LeBron James Wins MVP
LeBron was awarded his third MVP in his career, putting him closer and closer to the greatest legends to ever grace the hardwood.
"I think he's probably as committed as he's ever been in his career," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said this week, asked to summarize James' season. "And he's always been committed. ... We all respond to his energy on the court."
James averaged 27.1 points, 7.9 rebounds and 6.2 assists -- making him only the fourth player with those totals in at least two different seasons, according to STATS LLC, joining Oscar Robertson (five times), John Havlicek (twice) and Bird (twice). Add James' 53 percent shooting and 1.9 steals per game into the mix, and you've got an all-around effective player.Kyrie Irving Wins Rookie Of The Year
Kyrie Irving is the recipient of the Eddie Gottlieb Trophy as the 2011-12 Kia NBA Rookie of the Year, the NBA announced today. Irving totaled 592 points and received 117 first-place votes from a panel of 120 sportswriters and broadcasters throughout the United States and Canada. The top selection in the 2011 NBA Draft, Irving joins Oscar Robertson, Magic Johnson, Allen Iverson and, LeBron James as the only No. 1 overall draft picks to average at least 18.0 points and 5.0 assists. In addition, he is one of only six rookies in league history to average at least 18.0 points, 5.0 assists, and 1.0 steal while shooting at least .450 from the field, joining Johnson, Jordan, Alvan Adams, Grant Hill, and Tyreke Evans.Tyson Chandler wins Defensive Player Of The Year
The funny thing is, though, Chandler never thought he'd get the award this season.
He figured it would go to a "glamour" guy -- a player like LeBron James, Dwight Howard or Kevin Garnett. So when he first heard that he'd won the award, he said he was "ecstatic." To be considered the best defensive player in the league this year was just the ultimate for me," Chandler said. "As much as I thought about it while I was in the gym every single day training, it's kind of one of those things where that always goes to the glamorous guy. It's been that way my entire career. So to finally get this, it means the world." Ryan Anderson Wins Most Improved Player
Ryan Anderson of the Orlando Magic is the winner of the 2011-12 Kia NBA Most Improved Player Award, the NBA announced today. The annual award is presented to a player who has made a significant improvement from the previous season.
Anderson received 260 of a possible 605 points, including 33 first-place votes, from a panel of 121 sportswriters and broadcasters throughout the United States and Canada. Ersan Ilyasova of the Milwaukee Bucks (159 points, 21 first-place votes) and Nikola Pekovic of the Minnesota Timberwolves (104 points, 10 first-place votes) finished second and third, respectively. Players were awarded five points for each first-place vote, three points for each second-place vote and one point for each third place vote received.Miami Heat Win NBA Title, LeBron named finals MVP
The decision is final: LeBron James made the right call coming to Miami.
Finally an NBA champion, it's all worth it now.
James had 26 points, 11 rebounds and 13 assists, and got the kind of help that was worth leaving home for, leading the Heat in a 121-106 rout of the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday night to win the NBA Finals in five games.
