player might be overrated or underrated in a certain category. Feel free to bring that to my attention but my response to requests to make certain players certain overall ratings remains the same: No.
  • On the subject of ratings, please note that when it comes to the rookies, we haven't seen them play a single regular season game yet so there's still a bit of guesswork there. I have read the scouting reports and taken college/foreign league stats into account but you never know who will surprise us and who might flop, so I'd be very surprised if I hit the nail on the head with all the rookies ratings right out of the gate. They'll be updated as the season progresses.
  • Still on the subject of rookies and some other players that have been added...yes, some of them don't have portraits and/or are using generic faces. I don't make face or portrait updates so I must rely on the generous contribution of the patchmakers in the community. I have a lot of faces thus far and I believe all the major new players this year have faces already, but some are still using the generic faces. You can replace those faces if you download an update seperately and of course, I'll update the rosters with correct faces as they're made available to me.
  • NBA Live does not allow more than 15 players on a roster, so in some cases I've had to leave players in the Free Agents pool. This is something I just have to juggle and when teams do cut their rosters down to 15 for opening night, I'll be sure to update the rosters accordingly. As for who I've left in the free agent pool, right now I've had to make educated guesses as to the players most likely to stick around. If you disagree, the players are there so you can update that yourself and of course, I'll make those updates in future updates depending on what happens in the real NBA.
  • Some jersey numbers are probably wrong, I have combed through the rosters a couple of times but with the way some jersey numbers change through the offseason (if for no other reason that my sources were originally incorrect), it's likely a couple are incorrect. Feel free to post those corrections, they're easy enough to fix once they've been pointed out.
  • The rosters are accurate as of October 12th, 2008. If a transaction occurs after that point, then obviously it can't be included. Please check the date before reporting a missing transaction.
  • Some noteworthy players are on the inactive list in these rosters. Such players are expected to miss significant time, which is why I've placed them there. When the season begins I'll do the usual "Uninjured" version of the rosters.

These rosters have a fixed installation routine that should eliminate the problem of the art being installed to the wrong folder. I've tested it and it worked without any problems, if you do run into any issues however please let me know.
  • A huge thanks to everyone who's contributed art for the new version of the rosters; please keep it coming! Note that the added art makes the roster the largest NLSC update to date, it's now a 38 MB download. I will certainly consider releasing a complete update and smaller "updated files only" patches so that you don't have to download the full patch each time.

I think that's about it! I hope you enjoy the patch, I know it's been a long time coming but unfortunately other matters have kept me busy through the offseason and with the flurry of transactions offseason updates are usually outdated by the time people get around to downloading them. Thanks to everyone who has been patient and supportive, I hope you enjoy this update and future NLSC updates. Again, feedback is as always welcome but keep it civil and constructive.

Alright, you've listened to me long enough. Go download the new update!

I haven't updated any national teams rosters except Team USA. The Thunder's away jerseys are definitely included so the Sonics jerseys shouldn't show up anymore. I'll doublecheck that but that shouldn't happen.

I have downloaded it and played three games. Works pretty well so far, no crashes. By the way, the installation was awesome, very easy. Just some minor problems, the head of the Memphis coach is broken, it's all black and blue. A glitch in Michael Jordan's fadeaway shot, I dunno if it has something to do with the update, it only happened once in the whole game though. And as mentioned above the national teams are not yet updated. Aside from those things, everything seems fine.

I've checked and that issue with Russell Westbrook definitely doesn't occur for me. I'd suggest it's a result of another patch you have installed. I'm not sure what you mean about the New Orleans jerseys, they look fine to me. In any case, I didn't make any of the art updates that come with the patch.

The NLSC roster does not update signature shots or Go To Moves so that has nothing to do with me. I'd suggest you have a custom aiact.viv file from another update (possibly Albys'), I can't guarantee that the NLSC rosters will be 100% compatible with every other update out there.

They shouldn't be, but I'll double check. I may have done something accidentally in coaches.dbf that's caused that error but I was sure it was working. Thanks for the heads up.

Andrew, great work as usual, very thorough :D One of the things I appreciate the most about your work is updating all the salaries and contracts. That's a big plus for dynasty players (Y)

Regarding the problems people have been reporting, the CFs for the coaches of the bucks and Grizz also didn't work for me.

Even though I understand you only use the CFs from the patchers, Darrel Arthur looks like he has a spotlight on his head. Did anyone else have this problem? Same thing happens with Mario Chalmers, btw.

Someone else mentioned the russel westbrook arm problem, so here's a screen shot:

Image
His right arm looks like it has the same skin tone as his face, but his fore arm and entire left arm have a different colour.

