Atlanta Hawks: Soaring to a Title [3-0]

Thu Apr 04, 2013 8:30 am

So my older brother is going to college and he took the xbox with him, so I got NBA 2k13 on the computer and decided to start a new association that I could actually use. Without further ado....

Image

Roster:

Image
JEFF TEAGUE
An explosive PG who excels at getting to the rim.

Image
Lou Williams
An uber-athletic scoring combo guard who takes over late in games.

Image
Kyle Korver
The clutch sharpshooting 3 point specialist.

Image
J-SMOOVE
Insanely athletic combo forward with all star potential.

Image
Al Horford
The undeniable leader of the team who is one of the best post presences in the league.

(I am simulating to the offseason, although I did do some trade(s). :D)

NLSC:
If you would like to be in this draft class, post in this thread the following:

Atlanta Hawks: TRADES and Scouting Report.

BREAKING HAWKS TRADE NEWS!

Image

Image

Josh had requested a trade, albeit in a rude manner. He demanded that we send him to the Nets. We sent him to the Clippers because they offered us the best pieces. We also grabbed the magic first rounder for our first and second.

Rookie Scouting Report

Image

Ben Mclemore

An electric athlete. Can jump and run the floor with the best. Strong perimeter game. Has trouble creating plays for his teammates and jumpshots off the dribble. Has potential to be a great 2nd option. The only reason I wouldn't call him a 1st option is he is most comfortable on spot ups and catch and score situations. All-in-all, a great prospect with all-star potential.

Image

James Mcadoo

Has been somewhat disappointing in the college regular season, but the upside is just too big to ignore. Can finish great in traffic and has NBA athleticism. Great floor-stretching mid-range game for a power forward. Range has slowly progressed, meaning in 1-2 years whoever drafts him could have a crazy athletic stretch 4 who can attack from anywhere. Watch Mr. Mcadoo.

Image

Shabazz Muhammad

Shabazz Muhammad came into the college season as the #1 prospect. He will end it barely in the top 5. Still not a bad place to be. Muhammad has not been creating for himself at all, and scores more than 80% of his points off catch and shoots. Has an average vertical, and slightly above average speed. Must work on strength and shot creating if he wants to succeed at the highest level.

Image

Nerlens Noel

By far the best shot blocker in the draft class, and all around defender. Can immediately step in at a starting role and vastly improve a teams defense. May drop a bit because of torn ACL, but worth it in the long run. Crazy athleticism. Expect his name to be heard a lot in a couple of years.

Image

Anthony Bennett

Is possibly the most athletic player in this draft class. Has a great perimeter and inside game. Strength of a 4 and skills and speed of a 3. Bennett is a very unique prospect. If developed wrong could end up like Michael Beasley as a tweener with unrealized potential. If maximized could be a lot like Chris Bosh. Bennett has a lot of options and ways to develop his game, and is definitely worth a couple of looks.

Offseason, since I will never get an NLSCer..

Awards
MVP - LeBron James (26.5 pts, 9.9 rbs, 7.8 ast)
ROY - Damian Lillard (16.7 pts, 3.2 rbs, 6.7 ast)
SMOY - Jeremy Lin (6.2 pts, 3.4 rbs, 5.8 ast)'
DPOY - Dwight Howard (20.1 pts, 10.5 rbs, 0.6 ast)

Our pick!

The Atlanta Hawks had one lottery pick, from the magic. When the lottery was over, the Hawks officially had...

THE #1 PICK!

Staff Management

Image
Larry Drew was fired
and....
Image
Hired George Karl!

Qualifying offers and Team/Player options

Image
2yr team option is accepted on Eric Bledsoe's contract. 2.37 mil.

Image
As sad as it was, we did not extend Jeff Teague a qualifying offer. We had a vastly improving Devin Harris overtake him for 2nd string pg behind Bledsoe, making Teague an afterthought.

