Forcing a guy to retire? And other dynasty dbf Q's

Postby teddyboy09 on Sun Jul 27, 2008 8:20 pm

I just have to ask. Can I make it so a player of mine can retire after this season, or retire him already and just put him in my retired jerseys list in Dynasty?

I asked here because it may have something to do with dbf editing or something else...

Thanks!

EDIT: I also have another question.

Can I also make it so a player can play for like another year or so? Like say for example Shaq. I want the guy to not retire after this season or the next. Is it just a matter of changing his birthyear too?

And another Q. The free-agent pool has a limited number for Dynasty mode, right? Because if say, I have 130+ Free Agents, if I start a new Dynasty, Dynasty Mode doesn't take all those 130+ in. They remove, I think, the lower-rated ones or whatever. And (I don't remember if this happens but just in case it does), I think every year in Dynasty the FA pool always limits its FAs so they remove excess FAs every year (again, if I'm not mistaken).

Can we put these players back in, and if so, what are the specific steps? Because I tried to put Aaron Williams back in the FA pool (just for experimenting; he's the first guy on the players.dbf but he's not included in Dynasty anymore), and I don't know how to edit his target salary, because on the Sign Free Agents screen it says 0 dollars for 0 years (even though I put in values in the dbf for the cash he expects and the length of the contract), and the game would of course hang up and close if I try to sign him. I'm not going to try to put every FA in the Dynasty FA pool, though; just some that I would like. It's just hard to play Dynasty, think "Hey, I need this guy. He's got skills I need and he sucks at everything else so I know he's a cheap pick-up" and you find out he's not in the FA pool anymore, lol.

You can place him on the retired pool if you want him gone immediately. If you want him to retire at the year's end, the best method is probably to change his contract length so he has one year remaining and adjust his date of birth so that he's in his 40s. Be sure to make a backup before you make any changes in the dbf.

Oh, okay. Guess I'll just make Derek Fisher 40 now. lol. I just want to play out one season with him, and retire his jersey. It's tough balancing three good PGs on my team (my own player, D-Fish, and Farmar, lmao)

Thanks master Andrew!

I don't know this.
Nice question ted.
See I would like to master the dbf editing.

Thanks Andrew!

Anyway, I just decided to edit this topic rather than start a new one. If I have any other dbf questions I'll just post them here. Like Maek, I'd want to know more about dbf editing :D

Yes, you'd just need to change his date of birth so that he's younger. You can always change it back once you've advanced to the next season.

When you filled in his target salary, did you also fill in the CASH_YEAR field (current salary) as well?

Hm, I think CASH_YEAR had something in it already, so I just left it. Why, what was I supposed to do with it? :D

I'd suggest putting a value in there if you haven't already.

I keep forgetting if there was already a value in there, but yeah, I'll try it later when I get home. Thanks!