Regarding injuries and the inactive list, here are a couple of things I noticed:
- I've read that both robert swift and gilbert arenas are going to miss playing time in the begining of the season due to injuries so they should probably be placed in the inactive list, if players like monta elis and jamal magloire are there as well.
- is there a reason for rudy fernandez to be in the inactive list? Was it just a mix up with sergio rodriguez or something?

Player positions
- Can Leinas Kleiza really play the 2? I mean, I really like him, but he too big/strong/slow to be a SG. If I recall correctly Denver used iverson at the 2 and someone else at point when they didnt start jr smith there.

Player Ratings
- (I believe Ralmon Sessions 3PT value should be higher. Since being recalled from D-league, he shot .429 from downtown in 17 games. I wasn't able to find out on NBA.com how many shots he took but there was a stint of about ten games where he played 30 min/game which would add reliability to the numbers. What's more, I was watching their preseason game today and Tim Legler praised him as being a good offensive weapon, albeit a weak defensive player.) I stand corrected. On ESPN.com I found out that he only shot 7 threes while launching a total of 117 shots
- Sam cassel's off. awareness seems waaay overrated for a chucker who is past his prime. 85+ should, in my opinion, be granted only to players who can create their own shot or take the game over because of theur off. prowess neither of which cassel is capable of anymore. Last year in the playoffs all he would do was shoot 3 and, most of the time, miss them, totally killing boston's team game.
- Can Mike Conley really dunk? This is an honest question as I never get any Memphis games here in Brazil. Anyway, I got dunked on in a half court set by Conley and thought it was weird. His rating is 70, which looks high for someone his size but I have never watched him play irl.

Hope I was able to provide reasons behind my opinions. I mean, these are all things I can change by myself (aside from the coaches CFs), but maybe this is a way in which I can contribute to the community. I'll come back as soon as I get more games under my belt.

Once again, thanks for all the hard work, Andrew

Oversight. I've gone ahead and removed them ready for the next update before I forget again.

Not sure what's happening there, the rosters install an accurate jersey patch which overwrites the seataway.viv and seathome.viv files, so you should definitely see the correct jerseys when you load the rosters.

Ricardo wrote:Regarding the problems people have been reporting, the CFs for the coaches of the bucks and Grizz also didn't work for me.

I checked and it appears I made a typo in the database, sorry about that. Open up coaches.dbf and change Scott Skiles' PLAYERPKG and ID7 to SCSKILES (for some reason I'd entered it as SKSKILES, go figure) and change Marc Iavaroni's columns to MAIAVAR (I'd misspelled that one too).

Ricardo wrote:Even though I understand you only use the CFs from the patchers, Darrel Arthur looks like he has a spotlight on his head. Did anyone else have this problem? Same thing happens with Mario Chalmers, btw.

That's an issue with the faces, they're missing alphas. I'll have to grab some updated faces wherever possible.

Ricardo wrote:Someone else mentioned the russel westbrook arm problem, so here's a screen shot

Again, it's not an issue with the NLSC rosters as everything is fine at my end and all the necessary art is included in the update. I would suggest it's a conflict with another patch you have installed because it definitely works fine for me.

Well spotted, I'll have to fix that up.

They did indeed but Kleiza has started at shooting guard (or at least has been listed as the starting two guard) in the past. I might reconsider that one though, I was a little iffy about it.

Thanks for the feedback, it's certainly been noted. :) In regards to Conley, yes he can dunk. I'd suggest looking him on YouTube, he pulls off some amazing stuff given his size including a dunk from the free throw line. It's perhaps not surprising, his father was an Olympian in the triple jump and long jump. Coincidentally, Mike Conley Sr. appeared on the first "Super Slams of the NBA" tape during a segment on celebrity/"guest" dunkers and completed a rather impressive free throw line dunk of his own. That one might be on YouTube too.

Anyway, thanks for the feedback. :)

I'm not using any scoreboard patches, so the default one should be fine.

Hey Andrew, I'm wondering which section of NLSC are you allocating for our feedbacks for NLSC roster 06?

By the way, I've noticed there's a 3-days differential between the release for 08 and 07 NLSC roster. So, is the 06 version coming out on the 21st October to mark this trend? (I certainly hope so, and to coincide with NBA 2k9 release for PC)

Looking forward to NLSC roster v2.0 for 06. Thanks for all the hardwork. (Y) (Y) (Y)

I'll probably be using the NBA Live PC section since I closed the NBA Live 06 Roster Patch section some time ago.

I'm afraid the 06 update won't be out today; it's a longer process to convert to 06 than it is to convert 08 to 07 so the time between the 08 and 07 release is irrelevant to the release of the 06 patch. That said, it shouldn't be too long.

Seems I made a typo when I was fixing up his SPEECHID, sorry about that. If you want to fix that up, open players.dbf and locate the instance of Chris Paul on the Team USA roster (ID 3272) and change his SPEECHID to 1294. I've made that correction ready for the next version.