My Free Agents

Most of these guys were okay to walk because I want lots of cap room to make a splash in FA, although I wanted Devin Harris to stay. Devin requested a 20+ mil contract, one that I would not give him.

FA's who left the hawks
Image
Jeff Teague

Image
Devin Harris

Image
Kyle Korver

Image
Anthony Tolliver

Image
Ivan Johnson

Image
Matt barnes (acquired in clippers trade for bledsoe and jordan)

Image
Zaza Pachulia

Image
Deshawn stevenson

Image
Jannero Pargo

Image
Mike Scott

Image
Johan Petro

This left us with a grand total of five players.

Al Horford, Eric Bledsoe, Lou Williams, Deandre Jordan, and John Jenkins.

Doing pre-draft workouts and rest of offseason now. Hopefully another update later tonight! Also, for those of you dissapointed with the lack of story, the story will start once the season begins, so dont fret! :P

Pre-draft workouts.

Ben Mclemore:
Image

Crazy deep range, awesome athleticism, okay handles.
A

Anthony Bennett
Image

Great athleticism, not great 3pt but can knock em down, good offense everywhere on the court.
B+

Nerlens Noel
Image

Amazing athleticism, great rebounding and vertical. Offense is mainly dunking. Great shotblocking! Surprisingly, has a nice jumper. Great handles for a big man.
Could start over Deandre Jordan.
A+

CJ Mccollum
Image

Amazing scorer, best in the class by far. Would consider drafting him, but we already have Bledsoe and Williams at guard positions.
B

Shabazz Muhammad
Image

Love his all around game. Good scorer, dribbler, and passer. Can shoot the lights out with his jumpshot.
A-

Otto Porter
Image

Wow. Was bricking open shots that I expected him to make. Even missed a layup once. Weak handles, and couldnt ever grab boards. Overrated.
C

Image
Its that time.

1. Hawks: N. Noel
2. Jazz: C. Zeller
3. Suns: A. Bennett
4. Kings: I. Austin
5. Bobcats: M. Plumlee (RISER!)
6. Pacers: W. Cauley-stein (RISER!)
7. Hornets: D. Mcdermott (was projected at 30th, dang)
8. Celtics: M. Smart
9. Mavericks: O. Porter
10. Bucks: S. Muhammad
11. Cavs: A. Len (RISER!)
12. Magic: R. Gobert
13. Pistons: P. Young
14. Warriors: M. Carter-Williams
15. Knicks: J. Withey
16. Celtics: S. Adams
17. Rockets: T. Burke
18. Wizards: C. Mccollum
19. Mavs: G. Deng
20. Grizz: B. Mclemore (He slid so far. What a steal for the grizz.)
21. Raptors: Kelly Olynyk
22. Clippers: L. Brown
23. T'Wolves: J. Smith
24. Nuggets: N. Wolters
25. Spurs: T. Mbakwe
26. Lakers: R. McCallum
27. 76ers: V. Oladipo
28. Bulls: K. Caldwell-pope
29. Thunder: T. Hardaway
30. Heat: Archie Goodwin

(I'd like to note that Mcadoo slipped to the 43rd pick even though he was top 5. Glitch, or just wacked up 2k draft sim?)

FREE AGENCY!

Devin Harris resigned without me having to offer him a new contract, phew.

Signed

Image
JR Smith

Image
Ray Allen

Image
Terrence Williams

Image
Steve Novak.

Image
Elton Brand

Obviously we didn't make a huge splash in Free agency, but we got the pieces we needed. Now that we have a stable bench and strong starting lineup we are playoff contenders.

Starting lineup:

Image
Eric Bledsoe: An athletic beast who excels at getting near the paint. Should mesh well with our three point shooters.

Image
Lou Williams: A sharpshooting slasher who can crush any defense in the league, and is about as potent a scorer as they come.

Image
JR Smith: Another athletic monster who can get hot and drop 35 on any given night.

Image
Al Horford: The leader of this young hawks squad, Al Horford is an extremely skilled big man.

