Jao's PS2 Impressions; New Video Mix; Full SS and GTM list

I just went and picked it up. My initial impressions are.....


It's a good version of 07. lol This is what we should have gotten last year.... and for those who are seeing it for 40 bucks, find the Target weekly flyer for this week and price match it, it was 30 dollars there.


TV tuner is plugged in and I am going to play a USA game cause well I want to. Video will come ASAP.


The first game I started was Celtics vs Cavs. It was good to see the Cavs court updated (still shitty but updated) and Ray Allen has a sig shot. Thats really all i know right now besides 256 jerseys, but better normal maps.

Thanks for the info, JaoSming. That's good news to hear. And thank God you are going to post a FIBA game. That is the thing I am most excited about. I hope the international player's faces don't suck ass... I am already aware that the international players are missing Player Portraits though (in all version I think) except for NBA player (Dirk, Parker, etc.).

goto moves look nothing like 360, they are naturally occuring FSS moves from 07 (not really a bad thing)

I found it interesting that Chris Paul among others have goto alleyoop passes, keeps things interesting for sure.

Lebron has a sig fadeaway but not a sig normal shot.

They changed the right analog stick on the defensive side of things. If you hold up (to get the player to contest a shot or keep hands up) and the offensive player shoots or shot fakes, the hands up turns into a blocking animation (auto block if you will) also if you hold down on it, the game will "auto guard" the ball handler if you are close to them. Its kinda like the left trigger in the 360 version.

the PG is a pussy, if you put pressure on him he will back off and pass. Good and bad, but id like to see a little more drive. But overall, the AI is a lot better (almost as good as pdubs....almost)

Cameras, Skybox (as seen in the videos), broadcast (kinda like 06's press box, it moves), Lower bowl (kinda centercourt like, but higher), the 1 baseline (i think mid) and a "On Court" camera as seen in the Wii videos.

They fixed the "off the backboard pass" for practice 1v1 and allstar games (in 07 if you tried it from the side it would just go out of bounds)

Menus are nice, I like the videos taking up the entire background.



As for the videos, they have no sound and arent the best of quality because I want to get them uploaded asap. Later Ill try and do a sig shot video and stuff which will be better quality.

None of them do anything that special honestly. I saw nothing out of the ordinary when I practiced with them. Also, I was trying Marion's teardrop from the xbox360 version. I never could pull it off. I have not tried Parker's teardrop. Don't expect more than like 6 or 7 sig shots. Duncan, Allen, Marion (really ugly..more ugly than it should be), Garnett, Brand, Carter, Dirk is all I found. Some the fadeaways (which you can pull off without all the stars) have some resemblance to a go-to-move, but it definitely seems like FSS automatic really.

wasup fam, glad to see ya ballin, for me i guess my questions is simple.

1. how is the game play movement, ( meaning dribbling, crossovers etc ) is it fluent, still lil laggy, or down right discusting lol.

2. wasup wit the widescreen supoort is it in the ps2 version?

3. fatigue, face color, skin color, lighting affects, i mean caus ehonestly, if this are in our community can handle the rest.

4. are legends still with us, i think i read some where since fiba was added they took them out, ( i hope not)!

Kobe, Iverson, Melo, no sig shots that I could see. In that full game, I was doing a sig fadeaway with Lebron, but I couldn't do it in practice mode. Anyway I finished a sig shot practice video and will post a link when it is done. I will be playing some games now and making a mix of the footage next. (hopefully with more sig shots)

storm's questions:
1. Better IMO, I actually like the way the game plays and feels. Freestyle is well, laggy i think, not as responsive, but still good enough not to bitch about.

2. Yes, progressive scan is in as well (upscanning to HD)

3. Fatigue has three options, Low, mid High effect (i need to double check that) I didnt see much in the way of user auto subs, but I think that is a slider at 0. Faces skin color are same ol same ol. and I love this default lighting. They changed the normal maps this year to something a bit more shiny and it really helps (take a look at Shaq's jersey in the sig practice video)

4. FIBA is in (see full game video above) and legends are still there. I dont see MJ, for shame, but I doubt he will be in any NBA games for a while now.

apparently they screwed up with the rookie ratings. Alando Tucker is 86 Daequan Cook is rated 85, Javaris Crittenton 81, etc. while Kevin Durant is 77.

I just got the PSTrey version. I played online and the bitch played as the Celtics. I took the Hornets. I was up on him and he made a come back with Ray Allen shooting 3s all day. at the end of the game, I had an open look with CP3 to win, but he missed. killed him in OT. sadly there's no fatigue online.

i know right, i mean ratings absolutely make or break the game.....


anyway, I just finished getting footage for a goto moves video. and well, I learned alot and we said we wanted these players to act like themselves right? we finally got it kinda.

There are two kinds of "goto" moves. Ones that a lot of players have which are pretty much FSS moves from last year done naturally. Then there are signature goto moves like Lebrons Fadeaway, Gilberts prohop shot, and countless player's post up fadeaways. Im going to grab something to eat then get to making this video.
