NBA LIve 08 (XBOX 360) Online Play was a phantom

It's amazing that this feature still hasn't been released. Most game sites featured interviews with NBA Live Producers beating their chests about what a terrific game they had designed, and about how the online play feature was so terrific.

None of those sites have uttered a peep about why the feature was announced as released, but then turned out to have not been released.

Was this a phantom feature from day 1?

I suppose only time will tell as to whether it falls through or not; as I understand it the update has been released for FIFA so it seems like something EA Sports are intending to do. Posting the combined press release for NBA Live 08 and FIFA 08 was certainly a mistake though given there seems to be some issues they're trying to iron out with the NBA Live 08 update. The initial report suggested both updates were available back in November.