Image
Nerlens Noel: The shot blocking rookie out of Kentucky. Is a defensive beast who can jump through the roof.

And now: The beginning of a new season

He was excited to see how the team would perform with all these new pieces. We had a great offensive feel, and if Nerlens Noel lives up to expectations we could also be very good defensively. He smiled, and said to no one but himself
"be afraid NBA, be very afraid."

SEASON OPENER!

There you have it, the hawks win! I hope you guys liked the new recap style

I wonder is J.R. is too undersized for the SF position, might have to mess with rotation when taking bigger forwards or a game against the Knicks.

Nice trade for Bledsoe and Jordan, although Jordan is kind of expendable now isn't he? Still good depth in the front court.

I would have JR as your6th man, although unsure who could play SF for you.

Yeah, the thing is that JR is 6'6" and theres plenty of 6'6" SG/SF. Sometimes small ball works, sometimes it doesn't. Only time will tell for us :D

If I can trade Jordan and maybe a pick or two for a high quality small forward (i'm talking 80-85 overall who can shoot very well) then JR will go to 6th man and i'll move said SF to starting role. We will see.

What is Portland looking like in the C department? Batum for Jordan would work a treat for you.

Re: Atlanta Hawks: Soaring to a Title

Took Marks advice....

Trail Blazers trade:

Image
Nicholas Batum

Image
Elliot Williams

Image

Hawks trade:

Image
Terrence Williams

Image
DeAndre Jordan

Image
Ray Allen

'15 2nd round pick

This trade is bittersweet. Obviously, getting an awesome small forward is awesome, but losing T-Will and Rayray kind of sucks. Luckily, Elliot Williams can shoot threes nicely (hes at a B+ on threes) and its not like we don't already have athleticism with JR and Eric Bledsoe.

So my starting lineup is:

PG - Eric Bledsoe
SG - JR Smith
SF - Nic Batum
PF - Nerlens Noel
C - Al Horford
6th man - Lou Williams

I like this lineup because we can score with awesome defense, plus i'll never be without offense on the floor because of Lou williams on the bench.

I don't think so tbh. Ray is gonna retire this offseason anyway, and I didn't need 2 defensive rebounding big men because whoever got less minutes would get mad and start playing badly.

Love the trade (Y) YOu have some great shooting on the wings as well as length and athleticism and a great front court duo as well. Lou Will will be a great 6th man for you too.

Nerlens Noel just exploded. His final stat sheet was 28 pts (12-14 shooting), 14 rbs, 4 ast, 3 blk. What a dominant performance. He's crazy athletic not to mention he makes defense fun.

Nick Batum was just what I needed. An awesome shooter who can take it to the rack. His 14 pts were off 6-6 shooting, not to mention he had 6 rebounds and an assist.

J.R. Smith was his usual inefficient self, going 6-16, but in the fourth he scored 10 of his 14 to close the gap, so i'm not complaining.

Al Horford did his thing. 12 points on 6-11 shooting with 17 rebounds and 3 assists. It felt like every time a shot missed he got it this game.

Eric Bledsoe only scored 11 but had 12 assists, and 8 rebounds.

BENCH

First off, let me say that the Nick Batum trade that put Lou Williams on the bench was great. The bench of this team is what makes it work. When you have a bench lineup of

PG-Devin Harris
SG-Lou Williams
SF-John Jenkins
PF-Luke Babbit
C-Elton Brand

you can't really complain if your me. Elton Brand is awesome off the bench, plus Lou Williams and Devin Harris are awesome scorers.

Yeah, i'm really liking it. I didn't use trade finder either, I made that trade myself *pats self on back* haha. :D

I'm trying but when I try and screenshot in full screen it screws it up (i'm using an older OS) and I have yet to make it not look like crap when I screenshot in windowed mode. Will try and work on it though.

I use Fraps to capture videos and screenshots. Then you should create your own template, that should greatly improve this!
