PC Controller Problem

I have Saitek Gamepad, that works fine in the game, well, apart from the fact I have to pause the game just as an exhibition game starts and I have to configure a controller, but in the All-Star Mini Games (3-Point Shootout etc.), the controller just won't work Any ideas why? I must admit though, I like NBA Live 08 for the PC, very fun game.
